A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

@strawberrybubblegum I don't know what else anyone will be entitled to, in fact, I thought the criteria had already been expanded recently? Under Johnson, perhaps. I might've got that wrong because I don't take much of an interest in that particular subject.

But the expansion of FSM to anyone on UC was mentioned on another thread as being a very good thing. Again, I didn't comment because it's not something I know anything about.

@justasking111 you've got to wonder what these inspectors are up to if the school is so oversubscribed.

I don't know but it's been placed in special measures. Maybe banning mobile phones two years ago. Putting in an amazing head four years ago. Getting rid of the Deadwood teachers.

The teachers used to dash to the local pub after school, the pupils used to cause trouble in the area. Now everyone says how polite the children are. The pub lost business and toxic members of staff are gone or are not bullying any more. The parents gave it a 92%. Approval rating

The other local secondary on the other hand 🙄

EmeraldRoulette · 30/12/2025 00:57

@justasking111 special measures? Wow. That must be causing a huge amount of controversy.

FFS i've just seen the letter that Yvette Cooper has written

It's going to turn out that it's nobody's job to check anyone's background, isn't it?

I just dont believe this.

He was jailed in Egypt for his social media postings. Did no one think to check his posting history as a result, before deciding he was being unjustly treated.

In 2013/4 he was nominated for the Sakharov Prize. The wall street journal published an article highlighting his hateful social media posting. As a result his nomination was withdrawn. Again was no one aware of this.

With all the state apparatus available to it, I just dont buy that successive governments were not aware of things it took randoms on twitter minutes to find.

@justasking that sounds so stressful for the teachers and head. I'm sure tragic past events are in everyone's minds 😔 You say the parents are furious - if you know them, it's probably worth them writing to the school and expressing their support - and asking for it to be shared with all teachers.

What are the criticisms? From what I've read (just general reading - I'm not in teaching), it seems that safeguarding is usually what causes sudden drops - and they are very pedantic! There should be another inspection very soon, and if they've addressed issues (which could be very minor and easy to fix) they should get it back up quickly.

This case is incredible. There’s also people here jailed for FB posts. The juxtaposition is glaring.

@Sarahconnor1 I said on the main thread about this that I veer between got up and conspiracy and I'm afraid on this one I keep ending up back at conspiracy

There will be a reason why so many people have been fighting for this man. And it will be something sinister.

I don't buy it either, but what they're going to say is that it was nobody's job to do it and they'll claim they didn't know anything and they will say that lessons have been learned.

I don't know if twistyizzy is lurking, but if so, I think she will know what I mean when I say that Starmer's brief will be to push and gaslight people even more than previous governments have. I'm pleased to see it's not working though.

Same on that last line. I think people are watching an entirely ridiculous system crumble. It’s asking too much of people to buy into jail for some delight for others.

Legolava · 30/12/2025 09:13

They did expand PP it’s called ever 6. My school is about 60% PP. Will be 100% FSM soon. I do actually support that - I know the children will be fed. Do I think the extra money from the 2 child cap will go to them? No, it will go on drugs, Botox and booze.

I know of one school under the new Ofsted who they tried to out under the needs attention category for attainment, allegedly. Tore their writing apart and said it wasn’t good enough but were in the highest achievers nationally. That’s the new and improved, Labour Ofsted.

TheNuthatch · 30/12/2025 09:24

Good morning 😁

Gosh what a story to come back to! I've been on a news blackout so I've only just picked it up.
@EmeraldRoulette Do you have a link to Yvette Cooper's letter please?
From what I've read so far, Labour seem to be taking no action to correct? How can Starmer be "delighted"? Something seriously stinks with this, they must have known about this man's history.

strawberrybubblegum · 30/12/2025 10:10

Does anyone have a link to a copy of the full tweets as well? He's saying that they were taken out of context - that they were parody, showing he believed the opposite.

I'd like to see them for myself. None of the stories ever show the source material. I don't really trust anyone: government, media or activist. Sadly any or all of them could be deliberately misleading us.

Sarahconnor1 · 30/12/2025 10:32

@EasternStandard

I keep coming back to the same question. Why this guy? There are hundreds of brits in jail across the world some justly some less so. Very few get the time, attention and expense this man has, despite him only becoming a British citizen a couple of years ago and never having previously set foot in the UK.

Coopers letter posted on x.
x.com/YvetteCooperMP/status/2005713422256857539

The government seem to be asking us to believe that every part of the Government failed in this case. That no one, including civil servants, and the security services did any due diligence.

EmeraldRoulette · 30/12/2025 10:36

@TheNuthatch hello! Hope you've been having a nice time

here is the letter from her own X account

https://x.com/YvetteCooperMP/status/2005713422256857539

@strawberrybubblegum I don't know what you'd considered to be a reliable source. I saw the tweets myself. I'm amazed he didn't delete the account already but he's probably got enough protection that he doesn't have to.

there are so many but he's deleted anything that anyone's drawn attention to. The easiest way to look was using keywords in the search bar for his timeline. Just using the keywords of "kill" or "murder" made me feel ill and angry.

there are people who have done a few screenshots but I don't know who you would consider reliable. Having seen a few with my own eyes, I don't think anybody's doctored or created them. So you could just google "name+tweets+screenshots"

also, the sheer volume of the tweets, the way they are sustained over more than a decade, there is no argument for constant parody.

Yvette Cooper (@YvetteCooperMP) on X

I have written to the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee about the long-standing and deeply regrettable information failures exposed in recent days around the handling of consular cases, and how we intend to address them.

TheNuthatch · 30/12/2025 10:54

Thanks for the link @EmeraldRoulette and @Sarahconnor1.
I'm trying to read up on what has happened, but its quite the rabbit hole. I don't believe for a second that our security services knew less about this man than a few people on twitter.

I can't find anything that correlates his tweets, will post if I see anything, although I'm not on X. I share Strawberry's distrust here. There seems to be an agenda from many sources and something stinks. Anyone with any skin in this game will want to cover their own arses. Much appears to have been deleted, so we're relying on screenshots etc. AEF has apologised but later liked a post painting him as a victim according to Jenrick.

John McDonald has posted his support for this vile man.

There’s a lot of ‘as you know’s in Cooper’s letter.

She’s evidently arse covering - as you know….

They’ve been woeful as per. For some reason Emily Thornberry was doing her best smug superiority on this.

I hope it doesn’t go away for them without inflicting more lost votes anyway.

Welcome back. On the tweets there was also a prize that withdrew over them some years back. I’m not sure there’s much pushback on them being real.

Absolutely.

That letter is a load of gibberish imo. They are either complicit or incompetent (probably both). Farage must be thrilled.

I really think if someone can show Starmer and co knew about the tweets when saying they were unaware that’ll be it. There’s so much obfuscation, so typical but people are fed up with it.

There’s stuff circulating that they knew but it needs to be proved.

Thanks @EmeraldRoulette - I'll use the search term you suggest to find screenshots, and good to know you think they're accurate. I'm really looking for any context.

I certainly trust people on this thread more than the government or journalists - you might complain that's faint praise 😄

That's smart of you to search the tweets as soon as the story happened. I'll try to do the same quickly next time something comes up - I assumed that everything had been deleted by the time I saw the story.

EmeraldRoulette · 30/12/2025 11:40

@strawberrybubblegum it was the only way to verify what was happening and if there's an original source that I can look at, then I always go there first. To be honest, I find all the links to newspapers etc irrelevant in cases like this because everything that's happening is on the social media of government officials and the man himself. (my friend who I saw yesterday didn't know about the Sandy Peggie case but she still thinks the BBC is good and has been shocked by the recent revelations).

Some of the tweets were disappearing in real time on Boxing Day I think it was. A couple of independent journalists were actually asking what others had found, I think because he was going through and deleting.

I love the receipt keepers, they do a great job, but it's not something I want to get involved in myself.

TheNuthatch · 30/12/2025 11:42

I can't wrap my head around the boxing day tweets. If they were determined to bring this POS to the UK, why draw attention to it, and why affiliate the PM to this man?
None of it makes any sense.
