Why is my breakfast not working ?? I’m starving!

I eat breakfast at 7 am. By 830am I’m so hungry I feel nauseous ?

I have either :
1 pot full fat Greek yogurt (110g)
a banana (big not small!)
chopped almonds (about 1 tbsp)
chopped walnuts (4 or 5 walnut halves)
berries (strawberry raspberries and blueberries)
OR
porridge (a Quaker sachet) made with 150 ml semi skimmed milk and the same toppings as above .

Why am I so hungry an hour and half later am I doing something wrong ? I do a 10 min workout each morning but it’s not much and I’m just not sure why breakfast isn’t keeping me full ? Have to admit I’m not that clued up on nutrition so do I just need to eat something different? At the time I’m eating it I feel really full after so would be hard to increase quantity. I can’t have eggs for breakfast as I’m allergic to them so that’s not an option for me for something else to try.

I am losing weight and looking to eat around 1500 calories per day but still need about 500 calories per meal and about twice as much protein per meal. Having been logging for over a year, it's definitely the protein that makes me feel full.

My swaps and adds to your current breakfast to get more protein:

Whey or hemp protein powder

Swap to Skyr to eat a greater amount and also add to your porridge when you have that

Some cottage cheese (not everyone's taste, I know!)

Chia Seeds alongside other seeds (2 tbps have 4g of protein)

Nut butter

Make your current 'yoghurt' breakfast into a smoothie, adding milk and some silken tofu

Eat "non-breakfast" foods - you can have a chicken casserole for breakfast if you feel like it!

Why do you keep eating it then?!

I have mine with a big mug of tea. Definitely filling for me - I would be sick if i had any more!

Because it's delicious and healthy. I delay eating it till mid morning because that way it will see me through to lunch. If I ate before leaving for work I'd be starving again by mid morning.

Oh ok. Well, I can only speak for myself! I find it filling but perhaps others won't

I eat it at office at around 11 am - usually, full fat cottage cheese, half a pack of ham, and a hard boiled egg or wolfie porridge topped with banana and Greek yoghurt and then just grab a bit of fruit and a few oat cakes or a cup of soup around 3pm and eat at night

Thestormishere · 15/01/2026 09:05

200 gr Greek yogurt (nothing less than 10gr proteins per 100gr yogurt) plus 10 gr protein powder mixed in does it for me. It also makes me drink lots of water which is a plus

Can you taste the protein powder? I love Greek yoghurt.

Those of you saying move breakfast, I think it works for most people, but if (for example) you need to take medication, then you also need breakfast at certain times. That’s what ruined 16:8 for me. The need to have medication 12 hours apart, with food.

OP, putting what you eat into ChatGPT and asking for advice of tweaks could also work.

Or stomach ulcers. They put paid to my intermittent fasting.

I used to have one meal a day but ulcers need feeding, so I'm now back to two meals a day. Breakfast and dinner.

Wow! What is wolfie porridge?

Wow! What is wolfie porridge?

It’s pre potted stuff and has chopped nuts in it and a separate pot of honey - very nice

Crikeyalmighty · 15/01/2026 14:36

Will state I’m also on a diet , so have been eating this way for 9 months - I find if I just have a coffee when I get to co work centre about 10ish ( work for myself) then I’m totally fine for an hour but I don’t have to get up that early or kids to sort etc -

Harrumphhhh · 15/01/2026 09:59

This is so true 🤣🤣

Also OP states she's allergic to eggs....queue multiple posts telling her she needs to eat eggs 🤣
OP if your yogurt is full fat greek not greek style yogurt it will have a fair amount of protein. I have the same as you but also put sugar free muesli on it and that fills me up.

CherryRipe1 · 15/01/2026 14:44

Any porridge be it organic, steel cut, instant and I'm hungry within 2 hours. Some people get a blood sugar spike from oats. I changed to omelettes and tortillas with lots of veg & salad & feel much more satieted. (Sp)?

CherryRipe1 · 15/01/2026 14:47

Oh, sorry, didn't rtft, op I see you can't eat eggs. I think I've seen vegan egg substitute but can't vouch for what they taste like.

Same here, and I only eat proper porridge. I soak it overnight, then add oat milk to cook it with and a teaspoon of honey.

It's delicious, but it's time for another breakfast an hour later!

Have you considered just not being allergic to eggs op?

😆

DeanElderberry · 15/01/2026 15:06

Missing the bit about the egg allergy is not a deliberate rudeness, and since a lot of people other than the OP are likely to read the thread if they also suffer from post-oats-ravenous hunger, suggesting to them one of the simplest and most efficient breakfast protein packets is harmless.

And many of us have made alternative suggestions. Avocado with sliced emmental and marmite is jolly good.

Thestormishere · 15/01/2026 15:08

CaptainSevenofNine · 15/01/2026 14:19

Can you taste the protein powder? I love Greek yoghurt.

No. It took me a while to find one that suited me and I did. I don't want to do it publicity for free, however it's the only one that does not have that 'protein powder' taste. I mix it with the thick yogurt, add some water to make it smoother and more pleasant, and off I go. I have been having it for months now and it has made a massive difference. Before it was still the same yogurt but with fruit or a little jam, and it was not enough to get me to lunch.

SteelyEyed · 15/01/2026 12:54

Seriously what kind of moron can't read to the end of the (fairly short) first post by the OP.... god help them. Attention span of a goldfish.

Yeah this sort of moron, who is experiencing cognitive decline and has the attention span of a goldfish

So shoot me.

LakeGeneva1 · 15/01/2026 15:18

Of starving protein eg eggs is a must otherwise wait until lunchtime

FeistyFrankie · 15/01/2026 15:54

I try to avoid carbs altogether in the morning, as like you I'm ravenous about an hour later!

Try eating boiled eggs for breakfast OP, or maybe a toasted bagel with some cream cheese and smoked salmon? It'll likely keep you full for longer.

itsthetea · 15/01/2026 15:57

Op - you just need more food. those Quaker sachets are quite small - get a bag of oats and make a double portion for example or put a few more nuts and seeds in

AyrshireTryer · 15/01/2026 16:03

Bacon sandwich?

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 15/01/2026 16:24

Why are you having chopped nuts instead of whole as whole will keep you fuller for longer.

Try adding 2 or 3 tablespoons of ground linseed. You need to grind it as you eat it otherwise it goes off. It is very filling. You could also add pumpkin seeds and sesame seeds.

The sachets aren't great for you as they are highly processed.

itsthetea · 15/01/2026 16:25

I always chew my nuts before swallowing- why on earth would swallowing them while make me fuller for longer ?

soupyspoon · 15/01/2026 16:54

Some of the things that people spout online, like chewing whole nuts instead of chewing chopped nuts keeping you fuller for longer, are borne out of observations in labs, the very minute differences in burn rate, calorie absorption, protein delivery etc etc

In the real day to day life, not sure how much difference it makes. However the fat absorption is higher in chopped or ground nuts and me personally, I think makes me feel more full up, I enjoy eating quite a lot of fat.

Do it by all means but I doubt it makes a huge amount of difference to the average person.
