What’s not coming in your Xmas grocery order

Light hearted. I know it’s not the end of the world.

So Sainsburys have emailed.

no spiced red cabbage and they’ve substituted cauliflower cheese for it (yuck)

no pigs in blankets and they’ve substituted sausage rolls instead 🤷🏻‍♀️

no giant smarties tube and they’ve substituted white smarties. No thanks

no nice crisps and they’ve substituted horrible crisps.

eleven things missing in total. Looks like I’m going to have to actually visit a supermarket 😆

Johnny Depp ☹️

Same 😆

Sainsburys order has come. Most substitutions sent back. They’d also swapped raw frozen prawns for cooked frozen prawns and they went back. I want them for a stir fry of some sort, not a prawn cocktail!

It seems that everyone does red cabbage

I've never cooked cabbage,ever, I don't think

Is it an absolutely essential part of Christmas dinner?

My veg is: roasted baby carrots, honey roast parsnips, stir-fried sprouts with chestnuts, cauliflower cheese, steamed broccoli.

Would you miss cabbage with that? Should I buy cabbage? I don't want to cook cabbage.

Do you have a slow cooker? Red cabbage is really easy to cook in one, just throw in all the ingredients and leave it to cook. Once cooled you can freeze some of it if there’s too much. It’s really nice later in the month with sausages and mash. You’ll find a recipe on BBC Food website.

Well I won’t be having an online shop from Asda ever again!

10 substitutions, Several Christmas dinner items that expire before Christmas Day, damaged fridge items that I didn’t know weren’t sealed until driver had left, grey, dark bacon, also a missing item. Requested a refund for the unusable items through online and they refused it!! This was after spending almost £300 on the food shop.

The driver was also really rude and unfriendly. I had a money tip ready for him which was impossible to find a reason to give to him, so I didn’t.

So now I’m out of pocket and have to go out and replace the items which defeats the purpose of having an online shop. Really disappointing.

CeeJay81 · 22/12/2025 10:21

Nothing. Tesco have everything i wanted. I have already gotten the meat and all the chocs, biscuits, mince pies etc though so it's just the veg, a pudding, some drinks and a few various bits and pieces that are for xmas. So I shall have everything I need.

TheMousePipes · 22/12/2025 10:22

Ocado - no substitutions, no missing items. Bloody love Ocado.

onlyhereforthefood · 22/12/2025 10:23

Amazingly Sainsburys have come through! The only thing not coming is some pate which was an extra anyway, I’m very surprised and relieved!

YorkieTheRabbit · 22/12/2025 10:31

Everything arrived in my Ocado order and one small substitution from Sainsbury.
My butcher order is coming tomorrow

BearSoFair · 22/12/2025 12:12

Just had ours from Sainsburys, all Christmas related items delivered - even the pigs in blankets! No minced ginger or roasted peppers but neither of them are must-haves at the moment.

vanillalattes · 22/12/2025 12:13

Ours came from Morrisons this morning - no subs and everything had long dates ☺️

Themagicfarawaytreeismyfav · 22/12/2025 12:31

Mine came this morning ( ocado) all present and correct.

I've had Asda decline a refund for me before. I complained and they quickly backed down.

Fatmumslim01 · 22/12/2025 12:46

Ocado came this morning, nothing missing and only one sub (chutney for a different flavour of chutney which is fine)

We haven't gone crazy with food this year as it's my first year on mounjaro, I'm 50 pounds down and looking forward to not overdoing it at Christmas for once!

Need to collect meat hamper from butchers tomorrow then we are done. Next shop coming on 29th so hopefully won't go to a shop before then!

BarnacleBeasley · 22/12/2025 12:47

I'm hoping my system (that I've just come up with) will work this year: Sainsbury's delivering on 23rd, but I've ordered the meat from a farm shop to collect on the afternoon of the 23rd, so if the supermarket e-mail says anything isn't available I can still get it (albeit more expensively) from the farm shop. I will be getting the parsnips from the farm shop anyway because they are horrible and pointless, and I refuse to buy more than 1 token parsnip for DP and maybe toddler DS to eat. Sprouts hopefully from Sainsbury's though as I suspect the farm shop will make me buy an entire massive stalk and I'm not that committed.

DeafLeppard · 22/12/2025 12:47

One type of coffee beans subbed for another type (fine) and short dated raspberries - also fine, as I needed them for coulis. Tesco.

Imperfectpolly · 22/12/2025 12:56

No cutlery so will have to go out to buy some.

Good subs on a couple of non important items.

xogossipgirlxo · 22/12/2025 13:00

I was late to book so my order is coming christmas eve morning. I’m so stressed😂

EmeraldDreams73 · 22/12/2025 13:03

Tesco is coming this evening and I've had an email saying no substitutions! I'll believe it when I see it, but it'll be a first if it's true!

Call their Customer Services and they should give you a refund. I think the initial refund decision is made by bots. The humans are usually very apologetic.

Johnny Depp ☹️

That's because he's coming here. Sorry!

LemaxObsessive · 22/12/2025 13:09

@PodMomApologies if this has already been asked and ignore if you’ve already given the info out, but please may I know how you do your Parmesan parsnips?! Is it literally just freshly grated Parmesan sprinkled on roasted parsnips?!

LittleGreenDuck · 22/12/2025 13:10

shellyleppard · 21/12/2025 10:21

@BallerinaFall cabbage, carrots, potato, swede and parsnips are 5 pence a bag in Aldi, same as Tesco and Morrisons

15p in Sainsbury's, I feel robbed! Though probably not as robbed as the farmers feel. 1p a carrot is ridiculous really.

I braved the supermarket early this morning. The only thing on my list that I couldn't get was cornflour, but I got "sauce flour" instead. No idea what that is, but it'll do.

LittleGreenDuck · 22/12/2025 13:12

Oh, and I'm picking up the meat from the butcher tomorrow, so hopefully we are all good to go.

Me too! I very, very rarely have subs and almost never get missing items. The Leeds depot at least, who serve north & West Yorkshire, is very good.

My Ocado cut off is 23:30 this evening and I’m stressing that I’ve forgotten something important! 😱

Parmesan-baked Parsnips

This is one of the nicest ways to serve parsnips, baked crisp and golden brown in the oven with a Parmesan coating. They can be prepared well in advance, up to 24 hours, or they can even be prepared and frozen and will then cook perfectly if allowed to...
