My 15 yr old is sleeping outside....

... in a hammock tonight 😂

He can't decide whether to hang his stocking up next to his hammock or leave it in his room. He'd bloody better choose his room as Father Christmas doesn't fancy trekking down to the end of the garden to deliver gifts.

(He isn't alone, his dad is out there with him in his own hammock, the pair of mad bastards Xmas Grin )

Yeah, he has some learning differences so enjoys things for a bit longer than most kids Xmas Smile

Very glad it's cheered so many people, I just came here to share my mild bewilderment at their idea of a good time! But I think this is firmly cemented as an annual things for DS now, he is fizzing over how much he enjoyed it.

That’s so sweet! Glad he had a great night!

Piggywaspushed · 25/12/2025 07:41

My 21 year old DS still sits and watches The Snowman with me every year followed by a whole family viewing of Home Alone. Nothing wrong with a nostalgic Christmas film.

I came home from work and watched Santa claus the movie on itv which was my fave xmas movie as a kid… i’m 46!
Plenty of teens i work with enjoy xmas nostalgia and films.

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/12/2025 07:51

My teenage grandsons will watch that kind of film. It's nostalgia

bluevelvetbox · 25/12/2025 07:52

I agree. Best Christmas thread. What a brilliant experience for them.

MerryAndBrightLaLaLa · 25/12/2025 07:54

It’s freezing!🥶

golemmings · 25/12/2025 07:55

Glad he had a good night.

Stocking location is interesting.

Santa went into 16yos room last night. They sat bolt upright and glared. Santa asked where the stocking should be left and was told by the fire of course.
Stockings have always been left on beds previously. But never mind. Santa was very accommodating. Teen will have to get up in the morning, go downstairs and bring it back upstairs to open it. But that's their choice.

Glittertwins · 25/12/2025 07:56

I’ve just read the post about the base layer thermals and the elf onesie 😆
The pair of them are nutters, certainly a Christmas Eve/Day to remember. Have a lovely day once DP has woken up and thawed out!

itsobviousright · 25/12/2025 08:01

Well this is delightfully wholesome - Merry Xmas to and your lovely boy (and your dh!)

Lavender14 · 25/12/2025 08:04

Amazing op I was waiting to see how they got on! So glad it was a success!! Happy Christmas, what a lovely note to start the day on!

Pashazade · 25/12/2025 08:05

That’s fabulous, Merry a Christmas!

ArtfulTaupeGoose · 25/12/2025 08:09

Absolutely love this, what a great relationship it sounds like you and OH have.
Lovely wholesome Christmas eve, that'll be remembered. So much nicer than "my child has 3000 presents stories"!

Cnon · 25/12/2025 08:10

Merry Christmas!

Copperas · 25/12/2025 08:14

What a lovely thing to do!

marmitegirl01 · 25/12/2025 08:16

This is SO wonderful. I came back on to see how long they lasted. So lovely to read about a dad who is interested in spending time with their young person doing some they are interested in together. There’s so many threads about dads who do nothing - especially the one where the dad wanted a quiet day on their own today!!
Anyway have a wonderful day all together. Please keep us updated of new adventures!! ( especially if you give it a try 🤣)

Hammock underblankets for anyone interested 🔥

Is it suitable for DS's too though?

The night sky is beautiful on a winters night in Wales ⭐

To be fair, the night sky is beautiful and clear (and you can see the milky way, as the OP said she could,) pretty much anywhere in the world where there's very little artificial lighting. Including plenty of places in the UK.

We have beautiful skies in the rural area we live in, in England. (20 miles from the closest city, 3 miles from the nearest main A or B road.) And it depends where you are in Wales too. Not all parts would have clear skies as some places have artificial lighting.

@CapybarasAreJustGuineaBigs No way I would have let my kids sleep outside, especially with it being minus 3C, with a windchill minus 6C like it was last night. I don't care how much they are 'wrapped up..'

CapybarasAreJustGuineaBigs · 24/12/2025 18:59

We are in fucking Wales 😂

🤣🤣
oh dear!
hopefully you haven’t got the wind that we’ve got across the water in Devon!

Gentlesquids · 25/12/2025 08:32

what a wonderful memory for them both 🥰

with a touch of frostbite

IidentifyastheGrinch · 25/12/2025 08:34

Hats off to your son and his dad @CapybarasAreJustGuineaBigs !!
So glad they had an adventure

My children still want to watch Polar Express and the Grinch every year, and the oldest is 19. We are never too old for children's films and I can't believe someone made that comment!

Have a wonderful day

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/12/2025 07:51

My teenage grandsons will watch that kind of film. It's nostalgia

My 16 year old twins spent the autumn re watching the Ninjago TV series, and a couple of years ago (I think) they made me take them to the cinema to watch Paw Patrol , and last year they came with their little sister to watch the Peppa Pig movie!

Chateaudiaries · 25/12/2025 08:39

Ah lovely. I’m glad they enjoyed themselves🎄Smile
