My 15 yr old is sleeping outside....

... in a hammock tonight 😂

He can't decide whether to hang his stocking up next to his hammock or leave it in his room. He'd bloody better choose his room as Father Christmas doesn't fancy trekking down to the end of the garden to deliver gifts.

(He isn't alone, his dad is out there with him in his own hammock, the pair of mad bastards Xmas Grin )

@CapybarasAreJustGuineaBigs are they hoping for a sign of the big man himself? They must be absolutely 🥶

JudgeBread · 24/12/2025 18:54

Why?

Nope, DS just decided when he got the hammock for his birthday (back in June when it was hot) that he wanted to sleep outside in it on Christmas Eve. They're both seasoned campers and have all the right gear for it but I'm still a bit WTF. I'm quite happy inside with my bottle of Dirty Cow and a film...

Are you in the Uk? Or somewhere much warmer? If UK, they’re mad! 😂

But as your husband is out there too, enjoy the bed to yourself tonight!

I wonder if this is one of the lesser known differences between women and men? I think they are a pair of loons too, but maybe a group of blokes would be saying ‘hell yeah’ and reaching for their industrial grade sleeping bags.

P.S. Love the word Guinea Bigs Xmas Grin

I'm definitely a woman and would love this. Myself and three female friends were camping last month.

Your son has the excuse of being young and trying new (and silly thing) things. His dad, no excuse, he’s clearly insane. 😂😂😂

Ah, good luck to them. A bit of an adventure and bonding time for them. Have a lovely Christmas!

rwalker · 24/12/2025 19:07

Well not for me but a 15 year old wanting to do that with there dad says they’ve a great relationship

thistimelastweek · 24/12/2025 19:07

...and that's how Christmas traditions are founded.

I agree. It’s lovely. Your son will remember it forever I’m sure OP.

This. I think it's lovely. They can always come back in if they get fed up.

Pretty much how I feel. Praise be for DP being genuinely happy to do it because I certainly don't want to!!

They're just clattering about finding thermos flasks and hot water bottles, then we are going to watch the Polar Express before they head out to settle down.

I'm sure my DD would do this given half the chance. She loves Winter camps with Scouts. Its all about the right gear.

I still prefer my bed though.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 24/12/2025 19:25

Good luck trying that here. We’ve had a lot of snow, so it looks festive but is -35 with the wind chill.

Where are you?! No snow here but chilly in the wind...

I love that they are doing that. It’s really lovely (and brave).

JudgeBread · 24/12/2025 18:54

Why?

why not, its fun (for some) i would have loved this at 15 and at that age i often camped out the back garden with friends
im in my 40s and would still love this if i stayed somewhere a hell of a lot warmer than central Scotland

BlossomingSlowly · 24/12/2025 19:33

Do you know what it sounds ridiculous but good on them, why not 😂😂 I guess it will be a Christmas Eve to remember, even if it’s because they freeze and wake up with back ache!

Dollymylove · 24/12/2025 19:53

I hope they've got their thermals on.
Its perishing out there tonight 😅🤣

Diversion · 24/12/2025 19:55

I think that is amazing. I wanted to go camping for Christmas in our hot tent, but it was not to be. Instead I was planning on camping out a couple of nights in the garden in my smaller not hot tent. They obviously have a great bond, hope they have a great night and that you enjoy the extra space in bed.

Sunnyside4 · 24/12/2025 19:56

Sorry, OP, but this bought a smile to my face after an awful afternoon. DH has to be in charge of stocking!

He's wearing full thermal base layers plus a fleece elf onesie over the top 😆
