Today's focus is health admin - my blood pressure seems to have tipped over the line between 'we need to keep an eye on it' to 'we should probably do something about it'.

Which requires a 24 hour monitor, blood tests, ecg etc all of which need to be booked and attended. This is a week.off from work so a good time to get it all out of the way.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/03/2026 07:41

Good morning Froggy and Lobelia. 🩷

I've been puttering since my last post. I decided to finally get back into my kitchen to work on the painting I abandoned last fall.
I painted the bit of wall adjacent to the counter with the sink which was such a pain because it is just a short bit that a small roller is still to awkward for so it was a combo of paint brush and careful upward rollering. I painted the underside of the cabinets to better reflect light and then I touched up scuffs on a few walls and baseboards. I pretty much re-painted a wall in tbe dining room. 🙄
Set-up to clean-up was about 2 hours. So, not bad. I will have to do a 2nd or 3rd pass on that part of the kitchen wall, but it's got a good base and I'll assess when dry tomorrow. The best part was no paint spills or rollering over parts I wanted to avoid. I had to keep reminding myself to take my time though. 😄

Peridot1 · 16/03/2026 08:50

Thanks @Baital. I don’t think it was what I was expecting but I’ll keep at it and see if it works for me.

Good painting @Mumtobabyhavoc. I’m planning on doing my bedroom at some stage this year. I want to add some moulding to the wall behind the bed too. And possibly paint my white Ikea furniture.

Good luck with the keeping everyone alive @RunningKatie.

Today’s list:

  • kitchen - dishwasher, countertops, lights over island and vacuum and wash floor
  • laundry
  • menu plan with some new ideas
  • shopping list
  • gym session
  • finish unpacking - have three packing cubes on spare bed that need emptying
  • arrange ironing
  • unpack new bookcase for living room

Apparently the weather is due to improve at some stage this week so hoping to get into the garden.

Have a great day all.

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 16/03/2026 08:59

Good morning everyone. I fell off the thread last week as I was away, trying to get back into the swing of things. Boiler is refusing to produce hot water which is less than ideal, luckily the amazing people we use for servicing and this sort of thing are able to come this morning 💜 this means that instead of working though I will have to spend some time clearing a path through the lego and mess for them, I suppose that is a small price to pay 😁

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/03/2026 09:08

Peridot, I'd love to see before/after pics. It's so satisfying diy'ing.
Single, hot water is a bit of a necessity, so glad you've got someone coming by. ✅

It's pouring rain here. There are flood warnings as quite a storm has settled in apparently.

FurForksSake · 16/03/2026 09:42

My neighbour popped by to ask a favour to wait in for someone to collect a parcel for her as she’s got to go out urgently. So until that happens I can’t do anything of the outside or dirty jobs. She’s lovely and it’s a child health related emergency so it’s all good but not what I expected this morning!

Peridot1 · 16/03/2026 10:54

@Mumtobabyhavoc - it’s very much still at the planning stage. We are having the hall, stairs and landing done next month and I definitely won’t be even thinking about it before then. Probably won’t be able to afford it either! Even DIYing.

RunningKatie · 16/03/2026 20:56

All fed and nobody dead so all good here! I've baked, the dishwasher is loaded, washing machine too so all is good.
Think I'll be having an early night with a book as I'm keen to not wear myself out by being too efficient!

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 16/03/2026 21:46

I did a mini @petalpower style errand afternoon (did I get the right name?), on the way to physio dropped off dry cleaning, charity shop bag, charity shop books... And bought five books having dropped off three 🙄

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/03/2026 23:05

Had the plumber here this morning to replace bathroom sink pipe that was leaking and have it all snaked for maintenance. Washed bathroom and hall floor after and cleaned sink and toilet. Washed a load of towels and just put them into the dryer. Last night's painting looks good, but will def need a 2nd coat. Have been doing school with Havoc (and Baby until nap) past couple of hours. We watched a doc about polar bears, vids for Italian and French, telling time, the lymphatic system and now volcanoes with Mr Rogers and Paddington cartoons in between. Had a slice of chicken pie for a late lunch and now going to take a nap and put a movie on for Havoc. It's still raining here. ☔️🌧️

RunningKatie · 17/03/2026 12:41

I have a lunchtime heartwarming tale, I lost a heart shaped button dc2 had given me weeks ago, I couldn't find it - it would have dropped from my coat pocket on a dog walk.
Today in the glorious sunshine there it was on the pavement outside, heavens knows how but I'm so happy.
DH still away, dc still alive, dog still looking very sad.
Today's mission is to book some theatre tickets and order GCSE revision guides for dc1.

FurForksSake · 17/03/2026 12:45

Oh I love that you found it! How lovely.

I have washed the towels, terribly exciting but necessary job for the day. And I think I’ve for a stain out of the carpet!

SpiritOfEdna · 17/03/2026 14:21

@FurForksSake mind boggling at making squirrels 😃
busy workday already today, working with a very challenging colleague - lots of deep breaths being taken
Today

  • block out the pattern on one of the Rome posters
  • brush up all the mud from the floor - I recognise the pattern from my walking boots - so I'm guilty 😄
  • need to make up a batch of soup - will do the prep in between boring work calls today
  • also need to book off some annual leave or lose it before end of March - there will be kittens!
  • I need to book in a hair cut - my hair has just gone into a ponytail - which I hate 😄
  • todays sewing task is to learn how to do a bound button hole 😄
  • Finance admin done
  • wrap up and deliver a late birthday gift to one of the G Nieces
  • my one domestic job is the trims on the kitchen cabinets are filthy so will clean them
That's all for today, have a good one, SoE

Hello! I have a few days off and DH is doing longer days this week so I am enjoying some peace.

So pleased you found your little button @RunningKatie What a lovely surprise 💕
Everyone is all go I see! It's lovely to see the sun here today. Breezy too so there is washing on the line which makes me happy.

I have been reading books and walking. Not at the same time, though I did see a man doing just that the other day, with an actual book and not a phone. I was quite impressed.

I need to do something about dinner now and the house has lost it's sparkle.

Best wishes to all 💐

autumnangel · 17/03/2026 18:22

I have a very relaxing day today, Japanese head massage (which was incredible!) and a 2 hour nap. I'm now going to finish a documentary I started last night then get on with a few jobs...

I've not even made a start on my daily jobs yet never mind anything else. I wrote a list on 1st March of 30 small jobs to do throughout March. So far I've done 2!! I'm determined to get it all done before the end of the month.

Today's tasks are:

  • Clean 1 kitchen cupboard
  • Clean cutlery drawer
  • Sort chest of drawers in spare room
  • Apply for credit card

St Patricks Day Delivery GIF by Instacart

Happy St Patrick's Day 🍀

WinterFrogs · 17/03/2026 19:51

Sounds lovely @autumnangel! Hope yoh got your tasks done.
Happy St Patrick's Day to you too @Mumtobabyhavoc I love the gif 😆

@crivit I'm sure I spotted a post from you about being injured but I can't find you now 😢 Hope you're ok.

DH had to make his own dinner again. I'd nibbled 😳 I am A Bad Wife, honestly he should LTB. But he did tell me to relax so I pointed out that I'd taken him at his word.

I will behave myself tomorrow 🙏

Peridot1 · 17/03/2026 21:35

Happy St Patrick’s Day! ☘️

Bacon and cabbage for dinner. Well a nice baked ham with lovely sautéed savoy cabbage in butter and cream with mashed potatoes, carrots and peas really. Followed by a Baileys.

In bed now as shattered.

Glad you found your button @RunningKatie.

autumnangel · 18/03/2026 05:09

Oh @Peridot1 that dinner sounds amazing!
@WinterFrogs "he should LTB" hahaha that made me chuckle!

Did I complete any of the tasks I set last night? Absolutely not!! I did, however, organise seats, luggage and travel insurance for an upcoming holiday. Then I set up a group chat for our sponsored walk and got lost in the world of walking shoes and that was my night.
Up super early this morning to squeeze in a wee gym session before work. Today I WILL complete the tasks that weren't done yesterday: Clean 1 kitchen cupboard, clean cutlery drawer, sort chest of drawers in spare room and apply for credit card.

Peridot1 · 18/03/2026 10:43

@autumnangel - it was really quite yummy!

It sounds like you were very productive even if it wasn’t things on your list. Write them on your list and tick them off! I do that a lot. I have noticed DH doing it too.

Gorgeous sunny day here today. Just been out for a walk around the fields. Haven’t done that since mid October I think. Trying to get back into exercise more than just doing my one PT session each week.

Our cleaner is here today. She just does the bathrooms and downstairs cloakroom normally but DS is working from home so she can’t do his en-suite so will do hall, stairs and landing today instead. I’ll wash the hall floor once she is gone.

Today’s tasks:

  • laundry - one load in
  • dishwasher - unloaded, reloaded and back on
  • walk - done
  • email to interior designer clarifying next steps in house project - I think we are almost at the end of the consultation fee we paid so need to be strategic. I have more of an idea of what we want so it has been helpful
  • finish my unpacking which is still not done!
  • dust dining and sitting areas

Have a great day all.

BerfyTigot · 18/03/2026 12:39

Today I've had a blood test, unloaded and reloaded dishwasher and washing machine and dealt with some post.

I've also done some decluttering and tidying and put things to go to charity shop in car. I know I'll be pleased when it's done, but I do find it dull even with audiobooks to listen to.

petalpower · 18/03/2026 12:49

@SingleThreadJoiner2 yes it’s me that’s a big fan of a multiple errand trip out! I’ve well and truly fallen off this thread but have been reading and lurking, just not posting. We’re back on the oldies visit this week, staying with elderly PIL and seeing my dad at the nursing home. I’ve been out this morning to buy things that dad needs and get a new strap for his watch and will visit this afternoon. DH is busy doing jobs for his parents who are both 91 now! Back home tomorrow.

RunningKatie · 18/03/2026 13:06

It's a glorious day, ddog and I have done a good long walk, I've done a charity shop drop and washed my car, also got a typewriter working. Now I need to order a ribbon for it, my teens want to be retro!
Washing is out, and I'm wearing a tshirt. Apparently snow is due next week so spring is doing its usual thing!
This afternoon I'm planning a bit of paperwork, since I got a new desk there's a heavy box of paperwork that is homeless so I need to sort it. Shifting everyday to work is getting tedious.

Peridot1 · 18/03/2026 15:18

Slight change of plan to my list and I’ve just been and done an hour in the garden in the glorious sunshine. Weeded the planters on our small patio at the top of the garden. And had a lovely cup of tea sitting in the sun. So nice.

@RunningKatie - I’ve heard it’s due to get really cold again next week too. Although not snow…. Fingers crossed!

Right. Off to wash hall floor.
