December2025 · 25/12/2025 16:50

Not tonight I don't think only because I can't be bothered my mum died on 23rd December 2 days ago I can't be bothered to even switch them on.
They will be down as soon as I can be bothered.

I never put one up.

I know a few people that take their trees and decs down when the kids are in bed.

I know a few that have done it duing the day they are the ones that dont do xmas any more.

Edited

Even as kids Boxing Day was still very much part of the festivities. We’d have felt sad if the tree was down by Boxing Day morning.

I'm so edgy I took mine down first thing this morning.

ImWearingPantaloons · 25/12/2025 16:52

Way too soon to take it down!!!

DontGoJasonWaterfalls · 25/12/2025 16:53

We take ours down in the evening on New Year's Eve. That way we get another week of lovely twinkliness after Christmas day itself, but go into the new year with a lovely fresh clean house 😊

It's been up since mid-November. I'm not bored of it at all, I just love waking up New Years Day with the house all back to normal 😊

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/12/2025 16:53

I realise some people don’t want the decorations up after Christmas - I like to leave mine up until Twelfth Night, but each to their own - but why make extra work on Christmas Day?

So sorry for your loss Flowers

Angelswatchingoverme · 25/12/2025 16:55

How ridiculous 🙄 Would you take your birthday cards down before it had even ended?

MrsMoastyToasty · 25/12/2025 16:55

I normally take ours down on the morning of 27th December while DH is at work because I like the idea that Christmas is over and his birthday can start. However this year he will not be working.

tothewindow25 · 25/12/2025 16:43

This is interesting.

I much, much prefer the idea of the 12 days of Christmas and Christmas Day being the start of the festivities. Im not religious though so have never really been around people who view it this way, does it tend to be quite devout Christians who do it this way?

I have young kids so unfortunately we get dragged into a lot of festivities all through December, putting us more in the second camp.

But either way, taking the tree down on Christmas Day is absurd and very much indicates that you put it up far too soon.

We do the 12 days, we aren't devout Christians, but is how we always did it.

I also can't cope with school terms and Christmas hype so for me it makes sense to be as low key as possible until term ends.

Then enjoy the two week break, before decorations coming down signifies the new term.

AmberLynn1536 · 25/12/2025 16:57

I said on here earlier in the year there will be some poster desperate to be the first on mumsnet to take their tree down on Christmas Day and here we are, it’s like the competitive who keeps their windows open for longer threads, or who washes their towels most frequently threads, why is so much on here so ridiculously competitive about the most innocuous things, it’s ridiculous.

I am so sorry. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time x

SoInLuv · 25/12/2025 16:58

Lol...definitely not us. It stays until like 6th of January.

Topseyt123 · 25/12/2025 16:59

No! I'll take it down on either New Year's Eve or New Year's Day.

I don't put it up until a week or so before Christmas.

Cherrysherbet · 25/12/2025 16:20

Ours comes down on 12th night. Definitely it before. Why are people in so much of a rush to move onto the next thing now?

It’s the ridiculous “influencer” mentality, can never enjoy the moment, always looking for the next thing and wishing the year away.

ItsFridayIminLoveJS · 25/12/2025 17:01

My daughter is.. because it's Grandaughters birthday tomorrow.. so birthday decorations will be going up.
But mine is staying up until 2nd January after New Year.. I'm having surgery so won't beable to take down any later.

Miranda65 · 25/12/2025 17:06

Why? Today is only the first day of twelve.
Maybe some people might learn that it is Advent for most of December, and not put their trees up in November.

I’ve just been gifted some lovely Swarovski Christmas decs. I’ve put them straight on the tree, and plan on keeping it up until Twelfth night.

These sound beautiful! Picture please!

Its both in my country. Christmas starts as early as late November, with numerous Pikku Joulu (Little Christmas) parties to go to and doesn't end until the 6th of Jan, which is a public holiday (schools never start back until the 7th at the earliest). The 6th of Jan ending being a religious tradition, and the Christmas parties being a rather more raucous secular tradition.

Madness in my opinion

TinselTitts · 25/12/2025 17:13

I think the OP just wanted to be the first to start the thread.

It's normally a Boxing Day thread.

soccermum10 · 25/12/2025 17:14

No way! Ours will stay up until the 2nd January 🎄

AllTheChaos · 25/12/2025 17:14

Blinking heck, mine’s only been up two days! If I disliked Christmas that much I wouldn’t bother having one.

wishIwasonholiday10 · 25/12/2025 17:14

I usually take it down just before we go back to work but this year it’s coming down on Boxing Day as it’s a real one and pretty much dead. I think we put it up a bit earlier than normal this year.
