Back on US soil, an American citizen in a peaceful neighbourhood is gunned down by masked agents sent there to make people afraid.

Despicable, wretched people lying, lying, lying - all day, every day, about everything.

Apologies if this has already been noted, amongst all the other ridiculous things he's doing.

Oh yes, I forgot about those.
Although I'm thinking they were needed because Melania refused to attend rather than because of assassination risk?

Or to ensure that real Melania got to live peacefully if ever he and fake Melania got assassinated ?

AcrossthePond55 · 10/01/2026 19:13

Oh my goodness, Iran! I've been out running errands and had no idea things had intensified.

I'm so frightened for the brave protesters. The current regime is brutal and will make ICE look like puppies at play.

I'm seeing on CNN that the son of the former Shah is encouraging the protesters. I remember when the last Shah was deposed in 1979 but TBH I didn't pay much attention to the whole thing so I don't know if it was a good or bad thing at the time.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/01/2026 19:24

He wasn't good; what followed was a whole lot worse.

In the late sixties when everyone was preaching revolution and fighting in the streets, my mother used to say sadly that when you stir up the pot in any country, the scum tends to rise to the top. She generally cited the French revolution, the Russian revolution and the Spanish civil war when she said this, but I expect she'd have added Iran if that had happened by then.

So I am on X and watching lots of it.

I was VERY concerned that the protests were calling for the return of Pahlavi
BUT
If you read the OpEd that Reza Pahlavi put in the Washington Post
AND
the way he is tweeting and posting
he plans to ride in, help set up a transition government
waft away again (keeping his unearned wealth)

If the Iranians can do their own regime change WITHOUT
USA interference
that would be "a good thing"

DuncinToffee · 10/01/2026 20:00

The shah was installed as a puppet for the US/UK I think and then turned into quite the dictator iirc

PerkingFaintly · 10/01/2026 20:08

Just for our info, more about Pahlavi and his history and current position, including making positive noises about a 100-day plan for an interim administration leading to a democratic future with free elections and equal rights for women.

Anyone can make noises, of course.

but he is better than what there is at present

and if he steps in then Trump might stay out

We had a girl start at our school in 1978 whose family had fled the revolution

Igotjelly · 10/01/2026 20:40

The Iranian people deserve so much better than what they have. The women particularly are so incredibly brave. I hate when ordinary people need to be brave. Fuck evil men!

MsJinks · 10/01/2026 20:56

Trump will take credit whatever happens though - or deny all knowledge if a poor outcome.
Not fully kept up with Syria but that’s not quite how Al Sharaa said it would be is it?
But I do think it couldn’t be worse - I hope the Iranian people can decide.

Al Sharaa took over a country devastated by a decade of bombing.

Hopefully Pahlavi will step in to a country with working utilities and civic society

its why I REALLY REALLY want Trump to stay out

LlttledrummergirI · 10/01/2026 21:59

I'm wishing them all the best, it sounds horrific at the moment- the regime seems to be in last ditch defence mode. I keep waiting to hear that the Ayatollahs have fled.
There's not much coming out on my feeds at the moment though, I assume down to the blackout.

The devil you know (current) vs the devil you don't (Pahlavi) vs the devil you know will lead your country straight to hell (Trump), eh?

I wonder if there is or was ever any kind of 'relationship' between Trump and the Pahlavi family. Probably not, since Scrotus would consider the former shah to be 'a loser' since he was deposed, and it appears that the family has no 'influence' in the business world. But I'm sure if Pahlavi ends up as some sort of 'regime change facilitator' he'll suddenly find himself Scrotus' BFF.

Many have.
They are on film arriving at Moscow Airport
(Tom Tugendhat is the source for that)

@AcrossthePond55
As per Tom Tugendhat
Venezuela were the keystone as they enabled Iranian Sanctions busting
so Trump arresting Maduro critically weakened Iran
but also broke the Russian drone supply chain.
Pahlavi lives in the US
but would love to be other than his fathers son
so lots of wheels are turning at once

We all just have to keep our toes crossed that Trump is bored enough NOT to put troops in Iran.

Hamas and Hezbollah will not be sleeping well tonight.

I just heard a 'bite' of him on CNN saying (paraphrasing) "If they shoot, we'll come in shooting" or words to that effect. The commentator then stated that 'it was clarified that that doesn't mean US 'boots on the ground', but didn't cite their source. Scrotus seems to now be seeing himself as John fucking Wayne. Except in the movies Wayne's character always led his troops into battle, risking his own life in the bargain. Scrotus just sends others to do his dirty work and potentially die doing it.

so lots of wheels are turning at once

Sounds like lots of dominos starting to fall at one to me.

This article has Scrotus' exact quote.
