Back on US soil, an American citizen in a peaceful neighbourhood is gunned down by masked agents sent there to make people afraid.

Despicable, wretched people lying, lying, lying - all day, every day, about everything.

It's hard not to suspect that whilst this massive pantomime is distracting the worlds press, we should be looking elsewhere for the real story.

Sorry to any US readers, but right now I could not be happier reading a headline that the UK has let you down. I think there are 457+ reasons why that feels like justice.

Apparently Bessent's "letting us down" comment is about the Chagos islands deal. Remember, the one Trump was all praise for a few months ago.

I thought Bessent couldn't make me laugh any harder after his feeble, patronising attempt yesterday to coax European countries out of fighting Trump's economic fire with fire.

But he has managed to cap that.

Trump-Davos latest: US president lands for Greenland meetings and Davos speech - after UK told it's 'letting US down'

Donald Trump has landed in Switzerland ahead of meetings with other world leaders and a speech he'll give this afternoon in Davos. So far, he doesn't appear to be backing down on his plan to take Greenland. Watch and follow live below.

Starmer just now on Trump's u-turn on Chagos

“He wants me to yield on my position, and I'm not going to do so, given that that was his express purpose.”

A precursor to the 'main event'?

Lutnick 'heckled' at WEF dinner.
US commerce secretary Howard Lutnick was reportedly heckled at a World Economic Forum dinner in Davos hosted by BlackRock’s Larry Fink.
The Financial Times have the details, saying:
The gathering on Tuesday night descended into uproar after combative remarks from Lutnick, the people said, with widespread jeering, some guests walking out and appeals for calm from Fink, head of the world’s largest asset manager and interim co-chair of WEF.

TRIP is very good today.

Is that TRIP US or UK? Because I was hugely disappointed by much of the latest from TRIP US, I think both Scaramucci and Kay are overly optimistic about the effect Trump is having/will have on both the US and the World. (Also, Katty Kay’s grammar really annoys me, I think she’s an Oxbridge graduate, and as such, should really know you don’t say things like “to Anthony and I”, so I can’t take what she’s saying seriously half the time.)
The bit tagged on at the end when Katty Kay interviewed Congresswoman Madeline Dean was excellent, though, I thought. For some reason I was in tears listening to the Congresswoman talking about Greenland and Trump - probably because for the first time for ages, I was listening to an American politician talking sense and behaving normally.

“One of the hecklers was Al Gore, the former US vice-president, according to two executives present.”

DuncinToffee · 21/01/2026 13:05

Lutnick is being interviewed

Lutnick: "I didn't understand why they sent a couple dozen military people to Greenland. It made no sense whatsoever. I mean, they didn't send those couple of dozen people to Ukraine before Russia came in. If you provoke the president, you're gonna get a response."

DuncinToffee · 21/01/2026 13:06

BARTIROMO: I mean, we talk about evil action from Putin going into Ukraine. People are looking at Greenland and saying, 'How is it possible the US can acquire another country even though they're pushing back?'

LUTNICK: I don't remember Greenland being another country. We're not taking over Denmark.

Fuck me did he really mean that he doesn't think Greenland is an actual country?
The stupidity and arrogance of these people and their comments is off the scale. What does he think it is?

JoshLymanSwagger · 21/01/2026 13:17

Trump has always very actively used divide and rule – even among his own staff. He sets people against each other so no individual gains enough following to lead a team against him. Presumably it's one reason his businesses are such failures.

A certain German leader during the second world war did exactly the same thing.

Chilling really.

pity he didn't fall/be pushed head first out of the chopper, then be rushed to dignitas

i agree re TRIP US, the content recently hasn’t been up to the usual quality.

Scaramucci fans - he's on Sky news.

According to live reporting, the hall in Davos is full to capacity and Trump is being driven to the congress centre.

See you all on the new thread shortly 🍿

Looks to be more than capacity.

Hopefully the emergency exits work, with all the electrics in a tent.

From a safety pov, you couldn't pay me enough to be in that crush to see an Orange Pensioner stumble and fumble his way through a rambling presser.

JoshLymanSwagger · 21/01/2026 13:35

JoshLymanSwagger · 21/01/2026 13:35

Does he go through Immigration and Passport control?

JoshLymanSwagger · 21/01/2026 13:36

Sky reporter just said his COS said with the Mid-terms coming up, there will be less international travel.
