He can't decide whether to hang his stocking up next to his hammock or leave it in his room. He'd bloody better choose his room as Father Christmas doesn't fancy trekking down to the end of the garden to deliver gifts.

(He isn't alone, his dad is out there with him in his own hammock, the pair of mad bastards )

My DS8 is getting a hammock for christmas! Santa built it and watched a bit of TV while testing it out. 😂

They're braver than me - I'm also in Wales and have just been out to the bin and it was freezing 🥶 What an amazing experience though.

Why not?

Because its fun, because they're doing something together, because they had an idea and made it a reality, because its not something they'd normally do, because it's something good to to mix things up a bit...

As long as they're warm and comfortable enough, I can't think of a single reason not to, tbh.

My dc and I slept out on the trampoline a few years ago (think it was pandemic time when we had a really hot summer!) We loved it and just lay there looking at the stars and trying to identify different constellations. We just had our duvets 😱 but like I said it was a very hot summer. We did s’mores first and then just settled down and chatted for hours. The dc still talk about it now 🥰

We've recently moved into our new house, with a bigish garden. I have a dream of sleeping outdoors now I have the space to do it on my own land, so I'm really interested in this.
I'd love to know more about these hammocks. I'll Google it in the morning obviously.

I'm 70 by the way! I'm definitely going to do this one day - in the summer first! I love the night outdoors when humans are mostly asleep. Nature seems bigger and more alive and powerful sometimes at night and it's an awesome feeling.

I’ve camped in February. We have all the right gear too. The only issue for me now is that I need the loo at 3am and to go from my cosy sleeping bag to the toilet in just above freezing temps would kill my holiday buzz!

She's called Fiona in the Wild. She is really great and inspirational. She must be a mumsnetter! I slept in a tent in Scotland for a night because of her! It was wonderful ( but it was the summer and it was pouring down).

I hope they've not frozen solid. Lovely idea, I imagine my partner will do this sort of thing with my boy and possibly one of the girls (the middle girl is lazy and snuggly like her mum) when they're older.

I've just read this out to my DH, he's very jealous but we don't have any trees in the garden so he can't hammock at home. His Christmas pressie is a 200 quid underblanket!

He and DS (18) are out hammocking Sunday night. I think its crazy but they love it.

This is great. I absolutely love hammock camping. However, unless they have the right gear, they will be creeping in in a couple of hours. Hammock camping is absolutely freezing without the right gear and a cold-rated sleeping bag alone won’t cut it. Need the under quilt. I’ve been extremely cold hammock camping even in the tropics.

Back to report that he stayed out til 5.15am when he trundled upstairs to open his stocking 😂 DP is still asleep out there though!
