“Dear Jonas: Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America."

This is why he’s justified in taking Greenland - apparently. How is this giant man-child in charge of the free world?

He's an utter lunatic. Petrifying.

shoopdoop · 19/01/2026 17:20

He'll be gone before long.

We live in hope! Much better he dies of natural causes than he be assassinated as that may turn him into a martyr for the right. He's no spring chicken after all. I think Melania might be persuaded to slip an untraceable poison into his coffee. What to do with the rest of his government, Vance et al, though?

Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a “right of ownership” anyway? There are no written documents, it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also. I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States.

The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland. Thank you! President DJT

Trump says he will '100%' follow through on threat to impose tariffs over Greenland demand

The US president says "no comment" when asked if he will use force to seize the island, as Greenland's PM says "we will not let ourselves be pressured".

After Greenland will come Canada. By which time Europe will have kicked his troops out and he’ll relocate them within Canada. Just a handful of countries kept up their military. We’re all so screwed.

Yes.

He wants to have the western hemisphere all for his very own. He thinks in terms of real estate, and what would look good on a map.

Americans (MAGA) are dreaming if they think he is doing this for their country. He is doing this for 'his' country that, once he has enough power, he would rename Trumpland. Crazy but this is how his mind works.

It all remind me of the deluded statements my uncle with a dementia diagnosis comes out with from time to time.
At what point does someone decide that he could be losing capacity and get a real Doctor to examine him (and not one of his stooges)? It's all so emperors new clothes that no one will admit it.

I think he absolutely has dementia! If you are interested, look up a guy called epistemiccrisis on Instagram. Also a woman called concussiontalks.slp.

They're both healthcare professionals with a particular interest in this field and their videos are fascinating.

What I want to know is why more Americans are not out on the streets demanding an end to this. And yes, I know that there have been protests, but I would expect this level of dysfunction - and this level of blatant unsuitability for public office - to have triggered a massive uprising by now. Where is the opposition?

We all knew that Trump was going to be a disaster. What I find incomprehensible is how little pushback there seems to be. Are people too fearful to fight back? Are they resigned to their fates? Heads buried in the sand?

I don't get it.

From what I've seen, there is only a tiny number of leaders that are bold enough to go up against him and he's using all kinds of tactics - legal or physical - to silence them. They're probably terrified of the President who encourages intimidation and violence, and rejoice in the death of his fellow politicians.

For the people, I remember a large section of the black voters vowed to 'quit politics' for the Trump term, so are busy voting with their $$$, instead of being in the streets.

All in all I think Trump has regular Americans so poor and overworked, they have no capacity for protest. I also thinks he keeps them so distracted, with a new headline every morning, some probably think they'll actually wake up one morning to the benefits of a thriving empire.

Sadly if he does go we have his little side kick Vance to contend with. Nasty little prick he is.

Yes but there is some (meagre?) comfort that people aren't attracted to Vance like they are Trump. Cult of personality. Like the one surrounding Farage. But not Richard Tice. For example. So Vance won't have that power.

PituitaryPippa · 19/01/2026 17:26

I’m hoping he responded with 👍

JacknDiane · 19/01/2026 17:27

What must young people think of all this?

Everything we teach them....be kind to each other/ treat others as you expect to be treated/ bullies never win...

Well, Trump has blown all that out the water.

The Vikings landed boats in North America over 1000 years ago.

Going by that logic, I hope the Norwegian PM writes and asks for America back.

Imisscoffee2021 · 19/01/2026 17:28

Ego is terrifying. Especially in a political position let alone one that holds so much power.

I said exactly this to a bunch of year 6 chn in a pshe lesson. We were talking about how to resolve differences and that adults can’t bully others at work for example as we need to learn to tolerate and express our opinions in a calm way……..😳

He's a psychopath. Genuinely I think he is.

I think of psychopaths as being fairly bright. Calculating, manipulative, under the radar, shape-shifters, able to mimic normality etc. Trump is as thick as mince, lumbering from moment to moment.

viques · 19/01/2026 17:33

If Greenland belongs tothe Greenlanders just because they went there in boats (according to Trump, whose understanding of history is truly unique) shouldnt Trump be talking about giving the US back to all the indigenous peoples who lived there for hundreds of years before Columbus sailed the ocean blue?

NotTerfNorCis · 19/01/2026 17:35

Trump craves attention. He'll do anything for it, good or bad. People like that don't see reality like the rest of us, and are entirely capable of holding conflicting ideas in their minds - whatever they say is true and good by virtue of the fact they said it, even if it objectively isn't. That's why he lies so easily, because he believes his own lies. And there are no limits to what he might say.

I've always avoided comparing situations to Nazism, but this time... My feeling is that Trump won't stop. If nobody blocks him with Greenland, he'll hammer on with tariffs and troops. Then before we know it, it'll be Mexico, and finally Canada. I used to think it was bluster or joking, but now I'm not sure. He'll do whatever he can get away with because in his mind, anything he does is justified and wonderful.

SpidersAreShitheads · 19/01/2026 17:36

I just had a look to see where this info came from. Apparently the text exchange was released due to a freedom of information request. Norway, unlike the US, takes requests for the release of information seriously….. cough EPSTEIN cough

Look at the professionalism of the communication from the Norwegian PM. Now compare it to the orange fuckwit’s insane reply.

How do you actually deal with someone like him?! I mean genuinely. How on earth do you have serious and reasonable conversations with someone who seems so detached from reality??

VanCleefArpels · 19/01/2026 16:24

Completely agree. And no opposition figure to coalesce around.

And let’s be careful what we wish for - when Trump goes we are likely left with Vance who by contrast is dangerously eloquent (in the Charlie Kirk style) and much more plausible in his peddling of batshittery

I've got niggling suspicious thoughts that that's the plan.

u3ername · 19/01/2026 17:37

Can someone explain what are the checks and balances in the USA to prevent one branch in government, and one person in particular, having all the power? Who is the president accountable to?

persephonia · 19/01/2026 17:37

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/01/2026 14:54

Bring me tribute or I will punish you with war.

Chinggis Khan would be proud!

But he's supposed to be a democratically elected leader of a country with legal international relationships and checks and balances. Not a Mongolian Emperor.

Meh
Qatar brought him tribute (a gold plane) and they still got bombed.
The more you give the more he demands so he's probably harder to do business with than your standard warlord.

drivinmecrazy · 19/01/2026 14:39

Part of me is terrified.
But mostly think he’s all bluster.

I blame the world leaders who don’t take the chance to call him out for it ( though I understand why given the small chance he might escalate)
I’m standing firmly behind Norway, they’re showing more courage that Starmer!!!

I don't think it is 'bluster' at all. He does whatever he wants and nobody will stop him. He's autistic and mentally challenged as well as a narcicist.

He destroys everyone that stands in his way and they are all petrified of him.

This is a man who called the murderer Putin 'The Boss'.

He makes me puke. 🤢 Vile creature.

TheClocksFast · 19/01/2026 17:38

Deranged is what he is.

Vance and Stephen Miller are already setting the overall agenda a lot I suspect while Trump is setting the tone.

Technically, I think they walked there, thousands of years ago. But yes, totally agree.

But Scotland does not want Trump back.

:-)

ChichesterNona · 19/01/2026 17:40

Vance would be worse. He even creates his image based on pictures of 'satan'. (I'm not religious btw).
