How many funerals have you attended?

I've just attended my second one and I'm 49.
How many have you attended and how old are you?

4 Grandparents, a parent in law, and a work colleague, so 6
I expect the number to go up drastically in the next ten years as a lot of my relatives are elderly

NoraLuka · 23/01/2026 06:07

I’m 43 and have quickly counted 16. Grandparents, great aunts and uncles, a cousin, friends’ parents, friends, and my own DM who died many years ago.

Every time I go to a funeral now I remember all the previous ones I’ve been to and take longer and longer to feel normal again afterwards.

autumn1610 · 23/01/2026 06:14

I think I’m on 6 - grandparents /older family and the worst one I was 18 and it was for my friend also 18 sticks with me a lot when people ask about funerals, I’m 38

@NoraLuka i agree and Ive never seen the cumulative effect described by anyone. After a friend died at 52 I went to the funeral that he planned himself, it was an absolute endurance test and i was quite unwell for a period after that.

Have just remembered another one I went to, that makes 13. Also far too long.

A bus to go to funerals?

I posted thus in the wrong section and asked for it to be revived.

However where I live it's quite common for the family to lay on a bus to take mourners from the church to the cemetery and then on to the tea.

Scoose · 23/01/2026 08:57

9 including my husbands I'm 44

elliejjtiny · 23/01/2026 09:01

Loads, but then I work in a church.

If it's just the ones I would have gone to anyway then
My grandparents x2
DH grandparents x4
my miscarried baby
my Dad
4 friends of parents/inlaws

I'm 43

Vinorosso74 · 23/01/2026 11:58

I'm 51, 11 in person and 1 online (I had Covid). Ages from a few days old to mid 90s.

PermanentTemporary · 23/01/2026 12:29

I went on a longish walk this morning and ended up counting properly… I’ve been to 20. I’m kind of assuming though that that is ‘high for England’ - I think of any Irishwoman my age probably doing about twice as many?

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 23/01/2026 13:37

I'm 58 and have been to about 25
DH is 63 and has been to 9

Forty85 · 23/01/2026 14:11

I can count 13, possibly forgotten a couple, all family except a friends baby. I'm 40.

jamandcustard · 23/01/2026 14:23

One. I’m 37.

My grandparents etc. all lived on the other side of the world when I was growing up so it wasn’t possible to attend funerals and such.

BebbanburgIsMine · 23/01/2026 15:58

22 that I can count, there may be others that I’ve forgotten

TigerRag · 23/01/2026 16:01
  1. I'm 36
TurboGirl2 · 23/01/2026 16:02

I am 39 and attended 5. 3 were grandparents, one was my mums old boss and i went as support and 1 was one of my best friends little sister who died at 20 from cancer .

ShiftySquirrel · 23/01/2026 16:26

Definitely 20, but I might have forgotten a few. I'm 42. There's also a couple I couldn't attend due to logistics.

Kim82 · 23/01/2026 16:32

I’m 43 and I’ve been to 10, 11th is on Tuesday. I’ve lost all four grandparents, both parents, an uncle, 2 aunties, my dad’s best friend who we knew from childhood and dh’s grandad
