A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Heard kezia dugdale and william hague on times radio - both said no way starmer goes before local elections in May. Kezia said she thought Starmer was safe for longer because any challenger in the cabinet already too closely associated to be a new broom, and anyone who was an outsider would have no mandate….

Surely most people think the dynamic duo will fall after May.

DancingFerret · 06/01/2026 19:28

British troops are reportedly going to be sent to Ukraine. Without wishing to be unfeeling or churlish, while the UK is without a robust defence policy or strategy, surely our need is potentially greater?

Starmer has been chomping at the bit for this for ages. He thinks it’ll give him a poll boost.

I'd say thats accurate. I think May at the earliest too.
Unless Starmer drops another whopping clanger between now and then, which isn't implausible. He has form.

The UK has never committed to stationing troops in Ukraine other than as a patrolling force after a peace treaty is in effect.

Frankly, it’s all bollocks. There won’t be a peace deal. And even if there was one we don’t have enough soldiers to make the slightest difference: we couldn’t keep any peace, with or without any other European countries’ forces.

It’s a nonsense.

He really is. That’s why I’ll never see him as dull and boring. He’s a bloody danger.

CambridgeSingers · 06/01/2026 20:01

I can’t see how they think the ehcp reform will be anything other than another attempt to grab money from the wrong group - they might be banking on most people not caring but in terms of who actually wants that education bill? Who it would be popular with?

are they banking on there being a large pool of non sen parents who’ll be pleased some kids lose ehcp provision? Can’t see it. Again all seems very negative, however talented the comms are around it…

It’s posturing photo op nonsense. I just saw a photo of him gurning over sending people. What a fucker. He should send himself.

EasternStandard · 06/01/2026 20:12

I can’t believe people still back him, he’s got to be the most loathed PM in history. Mind you, maybe they’re keen to go too.

I can't articulate how angry I am at that news. Starmer may just be a weak pathetic PM, waving his willy to make himself look bigger, but how dare he use 'boots on the ground' to improve his polling. Thats fucking low.

Same. I’m incandescent. The fuckers who excuse this are part of it too. I’d better avoid that for a while. They can pick up the outcome. Bloody Starmer apologists.

EasternStandard · 06/01/2026 20:23

Blair got his anti war protests. I’d do the same. Starmer is even worse. It’s all for his fucking poll rating.

TheNuthatch · 06/01/2026 20:37

I hope Kemi skewers him tomorrow. She'll be spoilt for choice.

Fingers crossed it has the opposite effect on the polls. Starmer is so loathed, I doubt many will be pleased about him posturing and gurning over putting troops in harms way.
Some on here will get the flutters over it, as we've seen before.

They sure will, they love it.

I don’t think he’s in the same place as the last time he tried to pull the troops thing. He really is roundly despised now.

I don't know who would support it, or why, but I know they will.
Still some on here trumpeting that PS Vat was the right thing to do. 🤷‍♂️ They celebrated when the govt won the court case, even after everything that came out in the proceedings.
Some will gaslight themselves again over EHCPs.

Starmer, really does not have a clue if he thinks putting troops will improve his Poll ratings. Does, Starmer not realize that Margaret Thatcher was at War to protect British Territory (he actually wants to get rid of British Overseas territory). Does, he also not understand everybody has had enough of Ukraine and what it has cost when we are so skint. Does, he also understand we have very limited capabilities even compared to the first Gulf War in 1991.

The man has absolutely no concept of reality, outside of his own head. I do wonder does he 'believe' Reform/Conservative voters are going to suddenly say 'He's our Man' because he is prepared to put young soldiers lives on the line, for no UK benefit. Does, he believe he is going to retrieve the 'Red Wall' with his war rhetoric, when people cannot afford heating.

EmeraldRoulette · 06/01/2026 21:37

I can't for the life of me see how sending troops to Ukraine would improve his poll rating. I may be completely wrong though. I thought most people were not keen to get involved at that level. Does he mean as part of UN peacekeeping forces?

He so completely misunderstands the rest of the population - outside his left wing bubble - that I wouldn't be surprised if he actually believes that the flags movement is jingoistic in nature, and 'the little people' will be moved to patriotic duty (and support for him) by a war.

Hi all, apologies for absence. Life got very busy for a while there but I’m dipping my toe back in here now that things are settling down.

Looking forward to PMQ today, hoping Kemi can maintain her forward momentum.

"The Labour Government’s popularity has plunged to a new low despite attempts by Sir Keir Starmer to reset his premiership.
A YouGov tracker monitoring the popularity of the current administration shows the Government’s net approval rating is now -59, its lowest since Sir Keir took power.
Seventy per cent of voters now disapprove of the Government, according to polling carried out on Jan 5 – an increase on the previous peak of 69 per cent."

Good stuff from Kemi at PMQs.
Starmer looked very uncomfortable, with very little support coming from his rear.

The End of Hospitality in England ?
Labour's plans for near-zero tolerance drink-drive limit 'a death knell for country pubs' - as minister insists people can still have 'a great night out' as long as they don't use a car | Daily Mail Online

I do not drink and drive ever, I won't even have a sip of Alcohol before getting in a car. However, this is just typical of the Labour Party regretting certain demographic groups. In this case white 'Gammon ' rural types of people who also might happen to enjoy being part of 'Hunt'. Despicable, from Labour as usual and will make not an iota of difference to road death statistics, because people who Drink and Drive do not do so by having around 2.5 Pints of 3.8% Volume Beer or Lager. The United Kingdom amazingly has among the lowest death rates on the road in the World(this despite probably having 'some' of the worst drivers in Europe .

Why can't the Labour Party/Khan introduce laws to reduce Muggings, Phone Robberies, Gun transportation and other serious issues and not the final nail in the coffin for the Hospitality industry.

My father 84 (who is now in a care home made a substantial amount of money though hospitality especially owning two 70 bedroom hotels before Dementia hit him) These, hotels were built up over 30 years with bits added on to them and due largely firstly to having Nightclubs and Bars attached to them in the 1970s/80s. Today, this would be impossible and Labour have always over 50 years been a disaster for 'Hospitality' . Hence, it always amazes me that people like Tom Kerridge, Sasha Lord were Labour supporters before this lot came in.

How, anybody who has even worked on a bar or as a 'waiter' even can support Labour is beyond me. They might think Labour have given me greater benefits such as higher pay, but if they really understand, all Labour do is make sure those on the bottom ladder of hospitality have less hours to work. This, has been the pattern every-time the Labour Party come in to Government. In the 1970s/80s every town had busy Nightclubs from Wednesday -Saturday . The late night industry was huge generator of tax fun and creative music culture.

Now we don't even have Nightclubs in London soon the only drinking venues will be bars in 5 Star Hotels..

Labour's plans to slash drink-drive limit is 'death knell for pubs'

Ministers are to consult on whether to slash the limit from 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath to 22 micrograms in England and Wales to bring them in line with Scotland.

Targeting, certain groups who would never vote for this incarceration of a Labour Party. Revenge, on the Bishop Auckland's Working Men's clubs etc.
