Hello!

New thread for when we are ready.

Happy New Year, Happy New Thread

Hello all.

Belated happy birthday @RunningKatie. Hope you have recovered from Covid. Your brunch and cocktails sounded great. And home early is always a result. We went to the pub on Friday night for dinner at 6 and even after meeting up with some neighbours after we’d eaten and ended up having a couple of drinks with them we were still home and in bed by 9.

@autumnangel - how lovely and bittersweet to receive that letter. My sister had a liver transplant two years ago and a BIL had a kidney transplant a few years prior. We are so very grateful. It is such a selfless gift.

Dreary Monday here. I’ve done some laundry and a bit of the clean of the kitchen. Desperately need to wash down all the cupboard doors. Which I’ve been saying for ages. Won’t be today though. We have a charity collection happening tomorrow so I want to get everything ready for that. Am about to clear out the hanging section of my wardrobe. Then I have an appointment with a chiropodist.

Have a great day all.

BerfyTigot · 02/02/2026 14:49

Not an exciting Monday here. Some cleaning and some admin, but not the admin task that I've been procrastinating on since before xmas. Bad bad bad

BerfyTigot · 02/02/2026 14:50

But I did well on decluttering last week- was too busy to update here!

WideOpenBeaches · 02/02/2026 18:09

Just reporting back to you lovely lot that my ‘January Job’ of painting downstairs loo is now complete.

You do realise that I’m using you lot so I’m accountable don’t you?

I wasn’t changing the colour, but wanted to swap to a drip friendly paint as the walls were covered in water marks. I chose Intelligent Matt - Sounds like a good guy to have on your pub quiz team 😆 and he’s wipe clean too

petalpower · 02/02/2026 19:05

👏 good work @WideOpenBeaches !

Giggling at this. Thw number of times i have put on here a task ( or on my list) And it still doesn't get done. But other things do so all is not lost! Well done with your decluttering!

WinterFrogs · 02/02/2026 19:10

@WideOpenBeaches such good use of this thread! Here cheering you on from the sidelines 💪

WinterFrogs · 02/02/2026 19:23

I've been extremely busy today and left a bit of chaos in my wake. It's an 'everybody fed' kind of day. I have seen two of my offspring and spoken to the others, and littlest came for tea today.
There was a recent thread about how many people you've spoken to in person that day, and I was about to say six, and then I remembered that I went into three different shops to track down a particular gadget, and that added another three people. But there have been many more on phone/email/WhatsApp so my head is very full of different conversations.

It has been productive but not projecty.

Must just get a load of clean laundry put away and prepare two sets of clothes for tomorrow.

I'm giving my dresssing table the side-eye as it really needs a bit of a declutter and a dusting. Might manage to pull myself out of my housekeeping apathy and do that.

Good plan to have a collection deadline @Peridot1

Hello @petalpower 👋 and @SydneyCarton I like your grotty job success. Well done!

petalpower · 02/02/2026 19:54

It must have been bittersweet to receive that letter @autumnangel . How amazing that your late husband was able to give others such amazing gifts after he died. He sounds a very special person (as do you too).
Hello @WinterFrogs ! I’ve been here lurking but my achievements just look so dull when written down that I haven’t been posting.
Today’s achievements have included:

  • a massive basket of ironing (where does it all come from?)
  • planning my veg garden for this year and doing an online order for seeds, onion sets and seed potatoes
  • throwing out old seed packets from the greenhouse
  • making smug soup using butternut squash that I grew last year
WideOpenBeaches · 02/02/2026 20:43

Thank you 😊
<takes a paint splattered bow>

@petalpower I like the sound of your day… gently productive.
Smug Soup’ made me laugh. I still have some leeks in my garden so I think a green tinged ‘Smug Soup’ might be on the cards here at some point.

@WinterFrogs Im wondering how many I spoke to today too. Went to a strength training class first thing so probably spoke to about 5-6 but then have had my derrière or face wedged into a wall or up against a cistern in my loo for the rest of the day.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/02/2026 20:56

Birth cert found @crivit 👌
Really don't want to reg Havoc as am having a bit of separation anxiety already. 😭
Took dc out yesterday - sushi/cake/Harry Potter Experience (again). Rain held off; tickets were a deal; merch was 50% off so bought the kids a light-up lanyard; s'mores packs were given away, so kids got to roast marshmallows for the first time; and because it was a Sunday night it wasn't busy at all, so we got to walk through slowly and take lots of pics without other people in the way. It was a perfect night, really.
Vacuumed when we got home. 🙌
This morning was school despite our late night.

@WideOpenBeaches and @petalpower smug soup made with self grown vegetables is another level of smugness... Smuggest Soup?

FurForksSake · 03/02/2026 10:05

I have just done my project for the day, I’ve booked a bupa gp appointment for tomorrow to discuss my gynae issues. It’s with a male gp as I said I didn’t mind and now I wonder if I do mind 🤣

Hopefully they’ll get me in for a quick ultrasound and to see a gynaecologist.

NHS have known about it for ages and can’t even give me a date to see the gp about it.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 03/02/2026 10:52

Today's job is to ring Companies House.

I'm hoping a RL friend might be joining us too. Sending a wave if she is lurking- yes this was the thread I was talking about!!

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 03/02/2026 11:02

I meant to say as well- @autumnangel how poignant to receive that letter. Hugs to you and your wonderful DH. Thanks

Peridot1 · 03/02/2026 11:25

Morning all.

Yet another wet grey day here. Ugh.

Waiting for the charity collection guys to arrive. I cleared out some more clothes yesterday from the long hanging bit of my wardrobe. Dresses that are way too big now. Then DH and I went through some boxes of pictures that we figure we won’t use. Got them all into a box and discovered the charity collection people don’t take pictures…. Anyway a pile of things will go.

Have a wash on. Dishwasher is emptied, reloaded and on again. I’m about to reorganise our tea/coffee cupboard so I can store vitamins/supplements etc in. Thought I had a hair appointment booked for colour and cut for tomorrow but that seems to have been messed up at the hairdressers end so waiting to hear about that. And going to start the kitchen cupboards washing down.

Have a great day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 03/02/2026 16:17

@autumnangel what a lovely, but bittersweet letter to read. @WideOpenBeaches - if you could send Intelligent Matt my way could he please go into the loft, decide what can be chucked away and do it without any input from me that would be lovely. Thank you. Who wants him after me? 😄

I am knackered. SpiritDoggo was ill in the middle of the night which needed cleaning and was then a bit restless, but full of beans today. Up at daft o'clock to do an online mat pilates class (quite nice though, did it in pajamas and with not much light).
Not much left of today for me to do actual stuff after a busy work day, but I might gather up shoes and boots and decide what needs be cleaned and an order to do them in.
First a stroppy work call before my work day ends, have a good one, SoE

I did it! I completed my admin task that I'd been procrastinating on for a couple of months. Had been weighing on me for a while. It only took about an hour!

Tomorrow's task is to ring the council as our bin has gone missing.

WinterFrogs · 03/02/2026 17:33

In the queue for Intelligent Man please and thank you. For similar reasons to @SpiritOfEdna
Hello 👋 @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia's RL friend!
Well done @BerfyTigot I've got one of those, and you are so right- it never takes as long as you think.

I haven't been in to make a mess today. Washing is caught up, dinner is ready to go (thank you past me, I prepped food for slow cooker yesterday and got it going this morning)
Great that smug soup is being adopted far and wide!

I will clean a pair of shoes this evening. "Someone's made sick mud"

Best wishes to all!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/02/2026 01:28

Washing here - large mixed load!
With all the talk of smug soup I'm now making a pot of chicken broth from the rotisserie chicken I picked up at Costco last night and made .... a smug salad! 😁
Bell pepper, tomatoes, cucumber, feta, grapes, figs, chicken and kale dressed in a dijon vinaigrette.

Daily Project Round 9
WinterFrogs · 04/02/2026 06:44

That smug salad looks lovely @Mumtobabyhavoc Also the pictures of the Harry Potter experience. I bet the kids loved it! Sorry about your separation anxiety with kindergarten 😔

I hope you had a better night last night @SpiritOfEdna Poor old doggo.

Did you get your hair appointment sorted out @Peridot1?

My first task today is to unravel the pile of paperwork I must attend to.

I hope you all have a happy and productive day 😊

WideOpenBeaches · 04/02/2026 07:02

Oh that looks delicious @Mumtobabyhavoc I’m looking forward to being able to buy some decent salad stuff in a few months time and eat bowlfuls for lunch.

What is it @BerfyTigot that makes us put stuff off for so long?…especially when an hour later, it’s all sorted and you’re thinking ‘I don’t know what all the fuss was about…’ 🙂

This morning I will mainly be F2F mentoring for the charidee. It looks like it’s finally going to be dry today so I’m going to find stuff to do outside.

Have a lovely day everyone.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 04/02/2026 07:02

Yum to smug salad!

I was on that thread where there was a discussion about grapes and strawberries in salads. Made one last night- grapes, blueberries and feta! It was lovely!

I'm making smug red lentil dhal today. It's a favourite of mine and I have all the ingredients to hand.

Also have an admin thing I need to deal with- it's proving difficult due to having to deal with a government department, and all the phone options cycle back to each other and keep going around. Grrrrrr

Peridot1 · 04/02/2026 08:12

Well done on all achievements. Funny how we put something off and then it’s not nearly as bad as we thought @BerfyTigot. I do it all the time.

I have a Matt. He’s quite intelligent. But not much good at doing stuff unfortunately.

Salad looks good @Mumtobabyhavoc. I’m looking forward to salad season. Can’t eat salads in winter.

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia - I love dhal. Must make it more often. Or at all really…..do you use a particular recipe?

@WinterFrogs - I did get my hair appointment sorted. After a fashion. A very apologetic phone call later I have an appointment for the cut at 1pm. And then the colour at 2.45. Not ideal. Might need to find a different salon. It’s too complicated where I’ve been going as they all work for themselves. And the guy who does my cut doesn’t do colour. Or book in appointments he says he will!

Today’s tasks are usual dishwasher, kitchen etc. It’s finally dry here so we are going to put framed posters up in gym, put in door mat and measure up for exercise mat. I also need to vacuum. Quick wipe around of bathrooms. I didn’t start washing down the kitchen cupboards yesterday so need to start that. Then I’m out all afternoon at hairdressers.

Have a great day all.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 04/02/2026 09:44

Dhal- the version I have 'perfected' over the years is as follows - (It's not perfected as such- just the easiest)

Sautee finely diced onion, celery, carrots, fresh ginger and garlic until soft. Add as much curry powder as you prefer- I prefer a tablespoon of mild - medium curry powder. I often add a teaspoon or turmeric also for colour. Lightly cook the powder to bring out flavours. Add red lentils and vegetable or chicken stock to cover and leave to simmer until mushy- probably need to add more water as you go along. I often add spinach as well. But I serve with fresh coriander and a squeeze of lemon and salt as I am a salt fiend.

It;'s better the next day of course!

Our dishwasher is on the blink so I need to get that sorted today. I feel flat and low and not enthusiastic about anything today!

Hope everyone has a great day!
