A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

@SpaceRaccoon sorry, what is SLT? I googled it but couldn’t find anything that made sense in this context.

Sorry, senior leadership team, that's probably wank corporate speak from me.

EmeraldRoulette · 27/12/2025 10:12

@SpaceRaccoon I knew what you meant but I didn't know who that guy was

Googled and the first thing that came up was a news article about his return - presented him as a political prisoner

Fortunately, Twitter has given me the real picture! And his own Tweets, no less.

The absolute state of this government ☹️

Thanks spaceracoon - nothing wrong with wank corporate speak!😂

SpaceRaccoon · 27/12/2025 10:14

@EmeraldRoulette right! ? His own words. It actually feels almost goady from the government.

boys3 · 27/12/2025 10:38

Probably yes.

But as the article says our per capita GDP - the measure that really matters - will see the UK slip further. Though I thought we were already further behind on that than suggested in the article.

Not good news.

Boxing Day sales footfall also down from a brief glance elsewhere.

Doing one of my "random round ups"....

Over Christmas, I was thinking a lot about my complete lack of confidence since lockdown. (You know sometimes you have a moment that makes it seem even more clear? I had one of those and it's a bit shocking when I look at myself properly).

I can't blame lockdown for all of it. I think some of the societal changes we've seen have really thrown me. They affect how I react to people, and how I interpret them.

Like you're almost supposed to apologise if you want to achieve anything now, or if you have anything that people can interpret as money. I'm not particularly well off and I feel this way.

You're supposed to be ashamed of British history, and that goes double for me because I'm not white.

I was thinking about @redange who clearly has a lot of knowledge of the education system

I'm wondering if we're teaching the only Britain had an empire? Amongst other things. The message that "Britain = bad" seems so heavily entrenched.

But also, I'm wondering what else we're teaching, because I'm so baffled by some of the things I see around me. That definitely applies more to my own age bracket and younger - I don't really see evidence of it in, say over 60s?

EmeraldRoulette · 27/12/2025 11:59

@redange we cross posted
I had literally just commented on your comments on the education system😊

poor guy, the crazy just never ends.

UK teacher is accused of posing risk to children and referred to counter-terror programme for showing Trump videos to his US politics class | Daily Mail Online

Hopefully the free speech Union will be able to push back on this ridiculous situation. They've been quite successful with these types of cases. He's clearly been failed by the college and the local authority. He's a politics teacher, for crying out loud, showing footage of the American President. Anyone with an ounce of sense knows politics students don't need to be safeguarded from that.

He is also a Holocaust denier. Utterly shameful for our government to be singing his praises and celebrating him being in the UK. Not in my name.

Sarahconnor1 · 27/12/2025 14:13

Starmer, Lammy and Cooper have all celebrated Alaa Abd El-Fattahs return to the UK saying it was a top priority for the government. They are idiots who seem to stumble from one shambles to the next.

Alaa Abd El-Fattahs twitter account is an absolute cesspit, which he now appears to have deleted.

WTAF? What is wrong with this fucking government? (Rhetorical question.)

EmeraldRoulette · 27/12/2025 17:38

@SpaceRaccoon it has to be deliberate

The guy himself is busy deleting tweets today, but what is still up is quite something. Anyway, blessed are the receipt keepers. It's all available.

I have some experience with one political figure who is praising the return of this guy today. I can see the "suicidal empathy" factor in that person. But maybe it's complicated when you've met somebody in the flesh.

I'm so sick of the gaslighting - while knowing that the gaslighting is designed to make me feel sick. Aargh.

How can we trust these people to run our country when their judgement and moral compass is so skewed?

“The Prime Minister said he was “delighted” that Alaa Abd el-Fattah had arrived from Egypt on Friday evening after a travel ban imposed by Cairo was lifted following lobbying by ministers.
Mr Abd el-Fattah, an activist with dual British-Egyptian citizenship, previously said that it was heroic to kill Zionists “including civilians”. He urged Londoners to burn Downing Street, told his supporters to kill police and said he hated white people.”

I’ve not heard of any of this but why on earth is Starmer / Labour delighted?

Bizarre, what is their reasoning

I guess he won't be getting arrested and fast tracked to a two year prison sentence though.

redange · 27/12/2025 22:44

I am in Lincolnshire, at my Sisters Farm having driven up at 6 AM this morning and arriving at 9 from Essex. This, being the first time in a year that niece no 1 has seen her Parents and Siblings since last Christmas. Personally I would love her to stay there for a 'while' and not come back with me Mum and the Children on Monday. She, was very reticent to come with us today and wanted to stay at home especially getting up at 5.30 AM was difficult I think considering the upheaval for her today she has had, a very positive day, she could go home to our 'house' tomorrow with DH.

Kier Starmer must have tweeted out about Alaa Abd el- Fattah without knowing anything about him, This, alone asks serious questions about him, namely he will do what someone asks him to do without having any prior knowledge what he is tweeting about or the circumstances surrounding his opinion. Alternatively, Starmer is tweeting in support of someone deemed a 'Terrorist' threat in Egypt and someone who is actively hostile to the United Kingdom and its best interests. This, as Egypt is considered to be a friend of the west and a useful partner in the fight against Islamic extremism.

Assuming, Starmer was naive rather than in support of an out and out Anti- Semite and who's British Citizenship should be questioned in light of his previous remarks about UK citizens. Starmer's position as Prime Minister has got to be untenable, with the information coming out about Alaa Abd El-'Fattah'. and his extreme ideological views.

These types of views/tweets, in other contexts are enough to be considered reasonable for a Prison Sentence by a Judge . This, especially if you reference British People as Monkeys, and advocate killing Zionists with Lucy Connolly tweets, There, can be no clearly representation of 'two tier' justice than this.

Lets, hope that because this story has come out on the 27th of December Starmer is not able to hide away from it and the 'storm' does not remain quiet.

EasternStandard · 27/12/2025 23:05

The tweets are so bad. Sustained and awful stuff. Some people get prison time over one tweet and others get the red carpet treatment, PM welcome, delight and top priority. Utter madness. I hope Starmer feels it in the votes even more.

Two tier justice.

Depends whether your political view is 'approved' /convenient or not.

What has happened to this country?

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15416559/Starmer-backlash-return-UK-Egyptian-activist-kill-Zionists.html

I think these articles were written before the homophobic tweets and 'i hate white people' tweets were uncovered.

Its horrifying that we have let someone with these views into the UK, worse still that he has been lauded by senior politicians.

I would ask 'what were they thinking' but that would be pointless.

PM faces backlash after his 'delight' at return of Egyptian activist

Tory and Reform UK politicians united to condemn the Prime Minister for welcoming Alaa Abd El-Fattah's return to Britain.
