I’m confused- has the US gone to war with them? What are the implications if so?

just a completely aside thought but if there really is to be a war on drugs by trump and stopping them at source why doesnt he stop those sticking them up their noses every day? there is only a supply because there is a demand for it. why arent users of illegal drugs dealt with? Isnt this an admission by him that he has lost the war on users?

CosmicLatte · 03/01/2026 14:22

@StandFirmreally good summary, I agree

Ohhh that is what you heard. Cute. Must be true then. Are people really this dumb?

Is there any need to be so nasty.

Maduro going is a good thing but as pp says, Trump is not acting for the benefit of ordinary Venezuelans. Plus the VP remains in place at the moment.

Oh luv. You obviously know far more than anyone else so why dont you write a comprehensive post explaining it all for us stupids?

TooBigForMyBoots · 03/01/2026 14:25

I see Putin's Operation Destroy America is still going swimmingly.

And the usual suspects are excusing an illegal oil grab because it's Trump.🙄

Welcome to 2026.

They shouldn't have to sneak. He created them so he can look after them. Just like he looks after all the other poor and/or brown people.
Yeah.

I don’t know where this idea came that you have to take in refugees from a place you attack, like, why would you want a hostile foreign column in your homeland?

So yeah they obviously aren’t gonna do that

I’m confused - does the drugs that wreak havoc in USA originate in Venezuela? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c5yqygxe41pt
bbc article about Trump’s actions

Not even close.
From NBC News:
”But drug cartels operating vessels in the Caribbean, where roughly 50% of the airstrikes have taken place, are mainly moving cocaine from South America to Europe — not to the United States, according to current and former U.S. law enforcement and military officials as well as narcotics experts. And the deadliest drug of all, fentanyl, is almost exclusively smuggled over land from Mexico, the officials and experts say.”
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna244583

This is about regime change and oil.

How fentanyl deaths are causing some grieving parents to embrace Trump

Some parents who lost children to fentanyl say Trump’s tough talk resonates, even as many experts say his policy proposals are misguided.

Looking at the quote history
MO0N · Today 13:37
So more refugees to help destabilise Europe?
it would be illogical to think that the newly captured person would be the direct reason for "more refugees" so yes, I mean the USA blowing stuff up today, not the guy who's not there anymore. I think that's what MO0N meant.

I think it's about if the country collapses into further conflict/civil war, since the VP is still in place and would seem to have the military onside.

This person is a former US military and has some interesting thoughts on this, not earth shattering, but well put together. She also lays out some interesting ties between the Venezuelan government and the cartels.

Welcome to 2026.

The prequel and sequel being Putin's Operation Destroy Europe (and the no longer part of Europe, UK). Sadly.

On those bringing up people leaving it’s already been happening

Over 7.9 million Venezuelans have left their country since 2015 due to a severe economic and humanitarian crisis, making it one of the world's largest displacement crises

There’s very little from the press, or leaders to do sanctions

Happyjoe · 03/01/2026 14:31

Trump is murdering people without justification.

He is a dangerous, greedy and insane man.

Due to what sanctions? If you google 'articles about Venezuelan refugees' you will find thousands of citations.

StandFirm · 03/01/2026 14:34

Of course, oil is a key motive here. Fresh quote from Trump right this minute: "We have the greatest oil companies in the world, the biggest, the greatest, and we’re going to be very much involved in it."

Why not read and respond to the article?

You're welcome to comment how you want, but wouldn't it be more productive to start a thread on Charlotte Clymer's transition or run along to FWR if you feel the conversation needs to be taken it in that direction? I'm certainly not interested in engaging on that.

Yes it absolutely could still continue if VP is still there and the core power structures remain. There is a long way to go for Venezuela realistically. Let’s not forget trump has not done this for the benefit of Venezuelan people.

According to news reports Maria Corina Machado has stated "We are ready to take over government"

Not sure if they have said how.

Due to
Escalating economic collapse, hyperinflation, and poverty

Shortages of food, medicine, and essential public services.

Political instability, violence, and high crime rates.

I don’t get the sanctions question, can you expand

Hard day for the hard left. Corbyn must be in tears.

PandoraSocks · 03/01/2026 14:41

In his 2019 memoir, The Threat, former Deputy Director of the FBI, Andrew McCabe, quotes Trump as saying of Venezuela "That’s the country we should be going to war with, they have all that oil and they’re right on our back door.”

So, this has been a long time coming.
