Winter, the picture of the stars posted is part of an awesome display. There are 4, actually, one for how the night sky looks each season. It lights up at night. Click on it and enlarge.
The kids really enjoy going and are at different stages of grasping what it's about.

Thankfully baby remains good. 😅
I put a cold pack on yesterday and as of last night bruising/swelling was minimal. Lucky.

I'm going to put the heat on so it's warm when we all get up later and then try and go back to sleep. Temp is -4c outside.

Peridot1 · 26/01/2026 09:34

Sounds chilly @Mumtobabyhavoc!

Yesterday we got the bench built for the gym so that is now in and not cluttering up the hallway. I do have three bags of books I need to sort out though. They were in the mini library in the village phone box and we cleared them out a while ago as it was way too full. Mainly of books that someone obviously was just clearing out. Old text books, out of date Lonely Planet guides etc. It all needs a proper sort out. Anyway - main task is to somehow get rid of the books in my hallway!

I also have quite a lot of stuff now for charity so might just arrange a charity collection. They might take the books too.

Other tasks today:

  • dishwasher - done
  • laundry - on
  • change DS’s bed
  • organise charity collection
  • sort though all of the various supplements etc I have acquired and start taking them
  • send some messages to friends in Australia re my trip next month
  • put laundry away
  • clean kitchen
  • towel wash

Have a great day all.

Sorry to hear about the little one's injury @Mumtobabyhavoc . They bounce (back) fairly well at that age but it doesn't stop us all worrying!

I'm feeling a little jealous about pottery kit. I used to love that at school but there's always something that stops me from starting it back up now. Mainly money, space and 98000 other things on lists.

I'm in awe of fridge cleaning, mine still needs doing but on the backburner until I can stand for longer. Having said that, my tasks for today include going to the gym 🤣 The doctor said I can do upper body weights and my trainer has put me a routine together. I also found some seated yoga I could do. Don't want to lose my fitness momentum.

  • Yoga ✅️
  • Gym
  • Language study ✅️
  • Tidy bookshelves (can mostly be done seated and leads into another task of empty some boxes and bags of books onto said shelves once someone has moved the boxes and bags next to the shelves)
  • Get work admin up to date. Technically I'm on an arrêt du travail (sick note) but the admin side should be fine and really needs doing.
FurForksSake · 26/01/2026 11:46

@crivit put it on the list to find a taster session, they are usually a morning and so much fun!

Peridot1 · 26/01/2026 12:13

I tried pottery over the summer. I was rubbish! Couldn’t get the hang of the wheel. Couldn’t remember instructions. After six weeks I ended up with a wonky Christmas tree shaped decoration……

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 26/01/2026 12:13

Poor Littlest Havoc and poor mum! So stressful when something goes wrong. Thanks Glad the bruising is going down and she is okay. xx

I got my waste cleared and the lovely people even swept up afterwards- including my porch which was a bit messy! I am definitely going to be a repeat customer.

DH is coming home tomorrow for a few days and I have made bets with the Dcs that he won't even notice. DS1 said 'to be fair I doubt I'd notice' which considering that he apparently hasn't noticed we have all had to step around broken pots, an old sink and a rusting incinerator for a week in order to get to our front door is a fair comment.

Next project-by-stealth..... get in a joiner to make new doors for our outdoor garden storage.

SpiritOfEdna · 26/01/2026 12:19

@Mumtobabyhavoc poor baby! @WinterFrogs I did pop onto the 'read what you own' thread but saw a couple of books I then wanted to buy so left pretty sharpish 😄I have finished a book it's taken me a year to read and I'm pretty sure I'll never let the words pass my eyes again. 😃I've chucked another one abandoned mid read onto my bed to read a chapter (or two) tonight. I've been letting my phone battery run down and not put it onto charge to stop the doom scrolling 😄

Today

  • bike tires need pumping up and I need to organise a service for another bike - it's the GNiece's that is here but she is way too tall for it now - she may as well sell it and get some money
  • my teams are all off for India Republic Day today so I am enjoying the peace and quiet and getting on with a load of admin without interruption - just done a long list that will take me to the end of the day
  • Requested a name change on my pension information. I use a nickname professionally and I know when it comes to accessing the pension I'll have a world of pain so will try and get it done now (like Kate/Catherine). It is actually easier to change gender/address than have a first name corrected in terms of a clear process flow.
  • I need to make a decision whether to go and see Hamnet this week as it finishes Thursday; but well, film adaptations.... I am going to a lecture on the Neuroscience of Music this week (I can sing along and know all the words to many many songs, but the second there is no music, crickets) and hope it will be interesting.
  • Just moved a plant with ChatGPT's help 😄
  • Another trip into the shed for some bits 😄
  • Just gone and fetched the dog so sibling can have coffee with friends uninterrupted by SpiritDoggo begging for snacks.
  • Will do an online pilates class later; might get the gym. Xmas weight is not shifting.
  • Coffee pods need emptying and recycling

have a good day all, SoE.

Lots of Monday morning busyness! I had an unexpected triumph at the weekend, sorted out a and rearranged a large bathroom cupboard while D was in the bath - extreme satisfying, and got rid of lots of expired meds and a couple of outgrown toddler size robes/towels.

I have a gp appointment this afternoon which requires me to be fasting since the morning and I am NOT doing well with it, so hungry and hard to focus, so not much else will be happening today. Though I should pay an invoice from the PT!

petalpower · 26/01/2026 18:04

Busy weekend with a friend’s birthday drinks, a village afternoon event which I was involved in running and a Burns Night supper at friends last night.
Today has been a bit of a catch up and re-set day as we go to visit the oldies tomorrow for a few days:

  • towels changed and washed
  • ironing done
  • glass recycling (where does it all come from?) taken
  • lemon drizzle cake made to take the PIL
  • trip to butchers to buy meat and cheese to take with us as requested last minute by MIL
  • cleaned a window that Petaldog has jumped up at and left muddy paw prints on
  • worked on a document for a charity committee I’m a trustee on
Hope everyone’s had a good day. Sorry for lack of individual mentions!
BerfyTigot · 26/01/2026 18:21

Today I accidentally cleared out a kitchen cupboard while looking for something. Easy win.

I started a much bigger project last night, tackling our room of doom, so I also got rid of some old papers.

Might get a bit more done tonight but I've already done today's project, so not promising anything.

SunnyViper · 26/01/2026 20:50

@petalpower I’m supposed to be re writing the constitution for a charity I’m involved with. I’ve procrastinated for a couple of months and the AGM is in Feb so I really need to crack on and do it😂.

Today got hijacked by an HGV that crashed into one of my trees and sent it across the road. Our road is a steep country one and not really suitable for large vehicles but someone in their wisdom is running an international distribution operation from a farm at the top of the road. If it’s not trucks getting stuck at the top, it’s trucks destroying the bridge at the bottom🙄. I ended up having to get the chainsaw out to cut the tree up as it was just too heavy to move otherwise. The saw isn’t particularly heavy but my back and shoulders are feeling it tonight so I’ve done nothing since.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/01/2026 21:01

Yikes @SunnyViper should that be an insurance claim?

Just waiting at medical appt. Doctor is currently 40mins behind, but I think I'm next. 🤞
A man just checked in and he has the same GP as me.
A lady doesn't seem to know about volume use on her phone in small spaces. 🙄
Other than that I'm just chillin'. 😎

TBH... actually seeing a GP and sitting in a waiting room is a distant memory for me where I live, but in your case with the woman who doesn't know about volumes i think I'd be shouting theatrically into my phone;

'Darren! DARREN! No, I'm still here in the waiting room!!!.... No, They suggested i don't come in because of the RASH..... [pause].... No! I want them to see it IN PERSON!!!'..... [pause].... Yes I'll tell them about Uncle Jim getting it too today!!!!! ... [pause] No, I'll be back later on the number 19 bus!!!'.

Edited

You've name me do the silent shaking laugh.

I'm now waiting in an exam room.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/01/2026 22:20

Finally done! One hour wait. But, thorough exam. Script + new referral rec'd.

WideOpenBeaches · 26/01/2026 23:00

That made me chuckle @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia . You could really get some mileage out of that with some real life scratching going on too 😁

@SunnyViper I’m in awe of your chainsaw skills. 😲 I’m a fan of slow release ibuprofen after those kind of days. Helps me not to wake up hurting… but you’re probably younger than me.

Ive had a productive day with online meditation, strength training class, then a bunch of admin. Financial, car insurance etc. Got round to making some grain mustard from a recipe I saw on Insta. I’ve made rather a lot… It now needs to sit in the fridge for a few days.

Still got a pile of laundry to iron.

And a downstairs loo to paint 😉

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/01/2026 06:09

Lobelia, just popped on to re-read your post.
Darren...Darren!!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Am actually quite impressed with my doctor appt today. It was with a Derm for a skin check. I'm fair and have had a few significant sunburns as well as being a former indoor tanning addict. So, I get my skin checked yearly, stopped tanning altogether years ago now and always cover up in sun and use spf.
I had a couple moles removed two years ago and will be getting three more removed now. Thankfully, not on my face, but I will go to a plastic surgeon this time. Instead of watch and see how/if they develop I asked to just get them removed. I'm risk adverse when it comes to my health. I also mentioned I have a stubborn plantar wart I've been getting treated at the GP''s office and the Derm was like, want me to give it a zap it for you? I was all, uhm, ok... 🫣 Turns out the "zapper" is the same liquid nitrogen the GP uses except it's in a mini blow-torch like device. 😅 He also recommended more frequent treatments, weekly, and said the protocol should be "soak, scrape and zap" and cover the spot with duct tape (had read that!). Alrighty. 😂
Guess I'll be busier now. 😂

I then did a quick shop for anti-bac hand wipes and a few other things then did a return and shop at Costco. It was a full day. Put dinner together once home and made broth for soup tomorrow. 😁

Peridot1 · 27/01/2026 16:59

Yikes to the tree @SunnyViper!

Definitely good to do the skin checks @Mumtobabyhavoc.

Hope everyone else is ok.

I am looking forward to this month being done. Between mouse-gate and our bin being stolen, the washing machine decided to start leaking at the weekend and yesterday the kettle decided to disintegrate. It’s a filter one and the plastic bit that holds the Brita filter fell apart. So new kettle. And visit from washing machine man this afternoon. And of course the machine decided not to leak! He seemed quite thorough so fingers crossed it was a blip. He did suggest it might have been too much foam so left me some washing machine cleaning stuff. I do use one but he says his is better. It was also cheaper!

No other major jobs done. Charity shop pick up arranged for next week. Went to look at new sofas and an armchair this morning with DH.

FurForksSake · 27/01/2026 17:36

@Mumtobabyhavoc your derm sounds brilliant.

my shitty job was asking for a gp appointment to discuss the growth on my cervix from my smear in September. Finally got that done. Haven’t been contacted for an appointment but assume I will get one.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/01/2026 19:27

Peridot, Forks yes, definitely try to stay on top of health. Derm was worth the long office wait. He checked me tip to tail. 😂 Gave very good advice to check scalp as he was doing it. Said ask hair dresser to take a look when combing through hair and take a pic if scalp looks odd. Said not super common, but if skin cancer is on the scalp it is later stage when found which is problematic. 😵‍💫

Well done Fork for following-up with your doctor. 👏
Peridot. Geez I hate it when everything falls apart at once. 🤦‍♀️

Baby is falling asleep on me and I can hear Havoc talking with my mum about "the old phones mummy used when she was little."

I'm making chicken soup with chicken, asparagus, corn and wontons for lunch.

WideOpenBeaches · 28/01/2026 07:06

I learnt in my meditation yesterday that this Sunday 1st Feb is called Imbolc. Apparently it marks half way between the winter solstice and the Spring Equinox… the seeds are starting to stir in the ground and it’s a sign that the earth is starting to wake up.

I quite like this whole analogy… it’s been a long month and it’s comforting to know that whatever is going on in the world, Mother Nature still keeps going.

It might also explain why my procrastination has been so bad this month 🤣

Have a good, happy and (maybe?) a productive day everyone

WideOpenBeaches · 28/01/2026 07:06

@Mumtobabyhavoc that lunch sounds delicious

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 28/01/2026 07:12

morning all.

Hope everyone is well!

I concur that your lunch sounds lovely @Mumtobabyhavoc !

I am going to horrify the DCs tonight and make 'Green eggs and Ham'. It's just frozen spinach blitzed into pancake batter, then I stuff it with a cheese and ham sauce and bake them in the oven. I have a backup plan though if required.

Have a great day everyone!

WideOpenBeaches · 28/01/2026 07:30

Cor. I love a stuffed pancake 🥰

Peridot1 · 28/01/2026 09:20

Good morning all.

Those pancakes sound delicious @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia. As does lunch @Mumtobabyhavoc.

I had heard of Imbolc @WideOpenBeaches but didn’t really know what it was. Interesting. (Flipping autocorrect tried to change Imbolc to I’m old. Cheek!)

First load of washing is on in newly cleaned washing machine. I ran the new cleaning stuff through last night and then a quick cycle with nothing in this morning and there was no foam so I think the pipes are properly clean. I remember running a a few empty cycles last year and still getting foam. Also running a cleaning cycle in dishwasher. The new cleaning stuff is called W Pro if anyone is interested. The washing machine engineer didn’t rate the Dettol one I usually use.

So today’s other tasks:

  • put DS laundry away
  • tidy his room
  • quick tidy round for cleaner
  • laundry!
  • start sorting Christmas decorations to try to condense pile of boxes to be put up into loft at the weekend
  • open up new hand weighs and stand and put in gym
  • order mat for gym

Have a great day all.
