Personally I'd be gutted if they ban X. There's some cesspit views on there, and you have to sift the bollox, but there's also a lot of genuine stuff that MSM just doesn't cover. I wouldn't have had the first clue how bad the 7 October attack was without it, for instance.

Iranian women used X to start a growing awareness of protests. Starmer has entirely lost it if he thinks banning it is the answer.

Just a logical progression from cancelling postponing elections. ☹️

I know we are only talking a relatively low number of council elections plus four new mayoral ones. But without sounding like a complete conspiracy theorist potential tip of the iceberg.

one thing that has cheered me is that a number of these councils with a range of political control have said their local elections will, or rather should - the govt could potentially ignore them - go ahead.

I think 31 councils (of the 63) have said that they expect to go ahead. Is that right from what you've seen?

@TheNuthatch - yes, I thought around half had said they thought their local elections should be held. Initially it was only 4 or 5 asking for cancellation. Still in single figures I think. Including at least two, East and Sussex who asked for their May 2025 elections to be postponed.

As a council I'd be pretty teed off at the lack of autonomy re when elections were held. Our council is a pretty mixed bag politics wise. They'd kick off.

Just a thought, but wondering if this is Liz Kendal laying a bear trap for Starmer?

She could have kept Labour's hands clean by laying it all on Ofcom, so wondering why she would answer as she did. The narrative of 'Starmer wants to cancel X' will be damaging to him, even if Ofcom fail to act.

Have you all noticed how little there has been about Iran on mn? There’s one thread which is mostly arguing about whether it’s been covered on UK news channels but otherwise very little.
I’d have thought it was major world news that would have attracted a lot of comment.

And the really dumb thing is that Ofcom isn’t ever going to ban X. There’ll be a ‘stern’ letter or two and some vague commitments from X and it’ll all go away.

I get the impression for whatever reason, that the mainstream media and the British Government do not want the Islamic Republic of Iran to fall. The, agenda seems to be about seeing how many children did not like Nigel Farage at school and potentially, stopping X . This, of course being the appetizer before the main course of Digital ID's. It seems the powers that be do what the public enthused by the 'overthrowing' of a despised regime !
