January Daily Accountability!

ThatWorthyNewt · 02/01/2026 08:38

Hi :) Is anyone interested in a thread where we post our daily to dos for January and update on what we managed to complete?

It doesn't have to be anything big, I think this is all about small steps and keeping plodding on through Jan. It's a good time to regroup and focus on what you want to do each day, with less mad dashes than December, and I need something to help me get back into the swing of things now Xmas is done. I also am quite nosy and like to see what little goals and habits people set themselves through the month...

I'll go first...today I need to:

  • Complete a work task I have been putting off
  • Go on a walk with my friend
  • Decide on what exercise classes I want to do this month and book them in

I'll update how this goes later!

Who's in?

Happy Friday everyone! We made it through first week back of work and school! Hope you're getting on okay @Eggsley @InfiniteJester @Luddite26 @Ladymuckypuddle . And how are you feeling@RobinTheCavewoman ?

Looking forward to the weekend as I've planned in a couple things with friends and partner, and can hopefully have a more relaxed list. But for today:

  • Quick house tidy up e.g. moving random crap that accumulates! + water the house plants, refill water of flowers
  • Reply to two emails I have been avoiding...
  • 3x WFH tasks
  • Meeting to attend (bit nervous about this one so hopefully it goes well!)
  • Pilates class at the gym

But first a bit of procrastination with a cup of tea!

Good morning, everybody!

Thank you, @ThatWorthyNewt for getting us through the first week post Christmas hols. It is always a tough week for me.

Yesterday I felt a bit low & didn’t want to post my misery. You’re right, @ThatWorthyNewtsometimes we just have to get on with it & do the exercise, making progress! I managed a walk yesterday morning but then not much else for the rest of the day; couple of work emails & a bit of house tidying.

This morning I’ve woken with a sense of purpose. No point wallowing! If you don’t like the situation, you have to do something right?! Otherwise just accept the doom. And I don’t want that.

So, today:
-washed & dressed before 9
-make broccoli soup in slow cooker for lunch
-meeting at 10
-meeting at 12
-work email in between
-work task 1
-work task 2
-possibly trip to supermarket
-phone bank re admin 🥱

I really suffer from the mundaneness of everyday life, and January doesn’t help! On a more positive note, I forgot I had some cash coming in yesterday and it’s covered a lot of Christmas bills!

These posts are helping me become an 😇. No booze, keeping to calorie intake, exercises, making £££. What a great boost!

JetFlight · 09/01/2026 09:05

I was meant to join on Monday but really struggled this week.
Today I have no work so I’m catching up on admin and cleaning.
today’s tasks are -
Cleaning - kitchen, living room, hallway, bathrooms
shopping for dinner today and the weekend
admin - 2 urgent tasks
making mushroom soup for lunch and after school.
trying to be healthy, fit some reading in and do some exercise

Luddite26 · 09/01/2026 10:23

Good morning. Very long day yesterday weirdly DH decided to build his flat pack cupboards in the kitchen last night so I couldn't get to the sink by the time I got everyone to bed and flopped with a coffee.
But I got the pots down and have cleaned them this morning and positioned back on the dresser so tick. We had a walk despite the cold. So tick.
Work and grandkids today so busy but back to kitchen tackling tonight that is the aim.
I need to do as a pack of sequins was found last night and are now everywhere!
Good luck everyone today.

ThatWorthyNewt · 09/01/2026 19:04

Evening all.

@InfiniteJester totally know what you mean about mundaneness being a bit depressing. Not sure what you do outside of all your everyday tasks you post here- but I always find that when I feel like that it's because I'm not doing enough little nice things. So for example, I sometimes take my laptop to cafe and do certain work tasks that are easy there with a drink, just to mix it up. Meet up with friends for a walk or have them over for a cuppa. Do a film evening with family and get special snacks in. Find a new recipe to cook. Sometimes do little things on my own like go to the library for a wander and look at lots of different things on the shelves. Set myself up a pamper evening, save tv shows i want to watch for it and put all the fairy lights on. All good to make the days feel a bit better without costing too much! Hope today has been better for you.

@JetFlight great to have you back! and @Luddite26 sounds like you have ticked off a lot today already!

My ticks for today:

  • Tidied up + changed flower water, watered house plants
  • WFH tasks done x3
  • Emails done
  • Meeting done
  • Pilates...not done ...honestly I need to stop scheduling exercise for after the work day! But I told myself if I wasn't going, then I was going to have to go for a big walk outside, so I did do that. Just couldn't face driving to the gym and all the faff. Tomorrow we try again with the gym 😂

Tomorrow:

  • Up early to do 1x WFH task (I have the type of job where you have lots of tasks you motivate yourself through and not really a traditional schedule...but different months are just busier than others. And this January is hectic. So if i have to work on the weekends I like to get up early and do anything that needs doing, so I can do other stuff during the day)
  • Going for a nice walk + coffee/lunch with friend
  • Gym - treadmill + machines- really really hoping to tick this tomorrow

But this evening- popped on the candles and lamps, going to relax and me and OH can catch up on tv together. Feel like I need to be swaddled in a giant blanket after this week, always hard to come back after Xmas. Sorry for huge essay! How's everyone else's Friday been?

Ladymuckypuddle · 09/01/2026 19:56

Hi @ThatWorthyNewt same here I really need to stop adding exercise to my list on a work day and maybe then I will get around to doing it 🤣 hope you had a lovely Pamper night last night. Love your fairy light idea. Unfortunately I've not managed any of my to do list today in all honesty I just couldn't be bothered so I read a few chapters of my book instead.

@Luddite26 sounds like things are pretty full on for you at the moment. Well done on going out for a walk in this cold weather.

My list for tomorrow is

Strip and air beds
Clean bathroom (that I've been dodging for days now)
Try and sort out my tumble dryer that isn't working great Confused

RobinTheCavewoman · 10/01/2026 12:07

Pretty much back in the land of the living. Have done some housework and been to the dentist. Still on the list:

  • post a vinted parcel
  • fresh bedding
Ladymuckypuddle · 10/01/2026 12:27

@RobinTheCavewoman glad you are feeling a bit better now. You have had a productive morning. I had a long lie, just having a cuppa then it's on to trying to fix my tumble dryer.
Have a great Saturday everyone

ThatWorthyNewt · 10/01/2026 20:45

Very quick task check in this evening, as v tired and spending time with OH this evening. Completed everything on list and had a good day but absolutely exhausted at the end of it :) It was nice for me to do something social on a weekend. Will come back tomorrow for Sunday's list. Hope everyone had a nice Saturday and found some time for relaxing and enjoyable things.

OP posts:
Ladymuckypuddle · 10/01/2026 21:46

Pleased to report completed all my to do list today. Still sticking with dry January and my daily Nutracheck. Dinner tonight was chicken fried rice using left overs (I bought one of those magical chickens 😉) my drink of choice tonight is smooth fresh orange.

On the list for tomorrow finish reading my book and get out for a long walk to blow the cobwebs away. Hope you are enjoying the weekend.

InfiniteJester · 10/01/2026 23:50

Hello hello,
I enjoyed reading all the posts. Today I was too busy doing the things on my list to even put my list up. 🤣

Took a walk (7km!), did exercises,
made soup, did laundry
had a v important discussion and went to supermarket
made more soup,
wrote a couple of important texts

tomorrow I need to do some emails 🤦🏻‍♀️

Thank you @ThatWorthyNewtfor those ideas about how to circumnavigate the mundaneness of life. They are excellent suggestions. Was meaning to find my favourite coffee shop - your post reminded me of how good it makes me feel when I work in there.

Sounds like Dry Jan is treating us all well, too. Very well done @LadymuckypuddleI had ginger beer! My bank balance looks healthier too. Hope you fixed your tumble dryer.

Onwards!

Luddite26 · 11/01/2026 07:04

Wow everyone is at least getting some motivation through this thread to get some tasks done. Thankyou for all the inspiration.
I got a bit of kitchen area cleaned and a cupboard decluttered on Friday night.
I have bought some new wax melts so I can just light A tea light when I feel like an uplift as I can't seem to get a candle these days which smells nice. These were from A company called Just Wicks I've bought from them at craft markets before but I did an online order so now have a little stash. I wasn't enjoying my home and lighting a candle was too much hassle too! So I'm pleased with my little stash looking organised in the cupboard!
A tip run Saturday morning and I'm on top of the washing at home so won't be returning to piles tonight.
Have had walks on Friday and Saturday so pleased with that.
Working 1pm Saturday till 6pm Sunday as a carer including sleep in so not at home till tonight to do anything but i intend to
Make the spare bed up as I washed it yesterday and start some decluttering in there before an early night. Get the kids nursery bags and clothes sorted for Monday morning as I keep them so we know what's what.
Overall feel more positive than this time last week even if so many things wouldn't look any different to other people. Thankyou.

ThatWorthyNewt · 11/01/2026 07:47

Happy Sunday. 10 days of these lists, good job all.

Had a nice long sleep last night, very needed.

Tasks for today:

  • Up + dressed, quick tidy of the bedroom + start the day with a washing load
  • Sort through calendar and to dos for next week
  • Meal prep some roasted veg for the week (will do this at lunchtime)
  • Gym in the afternoon
  • Got our friends over for a cuppa and some snacky food early evening - really looking forward to this.
  • Also got a text message I need to reply to that I just keep forgetting! (want to do this before lunch)
  • + another goal is to drink 2L of water, I have been so bad at drinking water recently.

Long walk today sounds lovely @Ladymuckypuddle And glad you're feeling better @RobinTheCavewoman .

Sounds like you're getting through lots @InfiniteJester + yes love to work in a coffee shop. Well done on getting your important discussion done!

@Luddite26 good luck with your work and tasks today, and maybe I'll have to treat myself to some candles or wax melts at the end of Jan if I get through posting these lists! Glad you feel more positive.

Take care and have a nice Sunday. Hope everyone does something today with friends/family/alone that makes them feel good. And Monday we go again!

RobinTheCavewoman · 11/01/2026 11:07

I've listed some stuff on olio and ordered a stash of deodorant refills, had a tidy, put a wash on and cheered DS on as he's mucking out his room! Next on the list is 'do nothing'!

Eggsley · 11/01/2026 17:22

Sorry I’ve been AWOL! Will catch up on everyone’s updates and then come back!

ThatWorthyNewt · 11/01/2026 21:59

Evening all, super quick as I need to get to sleep.

Managed to get nearly everything done today, and now exhausted! But in a nice way! Did not do washing load….so will need to put that on tomorrow's list. Tasks done:

  • Tidied our bedroom
  • Meal prepped a tray of veg and put in the fridge for the week
  • Went to gym
  • Calendar sorted
  • Message replied to
  • 2L water drank
  • Had friends over for cuppa

Tomorrow I am WFH so will have tasks related to that most of the day, so keeping it realistic. But outside of WFH I want to do:

  • An admin task
  • Walk of any length!
  • 2L of water throughout the day again

Will look through everyone's lists tomorrow evening. Love seeing everyone's updates, glad to see you back @Eggsley .

Eggsley · 11/01/2026 22:37

I’m back!
You have all been so busy and I’m miles behind you all.

@Ladymuckypuddle the bath and moisturiser sounds lovely, I very rarely take the time to do either, but I’ll add it to the self-care list. I do have fluffy socks, they are my favourite! Well done for sticking with dry January and Nutracheck.

@Luddite26 up at 4.30?! And looking after grandchildren as well?! I struggle to get up at 6 and am permanently exhausted, so I am in awe of your energy levels! I got nowhere with Flylady, I found it was too much. I am so untidy, I’m trying not to be but it’s a work in progress. I need to declutter and stop hanging on to stuff I don’t need. I love wax melts and candles, I get through loads!

@ThatWorthyNewt I am going to take your suggestion of setting timers to do cleaning and see how that goes. You are doing super well with getting out for a run. I’m still building up to that! I hope your meeting on Friday went well?

@InfiniteJester Sorry to hear you have been feeling a bit low, I hope you are feeling better now? It sounds like you are smashing January tbh, so you have a lot to feel pleased with! I am trying to build in a bit more self-care this year to make sure I am not running on empty all the time.

Hi @JetFlight I hope this week is better for you. I have struggled to stay focused on all the things I need to do, I think I might need to write a physical list out instead of keeping it on my phone.

@RobinTheCavewoman glad to hear you are feeling better, you have done great considering you haven’t been well.

Thursday and Friday was mostly just work for me, it’s really busy at the moment but I managed to get one big thing done which has been taking up loads of my time. I did get to DS2’s football training on Friday night so got some fresh air - it was freezing!

Saturday I had a massive lie in as DS2s football match was cancelled. We had a lovely lazy day which was much needed after a manic week back to work and school.

Today I was up at 6, sorted the recycling out, took the dog out, emptied the dishwasher, chilled with DS2 for a bit, then we finally got round to sorting out DH’s car, we jumped started it from my car, then he drove it to the next town and I followed just in case it broke down, but all was ok, so hopefully it will be ok now. Then went to drop my dad’s jump leads back and popped in for a cup of tea, home to cook dinner, DS2 bath and bed, shopping list for tomorrow, switched DH’s mobile phone to a new provider which is more data for much cheaper, switched my data plan to a cheaper one and have spent the evening looking for a better broadband deal - we are trying to save a bit more money where we can as everything is so expensive now.

This post is so long, well done if you’ve made it to the end 😂 I’ll do another post with tomorrow’s list!

Eggsley · 11/01/2026 23:00

Tomorrow’s list:
~ 2L water
~ book vet appointment for dog (checkup and jabs)
~ call broadband company to switch deal
~ remember to take supplements
~ 30 mins on treadmill
~ book service and MOT for DH’s car
~ book DS1’s haircut
~ bed by 10pm, lights out by 10.30pm

plus the usual - work, make packed lunches, make dinner, do DS2’s spellings with him, hoover downstairs.

Wishing everyone a productive Monday!

InfiniteJester · 12/01/2026 07:27

Good morning everyone! Great to see your lists. I thought I would be the first to post this morning, but can see @Eggsley and @ThatWorthyNewt that you have been more organised than I am.

Not sure what happened yesterday, I did my daily walk and a few tasks (change sheets, laundry, emails, speak with DCs away) then a drive & coffee in the afternoon (no work!). It was kind of pleasant but a bit lonely.

Your Sundays went well, it seems! @ThatWorthyNewt those broadband type jobs can take so long to research. Great that you sorted your DH's car, too! Wow, you sound like Wonderwoman! @Eggsley spellings and haircuts... I remember having this when my DCs were smaller! The home admin takes up so much time, it's amazing how more freedom there is once they are bigger and sort their own haircuts! I love your list, think I want to live in your house.

Today I am also wfh today but might go in to use the printer at work. Hmm I need to get my printer fixed.

I got up super early so have done a bunch of tasks already:

  • food bin & normal bin — DONE
  • wash floor — DONE
  • laundry & dishwasher — DONE
  • walk & abs
  • group 1 work
  • group 2 work
  • print documents
  • go back to group 1
  • go back to group 2
  • prepare slides for a presentation

I need some other stuff. I'm supposed to be tackling a very long task with a March deadline but I have zero motivation right now.

Happy Monday, everyone!

JetFlight · 12/01/2026 18:31

@Eggsleythanks but this morning started off terribly with road closures, police incidents, let’s for meetings, looking terrible in my zoom meeting because I didn’t get time to wash my hair beforehand. Who am I kidding trying to get organised?
I’ll try again tomorrow….😅

Luddite26 · 12/01/2026 21:26

@Eggsley I'm lifelong untidy and no good with Flylady either. But keep trying to improve!
Had a productive enough day. A quick fly past the tip on the way to Sainsbury's.
Our tip has a container which you can put things in which can be passed on or sold on so I took a few items from the back bedroom mostly which I had been given which I am not going to use so a small tick but every item out is better than a pile.
Trying this week to put things away. Awful habit of taking clean washing upstairs and leaving it in piles for example so had a little laundry sorted this morning and I'm really going to try that this week putting things away!
Went to bed at 8.30 last night and felt so much better. So going to get up soon a little later than desired.
No extras tomorrow as busy on an outdoor trip. But accountability is definitely helping.

Found a lady on YouTube that I haven't listened to before about decluttering
Diane in Denmark. Don't know if any one has come across her? I'm dipping in a bit just like to listen in the car lol.
Good luck for Tuesday everyone.

Eggsley · 12/01/2026 21:56

Evening all,

I’ve managed about 1.5 litres of water plus countless cups of tea and 2 coke zeros so I’m putting it down as hitting two litres for today.
Vet appointment booked, supplements all remembered, DS1s haircut booked, hoovered downstairs and practised DS2’s spellings with him. Tried to book car service and MOT but couldn’t get through to garage so will try again tomorrow. Couldn’t face the broadband people today, so hopefully will tomorrow. Only just sat down to chill, so no time for treadmill tonight but I did get out for a walk round the block at lunchtime so it’s a start. Got into work early as well, I feel like it’s been quite a productive day!

@InfiniteJester you started off really well, I hope you managed to keep going and get the work stuff done, you’ll feel so much better when it’s started!

@JetFlight oh dear, not the best start to a Monday at all. Stuff like that first thing can throw the whole day out and then you feel all over the place. Tomorrow is a new day so fingers crossed it starts off better!

@Luddite26 oh me too, I just can’t keep anything tidy. It’s organised chaos though, as I generally know where everything is. DH is the complete opposite of me, extremely tidy but can’t remember where he’s put anything, which drives me mad. My untidiness drives him mad too. I do try, but I find it overwhelming and then get distracted. Plus I struggle to get rid of stuff whereas DH will chuck it out if it’s not nailed down.

How has your day been @ThatWorthyNewt?

Tomorrow I need to:
~ call broadband people
~ book car service and MOT
~ do some admin for the football club I volunteer for
~ take DS1 for his haircut after work
~ walk at lunchtime
~ try to tidy away/declutter 5 items

plus the usual work, packed lunches, dinner, DS2’s spellings, nag DS1 to get maths and science homework done. Might try and start the book I’ve been meaning to start for about 6 months as well!

Hope everyone has had a productive day today and wishing you all a happy Tuesday when it gets here!

ThatWorthyNewt · 12/01/2026 22:00

Evening all. Didn't really want to post this evening as just one of those long Mondays! But going to celebrate what I did do rather than didn't and keep up the routine of posting. I did actually have a productive day, just think I'm overtired now! I did manage to do my work tasks, drink my water and do my admin task. No walk after work...again keep putting my exercise after work and then not doing it... but it's just hard isn't when you're busy throughout the day?!

@InfiniteJester I won't be taking the credit for @Eggsley car sorting out and broadband! 😂 Hope you managed to tackle the rest of your list though @InfiniteJester

@Eggsley yes meeting went better than expected thank you :) and looks like you had a productive weekend and great to see your list for today.

@Luddite26 well done on tip trip 👏

Will be back tomorrow! After a good sleep tonight!

OP posts:
ThatWorthyNewt · 12/01/2026 22:05

Also @JetFlight know how you feel, everyone has those days! But tomorrow hopefully you can try again and keep just trying what you didn't manage to do the day before!

Ladymuckypuddle · 12/01/2026 23:33

Evening all Grin
Ticked off my last list and onto a new book. Read Brideshead revisited for the first time, I have watched the two tv ones and enjoyed them, after reading the book though my love affair with Charlie's Ryder is over. New book is Lady Chatterleys lover seen the film never read the book before. Not sure if I will like it or not after finding out it was written by a man will give it a fair chance anyway.Today's list was have a quick look around the house to see if anything was for the charity shop so far have 4 Aldi bags full of stuff and sort out my jars of spices which have been driving me nuts! Lucky for me when I popped into Aldi tonight for bread and milk I noticed they had 2 little baskets for £3 so I popped them in my basket and now my little jars of herbs/spices are all co ordinated and easy to find rather than having to pull every fing jar out looking for the one I actually need!

Tomorrow's list
Go for a minimum half an hour walk
Sort out my towels and linen - see what ones need binned etc.
Finish cleaning my make up brushes. I put them in the sink with hot water and brush cleaning stuff it didn't work great so I've put in fresh hot water and a bit of fairy hopefully they will be fine tomorrow.

Will catch up with the thread. Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone Grin
