Hello!

New thread for when we are ready.

Happy New Year, Happy New Thread

I have same touble as @autumnangel with tupperware lids. They are like socks i find. There's always some that have no partner.

A strategy is sorting one drawer at a time over several days works quite well.

@Peridot1 I have the opposite problem having put on a few pounds, mainly round the middle.

@FurForksSake We really need a new sofa but I get overwhelmed with all the choice out there. Researching online does nothing for me - I need to see and sit on it. But I dislike shopping so the battered old one we have remains for now. Own worst enemy here. DH is as bad! The upside being that the fund is growing.

Big cat has just snuggled in on my lap so I'm just going to have to stay in bed for a while 💕

crivit · 30/01/2026 07:11

wanders around looking for big cocks and finds nothing

Not sure whether that's a good thing or not 🤣

I got important life admin done 🥳 Until the next bit anyway, which hopefully will be soon.

Today's most important job is to de-decorate the tree so it can get taken to the tree recycling spot (closes tomorrow)! Also need to contact my hairdresser and my boss (that's in order of importance).

WinterFrogs · 30/01/2026 07:45

Probably a good thing @crivit as you'd
only trip over it and hurt yourself ❤️

I like your meditation man @WideOpenBeaches Hibernation it is! I am certainly trying.

I must make a move, this won't do! Have a good day folks xx

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/01/2026 08:29

WideOpenBeaches · 30/01/2026 06:39

@FurForksSake and @Peridot1 Oh yes… me too. Except I no longer have a husband.
Lots of research. Lots of pondering. Make a decision……………………………………………………

Hate it.
🤣

Im just paying Jane Clayton a small fortune to send me fabric samples weekly so I can dither some more. Need 2 chairs reupholstering and I need to make a loose cover for another chair. And get a rug.

According my ‘meditation man’ this Imbolc time of year, and animals hibernating etc means that we should cut ourselves some slack and wait it out until the spring.

So it’s official.

It might be spring (here): I saw tulips already!!!!

WideOpenBeaches · 30/01/2026 08:33

Well, I have made a start on redecorating my downstairs loo, so I may be ‘on the turn’!

autumnangel · 30/01/2026 12:14

Thank you everyone, it’s lovely to be back…armed with long lists and grand plans!
@FurForksSake (love the name!) - Yes I am also terrible at making decisions but I find that I usually end going for the first option so I’m trying not to overthink things too much and just going with the one I like most and not allowing for too many other options
@WideOpenBeaches - I absolutely agree about waiting til Spring. I cannot get behind all this new year new me stuff in January. For me, this past winter has been all about hibernating and basically surviving and I think that’s how I’ll approach January from now on.

This morning I have signed up to Parkrun - that’ll be a laugh but I've signed up to do a 5k at the beginning of March so I really need to make a start. I’ve cancelled bill protector insurance with my gas & electricity company. DH must have taken it out and when I’ve taken over the account I didn’t realise. It’s not really much extra that I’ve been paying but I have sent them a strongly worded email (thanks ChatGPT!) as I was never asked / told about it and I find it all a bit unfair. I’ve also paid DH’s tax bill before the deadline tomorrow (I've known about it for weeks but at least it's done on time), emailed the letting agency about some repairs needed in the flat and I’ve also meal planned for the next few days and wrote a shopping list.
Plans for this afternoon are food shopping, walk with DB, fill up the screenwash and today’s one extra thing (cos nothing I’ve already done is even on the list) is to sort through a small set of drawers.

I do love a productive day! ❤

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 30/01/2026 12:26

Hello all

@autumnangel what an amazing list of accomplishments, well done! I hope you enjoy the walk with your B.

I had a planned win (going to the gym) and an unplanned one (finding someone to take a bag of toddler clothes and a travel potty off my hands). Meeting the electrician shortly.

We have people coming for lunch tomorrow and I need to get a head start on tidying as most of the morning is taken up with D's activities...

Peridot1 · 30/01/2026 15:56

I like your meditation man’s thinking @WideOpenBeaches. I have been lacking in motivation to do anything outdoors since about October. I think I officially went into hibernation.

Spring does feel like it’s on the way. I’ve seen some snowdrops in our wild area at the end of the drive and a few daffodils in the garden.

And I have made decisions on furniture for the living room and blinds and curtains for the kitchen and sitting area. And now DH says we need to wait until the bank account is a bit healthier. And he’s questioning my choice of neutrals for the living room furniture…..

Today has been a bitty day as I had an eye test this morning (need reading glasses) then went to PT session. Came home and had some lunch and did some laundry and then went for a blood test/wellness check at the GP. Not planning on doing much else and we are going over to the pub for dinner.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/01/2026 19:18

😭

This! 😂😂

mumofoneAloneandwell · 30/01/2026 19:17

@WideOpenBeaches i like that re the mediation man - I am trying to (finally 🙄) lose some weight before spring but all the outings and stuff I wanted to do this year can wait until spring

@WinterFrogs big hug back 🥰 thank you for bringing the big cock thread into my world 🙂‍↕️😂😂

for those who haven’t seen, it’s actually more of a long floppy cock - the kind you’d find attached to a man who just turns out to be really useless 🤭🤭

@Peridot1 glad to hear the renovation is going well - hope you’re generally okay now following the health scare? xx

@crivit well done on the life admin 🙂

@Aria999 every time I’d plan to catch up, there’d be more posts 😂 - it’s good though, keeps us on track

@SpiritOfEdna 🥰

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia thank you - it’s been a long tough old January! Hope the house bills aren’t too painful xx

yes @FurForksSake , I really do struggle with decisions as well - even the small ones 😂, why can’t I decide what to have for dinner?!

see you all in the spring ❤️❤️ xx

WideOpenBeaches · 30/01/2026 19:46

Just found the cock thread 😁

WinterFrogs · 31/01/2026 06:52

Sorry @WideOpenBeaches 😂

We too have a few early snowdrops ( or maybe not so early...?) The daffodils are getting ready too. I always think they are very brave!

I was wide awake at 5am today. I moved to the spare room where is a lovely view of trees, which are silhouetted against the sky - light sky because it's nearly full moon. Now the birds are singing away. It's lovely!

The only trouble is this room doubles as an office and I can also see some paperwork that needs dealing with.

I am reading an excellent book called The Attacking Sea, about how sea levels have fallen and risen over the last 15,000 years and the impact it has had, and the feeble attempts of humankind to control it their environment. Gripping stuff, and it appeals to my 'c'est la vie' nature.

Project paperwork here today.

I am impressed with all the achievements as always 💐

autumnangel · 31/01/2026 08:04

@WinterFrogs - Sounds like a lovely morning already

Yesterday I did the food shopping then came home to a beautiful letter from a lady who received a kidney from DH when he passed away. It was so incredibly kind of her and she had such lovely words for DH. I'll definitely write back to her and to the other recipients. I don't ever want any of them to feel guilty and I sincerely hope they are living wonderful lives and are happy. As a result I was rather emotional and spent the evening on the couch watching tv and taking it easy so nothing else got done.

Off to chub club this morning, I'm not losing any weight at a great rate (cos I eat far too much chocolate) but at least I'm not putting any on so that'll do for now. Then back to work this afternoon after a week's annual leave 😢
Today's tasks - go through the small set of drawers and write up the bin days on the calendar for the year.

Hope everyone has a lovely Saturday ❤

WinterFrogs · 31/01/2026 08:07

So much love to you @autumnangel ❤️

WideOpenBeaches · 31/01/2026 08:21

@autumnangel what a lovely thing for her to write. No wonder you felt so emotional.

Ive got to the point where I’ve set an alarm on my phone for 6pm the night before the bins go out.

It works well until I forget to turn it off on holiday. While out in western US last year I got a reminder as I was having breakfast. (I have a DC out there… otherwise I’d rather not contribute to the US economy)

I met up with an old friend yesterday in London and we went to see the Lee Miller exhibition at Tate Britain. Excellent but a huge collection of her works. Took us over 2 hours to see it all. Some very harrowing images from WWII and the concentration camps. We had an average lunch across the river with spectacular views which made up for the bill.

Then home and out again with some GFs in my local town where we had a good boogie at a pub that had a mix of local female DJs.

Im now contemplating whether to go to Zumba this morning. I am knackered, but promised 2 friends that I’d go.

(Have you guessed that my de-stress after looking after DA survivors is to dance? 🤣)

So in essence I have achieved nothing… with half a repainted downstairs loo still to do. MH is excellent though!

I find that any time of year is ideal for cutting myself some slack 😀

RunningKatie · 31/01/2026 16:53

Greetings on a soggy Saturday!
What a week, my germs were officially covid and I've taken a battering. This all meant that when the mothership went into hospital for operations 1 & 2 then the golden child had to step in as I was too germ-ridden.
I've also had a birthday, been out for a bottomless brunch, drunk an excess of cocktails and still got home by 4pm!
Quite the result really. I'm now in my pyjamas before 5 and waiting for a takeaway. Being over 50 is amazing at times. I hope everyone is ok, I'll have sobered up by tomorrow as I need to build a desk for dc2.

WinterFrogs · 31/01/2026 17:44

I reckon it was probably worth the germs to get golden child to do their bit. I did exactly the same around this time last year when mine had to take mothership mine to an appointment. I still handled the organisation mind you.
Solidarity 🫂 and i hope the birthday and the cocktails helped the recovery along

WinterFrogs · 31/01/2026 17:45

Are you 50? It is fabulous if this is new to you

RunningKatie · 31/01/2026 19:19

I don't feel a day over 42 @WinterFrogs but apparently I am. Then I calculate how long I have to work to retirement and cry.
The cocktails have helped a little!

WideOpenBeaches · 31/01/2026 22:55

That’s a cloud with a silver lining @RunningKatie Sounds like it was time for the golden child to shine 🤣

Hope you feel better soon.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/02/2026 08:21

I sorted and tidied two small bins of things while I searched for Havoc's birth cert. 😵‍💫
I then tidied a bin with lightbulbs, sponges and scrubbies and zip lock bags.
And changed a lightbulb then marked the old one with an X so I don't mix it up and put it in a box with some others old/new that I'll sort when ready to go to recycling.
Did a huge load of laundry and hung it up; folded and put away clothes; removed two more items from baby's clothing drawer to charity box I've started.

Need to register Havoc for kindergarten soon (😭) hence the search for the birth cert.

Baital · 01/02/2026 09:29

I am a great fan of lunchtime/ early afternoon celebrations, home and slippers on by 5.

I have now got a week of annual leave, which means I swap my usual gentle programme of chat and shopping expeditions (I support people who aren't fully independent and mostly need some company and encouragement and help getting out and about!) for housework and getting the garden a bit tidier...

crivit · 02/02/2026 10:38

Ah @Mumtobabyhavoc but did you find the actual birth certificate? I can muddle through drawers looking, get distracted and then forget what I was even looking for 🤣 I hope you did!

I see lots of projects done in the thread the last couple of days. I definitely count dancing and having fun as daily projects nod To be fair, dancing can help with almost anything for me.

My main tree is now down and was taken to the recycling point before they closed it, and the wreath is off the front door. I do still have some lights up on the balcony and I'm not sure how long I'll leave them there. Still in a boot with crutches, so definitely until that is all sorted.

Today's (possibly optimistic) plans

Coffee ✅️
Chair pilates ✅️
Gym
Wash bedsheets ✅️
Chair yoga
Work admin
Go through a box of random crap in a bedroom
Meal plan for the week - on my own til Friday so want easy, batch cooked stuff possible to do while not standing for long
Start putting together my spring door wreath.

SydneyCarton · 02/02/2026 11:18

Aargh, fell off the thread again!

"Out of the mouths of babes" or some such quote *^@WinterFrogs My eldest once picked up a toy dustpan and brush when we went to playgroup and bellowed "What's this Mummy?" at the top of her voice 😬

Yesterday's crappy-but-satisfying job was to clean out the gross gunky toothbrush holder. I took it apart (it has lots of little divided compartments for paste and brushes), sprayed bleach on it, scrubbed it like hell and put it back together. Even cleaned the gunk out of the toothpaste caps and the bottom of the toothbrushes.
