Back on US soil, an American citizen in a peaceful neighbourhood is gunned down by masked agents sent there to make people afraid.

Despicable, wretched people lying, lying, lying - all day, every day, about everything.

Placemark. There aren’t really words for what happened in Minneapolis or so many other places where ICE have been but no cameras.

I could not understand this new video- I thought she was in a black car but this one was dark red. Was she the smiling woman in a hat (in the car, not walking around outside)?

The car was dark red in the other video as well, the light might have made it look darker. Renee Good is indeed the smiling woman in the car

If only it were true

Excellent summaries of the news upthread.
Lately, I read the news, start writing a post about it, then give up. Trump has gone full on dictator and we are observing it in real time. There's spin, AI, doctored videos and so much happening in different theatres, that I look back at the days when we were only talking about tariffs and think: Ahhh, the good old days.

placemats · 09/01/2026 22:18

Oil executives meeting regarding Venezuela. Most certainly it's all about oil. Trumpfart loves the Chinese and of course himself.

That's exactly how I feel.

I read the NYT interview and just didn't have the strength to comment.

After being naively optimistic last year I now do believe that Drumpf and his flying monkeys are all working in tandem to get to the point where they can declare a national emergency or whatever and cancel mid-terms.

I see no way out, there is no coherent opposition. Ever since lies have been subrverted to be accepted truths, normal people with morals and ethics are lost.

LlttledrummergirI · 09/01/2026 22:36

I can't keep up with it all. There seems to be insanity and derangement coming from every direction.

It feels as though we are reaching a tipping point.

You know you've already lost the argument when you post schiesse like this.

Igotjelly · 09/01/2026 22:39

As ever they’re flooding the zone, we need to wade through the bullshit, half truths and noise to find the signal. Remember how overwhelming their first few weeks were.

Igotjelly · 09/01/2026 22:43

There may be no coherence amongst the opposition right now but there are fundamentally good people out there and I still see reason for hope.

placemats · 10/01/2026 00:26

I'll leave this here.

Thanks. I was just thinking that if I bought one from the pawn shop down the road, I might own it, but it would never actually be mine. I think we mean the same thing.

Jimmy Kimmel commenting on that said something like, if Jay Z gives you his wedding ring, it doesn't mean you're married to Beyonce 😂

Seeing the likes of Jacob Frey speak, I have renewed hope!

Trump's comment in Times interview about "he doesn’t need to abide by international law and the only constraint keeping his power in check is his own morality" is chilling. (that's paraphrased, not verbatim)
The man's morality is very dubious, plus he considers any opinion he has as the ONLY valid opinion

logicisall · 10/01/2026 09:27

I'm renewed with hope after O&G exes did what I expected and aren't tripping over themselves to enter VZ market. I like the comment: "Maybe Trump will bankrupt the oil industry too."

OK, who here can post a share or archived link so I can read the actual NYT interview and not the summary? I prefer to read source documents.🙏

“We’re not going to look at what people lost in the past, because that was their fault. That was a different president. We’re going to make a lot of money, but we’re not going to go back,” he said.

More fool those who accept Trump's words on guarantees.

This is the longest thing I can find on the NYT site, and it’s a podcast. HTH.

An Interview With the President

Four New York Times reporters sat down with President Trump for a nearly two-hour interview.

He is enabled by the abolition of Congress. That's on the American people.

For what it's worth, I email my senator - well, former, since I now live in the UK, but I doubt he knows that - several times a week and call on occasion, urging him to sack up. He never does, alas. Just pushes his glasses down his nose and issues another strongly worded letter.

Sigh.

The man's morality is very dubious,

Surely you're being overly kind to him here?
