January Daily Accountability!

ThatWorthyNewt · 02/01/2026 08:38

Hi :) Is anyone interested in a thread where we post our daily to dos for January and update on what we managed to complete?

It doesn't have to be anything big, I think this is all about small steps and keeping plodding on through Jan. It's a good time to regroup and focus on what you want to do each day, with less mad dashes than December, and I need something to help me get back into the swing of things now Xmas is done. I also am quite nosy and like to see what little goals and habits people set themselves through the month...

I'll go first...today I need to:

  • Complete a work task I have been putting off
  • Go on a walk with my friend
  • Decide on what exercise classes I want to do this month and book them in

I'll update how this goes later!

Who's in?

Morning all and welcome to @HolyMoly24and @Ladymuckypuddle

I was up at 6.05 so feeling proud of myself this morning, although I think the extra time gained will be spent scraping ice off my car, it’s freezing here this morning.

Hope everyone has a great day!

RobinTheCavewoman · 05/01/2026 06:42

A gentle return to work and logging off if I feel ill - my focus is my recovery. I'm usually terrible at taking things slowly so trying to find the lesson in this!

Paying a frustrating bill (one where you grt sent round in circles and block yourself from the site - and I'm usually pretty savvy!).

Get a wash on.

HolyMoly24 · 05/01/2026 08:33

Morning all on this snowy Monday morning!

Today I want to:
Do some planning for work for the month ahead
Drink my water bottle x 2 (I’m awful for not drinking water)
Clear the sideboard surface downstairs, random junk has accumulated there
Order a 1st birthday present for friends son

Got the back to work Monday blues but I’m sure it’ll be fine once I get started.

TeamToeBeans · 05/01/2026 09:36

Morning all. I did get the fish tank done yesterday, but it took longer than expected as there was a problem with the filter and it took me a while to figure out what was wrong.

I’m back at work today but did a 15 minute exercise routine first thing, and washed a few pots remaining from last night.

Tonight I’ll be making sure all the pots are done and the kitchen is tidy, before I settle down with my book. I have fallen into a habit of leaving the pots, and it makes the kitchen look such a mess.

ThatWorthyNewt · 05/01/2026 17:39

Evening everyone, hope people's first day back at work was okay + that tasks are getting ticked off. Nice to see everyone's lists as usual. My work day was a lot better than expected, I think the thought of things is often a lot worse than reality, so hope you are all surviving! In terms of my to-dos:

✅After work finished, I worked on the work task I need to get done! more work after work i know 😂I keep thinking I will finish it and then not quite....but I'm going to have to soon....maybe tomorrow....at least I did some...
✅Did my 30 mins exercise. Exercise today was 10k steps on commute and lunch break, because too icy for really much of anything else outdoors in my books !

Now to get prepped for tomorrow + relax this evening :) Will post my to-dos tomorrow morning as I think I prefer doing those each morning.

Respect to you @RobinTheCavewoman for keeping going with a bill because I honestly explode at such things !

I’m pleased that I managed to stick to my low-carb food plans for today. I cleaned up and did the pots after dinner, so I’ll wake up to a tidy kitchen tomorrow, and I’m having my first alcohol free day since mid-November some time, which also means I’ll get to bed at a decent time.

InfiniteJester · 06/01/2026 05:48

Well done to all of us for yesterday @ThatWorthyNewtand everyone. Glad work was ok. Agree, the return to work sounds worse than it is. RESPECT to all, some very nightly tasks getting done! Love these lists.

I forgot to post yesterday morning, but I did:

  • work
  • BIG admin task that I’ve put off for a very long time
  • orgabised my DCs & gave them attention

Doesn’t sound like much, but amazing to clear that admin task. It involved making 2 phone calls and the offices only opened yesterday. I set my alarm to remember through Christmas. Today:

  • Car to garage
  • 5 km walk
  • Abs exercises
  • work meeting
  • work email
  • organise work things for next work meeting
  • pick up car

An extra large Flowers for those of us on diets and/or avoiding alcohol. Nearly a week in and the weight is coming off my face. Just in time for work! Also, my bank balance is doing well (paying things off) as I’m eating down the freezer. Win-win!

Good luck today, everyone!

InfiniteJester · 06/01/2026 05:58
  • walk, not work, but that too!

My bullet points come up as “2002” and wrote over my text. Will have to report that sometime.

ThatWorthyNewt · 06/01/2026 06:49

Hello everyone. Great to see your list @InfiniteJester this morning. Quick post for today's list:

  • Sort calendar for the rest of the week with tasks, events and to dos (want to put some nice social things in at some point, or something fun this weekend !)
  • Spin class at gym (my main goal to do this as I haven't done much high intensity exercise over Xmas and feeling a bit unfit)
  • Working on big task for work when I get home from my work day

Have a good Tuesday everyone. 6 days into January already just shows how quickly a year goes and how useful it is to take it day by day :)

OP posts:
ThatWorthyNewt · 06/01/2026 19:10

Good evening all. Exhausted this evening after work day + to dos , so quick post. Managed to do the bits I wanted:

  • Went to spin class at the gym
  • Organised calendar for rest of week with events etc.
  • Did a little on task after work but not much

Now to chat with family, tidy up house a bit and do washing up before me and partner vegetate on the sofa...hope everyone is managing okay with their Tuesday :) Life feels very busy at the minute so evenings are the chance I get to just be for a bit. Look forward to hearing how everyone is.

Good evening all, yesterday started off quite well and then became a bit of a disaster as DH’s car wouldn’t start so he was marooned at home all day. When I got home we needed to do the food shop as we didn’t have anything in, so all my plans went to pot as we didn’t get home til late and then needed to cook dinner and sort DC. I also managed to knock a pint of water over all over the sofa and living room floor, then DS2 inexplicably put his hand on top of a heater and burnt himself. I’ve had better Mondays. DS2 smashed his spelling test though, so our practising paid off!

Today’s list was much the same as yesterday’s, but I haven’t done much of it. I was pretty stressed out by the end of yesterday, so am taking this evening to read some of my book and get an early night.

Tomorrow’s list:
~ drink 2 litres of water. I’m managing 1.2 litres a day at the moment, so need to increase that.
~ supplements - have remembered to take 3/4 but keep forgetting the last one.
~ walk or treadmill
~ try to sort out DH’s car, the battery is flat but have borrowed some jump leads from a friend.
~ book dog into vets for check up and jabs
~ book car service and MOT

Hope you are feeling better @RobinTheCavewoman?

Well done everyone for keeping going and getting those lists done! I will be starting healthier eating in Feb, as have my birthday and wedding anniversary in Jan, so it’s definitely not the time for me to start a diet or go alcohol-free 😂

Ladymuckypuddle · 06/01/2026 23:05

Forgot to post my list yesterday Hmm which was sort out my pj drawer, go for a hours walk and make a stew in the slow cooker for dinner. Pleased to report I've completed both lists for the past few days so that's a win.

Tomorrow's list is sort out house insurance which is due a renewal this month, give my poor feet a pedicure the skin on my feet is hard they look horrible hopefully sorting them out over the dark nights will give me lovely Summer feet Grin and do some sort of exercise in the same vain as my feet 🤣 still plodding along and doing fine with Nutracheck and dry January. Well done everyone on those fab lists! You are all keeping me motivated during the January blues Grin

ThatWorthyNewt · 07/01/2026 07:23

Sorry to hear about your frustrating couple of days @Eggsley but well done to your DS on his spellings, I'm happy to hear that went well! I like your idea @Ladymuckypuddle to put the effort in through winter in time for summer! Big respect for dry january.

At work longer today so keeping list simple, plus feeling pretty tired/can't be bothered as my period is due:

  • Tidy up our bedroom and put clean washing away
  • Run outside
  • Make a nice dinner and meal prep multiple portions for next few days

First week of 2026 is up! Going to look over my january goals this evening and see how I'm doing on them. Have a nice Wednesday everyone. 🍀

  • just remembered an admin task I need to get done as well ! So I'll add that to the list 😅

Good morning!
I’m back to being a bit unstructured. These are the parts of my job when I’d be normally wfh.

Today, I’ve already sent completed work documents and sent a work email, have an online meeting later today.

No formal structure to today, hope to:

  • walk
  • abs exercises
  • more life admin
  • look at presentation for later this month

That’s it! I could do more but want to rest while I can.

Loving reading everyone’s lists on here! I’m finding this thread helpful for eating more healthily and keeping to financial goals, too!

Luddite26 · 07/01/2026 08:46

We got out for a short walk yesterday but the cold curtailed it a little but at least we did.
Also tidied the living room to move the settee away from the radiator.
So plans for today. Get everyone out for a walk again priority over anything.
And this evening have enough energy to tackle the kitchen for a bit of a clean.
Would like to start putting the kitchen to bed as always recommended by tidy folk but will start today with this step.
Good luck everyone.

ThatWorthyNewt · 07/01/2026 19:51

How's everyone's days gone? Clocking in to say after work I:

  • Did not complete run...not going to go into one million excuses as to why and just try again tomorrow.
  • Completed admin task- was just one of those quick ones you put off for absolutely no reason!
  • Meal prepped
  • Tidied up and dealt with pile of doom (clothes) in our bedroom- everything feels a lot fresher in there now.

As I said, didn't complete everything, but I'm happy with that today and it's really helpful for me to think I can just do another list tomorrow and keep going!

I'm not a naturally tidy person either @Luddite26 so sounds like a great goal to put kitchen to bed! and love the idea of a family walk. Glad you find this thread helpful @InfiniteJester - me too! My January goals were lots of different tasks I'd like to complete and checking over them, I've been making good headway on these because of these daily lists.

OP posts:
Eggsley · 07/01/2026 20:34

Evening all,

Well done for ticking things off your lists, the accountability is definitely helping me to try to keep a bit more focused. I am also not a tidy person @Luddite26so I like the kitchen idea. I have definitely been more proactive about tidying it in an evening this last week.

List has been a bit chaotic today, I’ve got lots done but none of it was really on the list. Maybe I’ll add it so that I can have the satisfaction of ticking it off 😂

Was up at 6am, had a half day at work so took elderly dad to his hospital appointment 35 miles away (he’s gearing up for a big op in a couple of weeks time so I am his taxi service at the moment). Couldn’t go in with him so managed a maccies toffee latte in the car park whilst I waited, so that’s my bit of self care for the day (and it was free as I used my points, so it tasted even better!). Then put the parents’ Christmas decorations away in the loft as they can’t manage it anymore. Then went to the community larder this evening and managed to stock up on loads of food all for a tenner. If you have one nearby, I highly recommend using it - I thought ours was a food bank so we had never been until recently, but the idea is to stop short dated stuff going to waste, so it’s open for anyone to use. Ours has so much stuff and all the fruit, veg and bread is free. We’ve definitely been much better at making sure stuff doesn’t go to waste since we started using it. Also made dinner and tidied up the kitchen. Ordered some jump leads so we can hopefully sort out DH’s car tomorrow!

Tomorrow I need to do all the admin things I didn’t do today!

Eggsley · 07/01/2026 20:42

@Ladymuckypuddle I love the idea of sorting out feet ready for the summer, I shall add that to my list of self-care things. My poor feet are usually hidden beneath several layers of socks from September to July, with a brief airing only when there is a heatwave. I am always cold, and I cannot bear having cold feet.

Thanks @ThatWorthyNewt, DS was over the moon at passing first time. Onto the next lot now!

I'm also enjoying reading everyone’s lists and progress @InfiniteJester and @ThatWorthyNewt plus with the support on this thread I’m finding it easier to pick up where I left off the next day, rather than beat myself up for not getting things done.

Wishing everyone a productive day tomorrow!

Ladymuckypuddle · 07/01/2026 22:27

How quickly has today went! Work was busy ended up getting home later tonight than planned. Unfortunately didn't manage my pedicure or any exercise so will move them both to tomorrow's list and will add cleaning the bathroom. However to help de stress tonight I had a lovely long hot bubble bath listening to a radio play , body brushed before my bath, shaved my legs and detoxed my hair. Got all dried off and covered myself in body lotion. Whilst watching the Traitors tonight I put on my hand cream and then before bed I put on my eye cream and face cream.

@Eggsley the socks are understandable if you feel the cold. Do you have fluffy socks you could put on after you have done your pedicure make it a extra bit of a Pamper for you. Sounds like you have had a very busy day hopefully your DH car is fine tomorrow.

@ThatWorthyNewt thank you hopefully all the extra water I am drinking is doing me good. Thank you for the tip on if you don't get something done just move it to tomorrow makes perfect sense and I've just put it into action 🤣

@InfiniteJester @Luddite26 thank you both for the reminders re walking and finances both things I need to start doing more of.

Thanks again everyone for all your amazing motivation 😊

Luddite26 · 08/01/2026 07:22

We got out for a walk morning was more productive than the afternoon although I had a video call with dd2 who is not great at the moment and hadn't got a job she was really hoping to get. Glad to get the chance to talk it through but it changed the course of the day. Got back home after 8pm tidied the den away that we had out in the living room. Cleaned the microwave and soap dish (it needed a good buff!), emptied dishwasher restacked. Too tired to do any more but didn't get to bed till well after 10.
Up at 4.30 managed to transfer clothes to dryer and put a couple of blankets which I need to donate to theatre group this afternoon set off dishwasher before I left the house at 5.15. have got a small shop coming this morning to try and combat running in and out of Tesco express.
I listen to YouTube videos all the time to try and get inspiration for tidying etc but just always feel overtired and overwhelmed.
Before the pandemic DH and I tidied the house together for a couple of hours every week before his sister came for tea. But since then we don't and our lives changed I look after grandchildren every day which isn't a problem at all but I have lots of stuff for them and we play loads. So I keep on top of washing etc but we don't do the good tidy up we used to and I get tired as the days are long - getting through all fed and nourished is more important than tidyness right now and supporting adult DC so they can work long hours is priority to me. It's just when we used to tidy and clean together it worked the best I had ever been!

I haven't many hopes or expectations for today as we are busy and the kids are sleeping over tonight so going to just keep the kitchen decluttering in sight. Trying to keep the table clear to go from doing things to eating quite easily sometimes it's move things to one side to put plates down!
And I should bring down some pots which go on the dresser that have been upstairs because of Christmas decorations but I got them away on Sunday so that would be a good ticking task for today and would clear my bedroom windowsill.
Good luck everyone else. I am trying not to feel shame at my untidiness now so this thread is helping me speak the truth thankyou.

Luddite26 · 08/01/2026 07:41

PS if anyone is familiar with Flylady the first step is cleaning the kitchen sink and shining it up. So I'm going to do that today. It is clean but I think she means clean and clear of pots.
I've never got any further than that on Flylady tbh.

ThatWorthyNewt · 08/01/2026 07:45

Morning everyone. WFH day for me so enjoying sitting down with of cup of tea and reading this thread!

@Luddite26 there is absolutely no shame in not having a tidy house!, it isn't always easy and it sounds like you are a wonderful grandparent and parent to be helping out so much (and that's more important!). I wonder if it would help you to do 15 mins a day with a timer on in one room? Then you can keep on top of washing, dishwasher etc. everyday and then do 15 mins each day doing the deep clean jobs so giving surfaces a dust, giving sink a good scrub etc. Anything you don't do in that 15 minutes, just go again the next day for 15 mins? Just a suggestion, appreciate it must be so difficult with grandchildren running around.

My to-dos for today are:

  • Tidy living room up this morning before I get ready for the day
  • Complete WFH work task x2
  • Run (Round two of tackling this task! I have a route I like so I'd like to do 2x loops of that)

Hope everyone has a good Thursday! Good luck.

OP posts:
Luddite26 · 08/01/2026 07:49

Thankyou @ThatWorthyNewt I will give the timer a go today. I used Alexa a lot for timers so it is an easy thing to do!
Have a good day.

ThatWorthyNewt · 08/01/2026 17:58

Evening everyone. Had a very productive day today-

  • Managed to run before the storm came in! (definitely shows that if you don't manage to do something one day, just try again the next and keep making progress and I love seeing everyone on here doing that too!)
  • Completed the 2x WFH tasks
  • Tided up the living room before I went for run

Felt good to get out and exercise and do my tidying today. I know tomorrow is going be another busy one so I'm going try to relax this evening. Work was good but feeling a bit tense from frantically trying to complete tasks for people today!

Hope everyone's getting on okay. Your destress routine sounds lovely @Ladymuckypuddle and I think I'll go off and do something very similar. I love that feeling when you're all moisturised and clean 😂
