I did mainly laundry yesterday and will be mainly doing ‘putting away clean laundry’ today. I loose the will to actually put stuff away once it’s washed and dried.

(Bit like lasagne… once I’ve made the mince, Im eyeing up the packet of spaghetti and Parmesan.)

Going to head for strength training at lunchtime and I have a podiatrist appointment this afternoon. Pesky big toes on both feet prone to nail problems. I make him give me a pedicure too. Well, he offers…!

Im sure we’re not quite out of winter but I’m loving this weather… just need to wear a little less. Was boiling yesterday.

Have a lovely day everyone and get outside if you can ☺️

WideOpenBeaches · 25/02/2026 07:54

@mumofoneAloneandwell
Thats a dreadful journey you have to do every day. I’m assuming you’ve explored all transport options?

I had a similar situation with my DC who was weekly boarding at a school 1.5 hrs drive away. He had medical issues and so became a day boy for 2 terms attending morning only. 0745 to 1200.

I gave up going home and walked my dogs and drank coffee in the car until it was time to pick him up.

We were early adopters of the overnight oats breakfast as he’d sit in the car shovelling it in. That must have been 14-15 years ago.

I feel your pain.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/02/2026 09:14

I'm just lol at a typo in my previous post: I washed a loaf of clothes.
No, not a funny Canadian exoression. Just another typo from my phone with multiple cracks on the screen. 😂

RunningKatie · 25/02/2026 21:33

We made a sourdough loaf last week @Mumtobabyhavoc just reminded me! I just remembered, it wasn't our finest but still good.
Tonight is a gin and tonic night, I went to the office and the computer man updated my laptop. I've lost all my saved links, URLs, file shortcuts - all the stuff that makes stuff happen quicker. I could cry, so instead I've eaten a Penguin (biscuit) and I'm drinking a gin.
Ddog is still sad but normal sad levels again thanks @WinterFrogs
Today I've achieved nothing task wise except hanging out washing, I've started very slightly researching bathroom refurbs, I'd love to do it but dread the upheaval.

WinterFrogs · 26/02/2026 07:59

That's a helluva school run @mumofoneAloneandwell ! I hope you get something sorted soon. I can see why you did that when your son was a day boy @WideOpenBeaches
I'm long past that thankfully, though I still spend a few hours behind the wheel each week. I'm a mumsnet cliché as I let DH drive when we are together. Just because I do so much of it when we are not together, not because he's a Man.
@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia your school run sounds idyllic. What's the John Grisham narrator like?
I woke up with a ridiculous headache at 4am. Ended up in the spare room listening to Rebecca. Headache has gone now.
@Mumtobabyhavoc your washing loaf seemed quite reasonable to me, speaking as someone who washed and tumble dried their debit card on Monday. It still works at the atm surprisingly.

Happy to hear that your dog is less sad @RunningKatie

Today I must book hair and dental appointments. Pre coffee and boiling kettle things achieved: washing put on, beds made, short stretch routine/tai chi, swish and swiped bathroom. Mopped floors yesterday. Feeling quite smug. Half an hour before I must leave the house.

Have a great day all 😘

WinterFrogs · 26/02/2026 08:01

Ps @RunningKatie i can quite see how computer situation has driven you to drink! Sympathies! 💐

WideOpenBeaches · 26/02/2026 08:31

Thanks @WinterFrogs !
You've just reminded me I need to make a hair appointment too…

Im in awe of your ‘household energy’ 😁

WinterFrogs · 26/02/2026 08:42

Thank you @WideOpenBeaches Will it help if i tell you that i ended up pinned beneath a sleeping cat with my coffee, and so I still haven't left home?

WideOpenBeaches · 26/02/2026 08:46

Well your prompt worked @WinterFrogs as I now have a hair appointment 😆
Thank you!

Id be a wheezing puffball with a cat on my chest…

Off to see my mentee this morning and get her hopefully kitted out for her Court appearance thanks to a local charity that has a warehouse full of clothes and a volunteer stylist.
Im going to need to eat breakfast…

WinterFrogs · 26/02/2026 10:50

And i still haven't @WideOpenBeaches 😂

I hope you have a good morning supporting your mentee!

I made it out from under the cat and now i am multitasking out in the fresh air, which does not suit me and probably why I'm still feeling a little burnt out.

Home to journal shortly and then i must settle to doing some work.

WinterFrogs · 26/02/2026 10:51

And now it's bloody raining on me. Nice 😎

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/02/2026 12:06

@mumofoneAloneandwell that commute sounds awful. What's the distance home to school? We live just a few minutes' drive from the dc's school, but I've applied to a few others for a bit more of an enriched education (French immersion) opportunity. It would mean no option to walk ever, so quite a commitment to driving for the foreseeable if accepted. I hope you find something closer.

It's 4am and have been awake an hour. I think I've come down with Covid as I became sick quite rapidly yesterday. And just when i had been feeling better from the last bout... 😔. So, I've taken Tylenol and have a lozenge for the sore throat, drank a lot of water and done a sinus rinse. Temp is elevated, but no fever. And now I'm scrolling. 🙄

WinterFrogs · 26/02/2026 12:25

Ohhh you haven't had much luck healthwise, you poor thing @Mumtobabyhavoc 😢 I hope you feel better soon!

I'm knackered! I really do need to get some work done but I've come back in to a cold house and so I've taken root under a blanket. I wasn't awake all that long at 4am but it's impacted my day. See also: mud.

Time to make some lunch. Uhp free since however long. Three weeks maybe? Except sausages in an otherwise home made sausage casserole. Too much cheese though so still carrying weight around my middle. Right. Food, then work. Brb 👋

WideOpenBeaches · 26/02/2026 15:42

Oh you’ve had a rough time recently @Mumtobabyhavoc I hope it’s not Covid and the painkillers kick in for you.

Back here, it’s been a while since I’ve heard any mention of Covid. Keeping my fingers crossed that it stays that way.

Back home from long mentee session trying on Court stuff at this local charity that has a stack of clothes and a stylist on hand. They were absolutely fantastic with her.

She was absolutely terrified but we’ve found a dress that she looked amazing in and a few other bits and pieces that could constitute a smart outfit.

So… I’m planning on a large G&T once the sun is over the yardarm.

WideOpenBeaches · 26/02/2026 15:43

How are you feeling @WinterFrogs on your UPF free way of eating? Hope it’s having the desired results.

WinterFrogs · 26/02/2026 17:31

I'm slightly overdoing cheese and fruit @WideOpenBeaches but feeling good, on the whole. I am very pleased that chocolate and crisps have lost their hold!

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 26/02/2026 18:19

@WideOpenBeaches I know of a small company that's been doing lots of work analysing how biased courts often are against DV victims and how this can even be reflected in the language used. No wonder your poor mentee is so nervous about it all. 💐

I sorted out a present for D's godmother today. Have neglected laundry for a couple of days and it shows... 😱

RunningKatie · 26/02/2026 20:00

Roll on the weekend, my IT issues are not resolved at work and I've struggled to get things done. However, I've sorted a bookshelf out, got the washing machine loaded up and dishwasher. The dc are both having showers and I've managed to get dc1 in for an emergency trim, she was beginning to resemble Dougal from the Magic Roundabout - not the look she's after!
Tomorrow eve dh is out so I'm planning a lazy one as the weekend's going to be busy.

WideOpenBeaches · 26/02/2026 21:35

Well she’s had a tough old time @SingleThreadJoiner2. Obviously can’t go into detail but it involved him denying her serious medical care and imprisonment in her home.

Im curious about that study you mentioned but I almost don’t want to know IYSWIM. It’ll only make me really cross…

WinterFrogs · 28/02/2026 14:15

@SingleThreadJoiner2 I am an environmental let down as I do a load of laundry every day, with just two of us here. If I don't, I get straight out of the habit. I have very muddy habits though, and in my defense I chuck everything in together and do a long 30c wash. There is always enough for a full load. I have washing out on the line today which pleases me greatly!

I am watching a really good documentary about the Amazon rain forest. It is stunning! I should be sorting my garden out but I feel like having a rest.

I hope our @Peridot1 is having a good time down under and that everyone else is fine! Lazy Saturday leftovers tea for us tonight!

FurForksSake · 28/02/2026 16:29

Afternoon! I’ve got a week off work, I’m doing a slow long phased return from hip surgery and this week got diagnosed with fibromyalgia and hypermobility spectrum disorder. But, annual leave this coming week.

my aims this week are to plant a load of bulbs and to sand, glaze and fire some pots. Oh and to make 30 air dry clay squirrels.

RunningKatie · 28/02/2026 16:50

30 air dry clay squirrels @FurForksSake ? You can't leave that comment hanging! Is this for some secret squirrel takeover?!
My weekend has started well, been to look at a bathroom showroom - DH is getting onboard with the idea. Booked a hotel for an adventure with the dc, sorted a bank account, picked up someone elses dog poop they'd left all over the pavement outside our house dirty so and so's.
In sad but trivial news I've lost a little red heart shaped button dc2 gave me that I carry in my coat pocket. It will have pinged out on last nights dog walk so going to retrace our steps later in the vague and sentimental hope I spot it.
Hope @Mumtobabyhavoc is feeling better and everyone is having a lovely weekend.

FurForksSake · 28/02/2026 17:11

@RunningKatie I hope it turns up!

Squirrels is because my husband is opening a squirrels drey in his scout group (hes group lead volunteer so in charge of 2x beavers / cubs / scouts and now a bunch of tiny squirrels). The idea is that each squirrel will decorate their squirrel and write their name on and hang it on a tree to show they are present. They will just be flat squirrels, I do not have the energy to hand build actual squirrels, although I could 🤣

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 28/02/2026 17:24

@FurForksSake just posting quickly. I have fibromylagia also and it's pretty grim.

I can[t work anything like a full time job anymore, and its so debilitating. When I was first diagnosed I felt relief because finally i knew what it was and could work with it. Then i felt utter rage and despair as it's so life limiting. I felt- and feel so angry at what i am missing out on and what my family are missing out on because I am so floored by exhaustion and pain.

I'm nowhere near sorting it all out, but for what it is worth ...

-try and learn your triggers. Mine is trying to do too much, and stress. I have to seriously pace myself.
-I have to pay attention to my diet. Dairy is an issue for me. Foods that trigger inflammation is an issue- and I have other issues such as asthma which are also triggered by dairy.
-I need to pace myself. I am a bit hit or miss with this- I find that if I feel okay i try and cram everything into my day, then I collapse for 10 days.
-My blood tests revealed I was drastically low on B12, Vitamin D and magnesium. I am self medicating with all that via pills and it really has made a difference. The buggest difference has been with magnesium.
-I'm not great with painkillers. They make me sick, tired, sluggish and foggy. For myself I'd rather the pain- but that said- when I need an anti inflammatory in particular I do take them. I have a friend who is 10 years further down the road with fibro and he is taking ALL the painkillers- and the anti convulsants like pregablin. For him, the cure is shocking. I'm trying to avoid it for as long as I can.
-Quite alot of the mental agony of fibro for me is the scepticism others have. I have had it said to my face 'Oh yes, fibromyalgia- that's the disease lazy people make up'. That person is now dead and dismembered in my garden- so... silver linings.

Most of all- be gentle with yourself. This is an absolute fucker of a condition.

And - hugs. xx

FurForksSake · 28/02/2026 17:30

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia thank you. I’m a bit lost for words, but I really appreciate your words and support.
