What’s not coming in your Xmas grocery order

Light hearted. I know it’s not the end of the world.

So Sainsburys have emailed.

no spiced red cabbage and they’ve substituted cauliflower cheese for it (yuck)

no pigs in blankets and they’ve substituted sausage rolls instead 🤷🏻‍♀️

no giant smarties tube and they’ve substituted white smarties. No thanks

no nice crisps and they’ve substituted horrible crisps.

eleven things missing in total. Looks like I’m going to have to actually visit a supermarket 😆

Morrisons. No frozen roast potatoes (and before I get flamed for buying frozen roast potatoes we’re going away for Christmas so these were just handy to have and take with us!)

Turkey! Ordered from Sainsbury’s Christmas food. Got an email to say the Turkey crown wasn’t available!

You can’t really do without that! Yes I should have got red cabbage and pigs in blankets before and frozen them! Next year!

This is why I don't bother doing an online shop anymore! I stopped doing it after a few years ago they substituted basically everything, we'd have been having potatoes and gravy for dinner.

They always have to substitute something important and I have to go to the shops anyway, which kind of defies the point of the online bloody shop in the first place.

NoTouch · 21/12/2025 11:58

Tesco has just been and not a single sub.

onlyhereforthefood · 21/12/2025 12:06

I’m half expecting no turkey on mine, but won’t find out until tomorrow- I’m dreading the email!

TidyDancer · 21/12/2025 12:14

Mine is coming on Tuesday evening so we will see! I’m working a short day on Christmas Eve so if we are desperate I can pop into a supermarket on the way home but I’d really rather not! When I logged into the app to change a few things there’s a lot out of stock (not on my order) so I’m hoping that means they are regularly updating things so what I’ve got is coming. I’ll revisit the thread in approximately 55 hours time to update. 😂

Pineapplewaves · 21/12/2025 12:14

From Asda my Gingerbread Men crumpets were substituted with normal crumpets, my Indian Snack Selection was substituted with the Chinese version, my Festive Bakes and Festive (savoury) Pies were substituted with the chicken and mushroom versions, they didn’t have a couple of bags of sharing crisps and there was no substitute available.

juniorcakeoff · 21/12/2025 12:16

Last year on our Christmas click and collect they didn't have our turkey...on Christmas eve when I'd ordered a massive one for 12 people. Never doing an online order again.

PodMom · 21/12/2025 12:19

I’m certainly glad I’ve done the order early enough that I can do a supermarket run before Xmas day.

Ocado just came and had everything but the cranberry sauce and soda water. We’re picking our turkey crown up from Sainsbury’s at 8am on Christmas Eve so have all day to find another if anything goes wrong with that!

Owly11 · 21/12/2025 12:23

Everything came! Unlike last year when morrison's delivered absolutely nothing and didn't even let us know. We sat in all evening on the 23rd waiting and had to go out to tesco at 6am on xmas eve to do the entire xmas shop!!!!

@DilemmaDelilahi haven’t been able to get frozen chopped onion from our local sainsburys for months. I’ve been on the verge of emailing them to ask WTF is going on but been too worried about how that looks on me 🤣

I’m a new convert to frozen chopped onions, my daughters have been nagging me for a while to get it as they use it all the time cooking their own family meals. I love it, no more tears and no more trying to find the right sized onion!

OneLoyalGreyFish · 21/12/2025 12:40

I got an Ocado delivery last Wednesday for stuff I knew would be okay with long dates, everything in stock and no substitutions. And I have a Waitrose order coming tomorrow morning. Trouble is I keep adding to it and I know I’ll end up struggling to get it all used before dates run out especially as my freezer space is already jam packed! Going to my daughter’s for Christmas dinner and I said I’d pay for (and cook) the turkey - she brought round 2 yesterday evening as no room in her fridge after her Sainsbury’s delivery. Each one says serve 9 but they don’t look that big, although there’s only 11 of us anyway (but you do need some for leftover turkey and stuffing sandwiches!). I think she got everything else she ordered.

xAwaywiththefairiesx · 21/12/2025 13:11

It seems that everyone does red cabbage

I've never cooked cabbage,ever, I don't think

Is it an absolutely essential part of Christmas dinner?

My veg is: roasted baby carrots, honey roast parsnips, stir-fried sprouts with chestnuts, cauliflower cheese, steamed broccoli.

Would you miss cabbage with that? Should I buy cabbage? I don't want to cook cabbage.

PodMom · 21/12/2025 14:01

I’m doing

turkey
nut roast
roast potatoes
Yorkshire pudding (controversial)
stuffing
cheesy leeks
sprouts
parmesan parsnips

If I can’t find a cabbage I’ll do honey roast carrots as well so not the end of the world.

im going to do honey and mustard sausages instead of pigs in blankets which I’ve decided I don’t actually like anyway! 😆

The only thing that was missing was Tesco Plant Chef 12 Oriental Style Selection Pack, but we've enough other stuff that it won't be particularly missed. They substituted the Christmas cake (but only two of us eat it, so no big deal) and smoked salmon (for a more expensive one)

I am going out personally to pick fruit and vegetables as I've not been all that impressed with the produce they've sent in previous orders, i.e. grapes looking like they're just on the turn.

whatohwhattodo · 21/12/2025 14:38

Only sub on my Sainsbury’s order this morning was some pate - a Christmassy one swapped out for Ardennes.

Unforgettablefire · 21/12/2025 14:56

Johnny Depp ☹️

daffodilandtulip · 21/12/2025 15:05

Mine came on Friday. When I woke to the "sorry we do not have all your items" email, I huffed and puffed. Then found that it was just the flavour of pizza that we had chosen for that night's tea. All of Christmas is present and correct. Very impressed.

Popping to little Asda on Tuesday for breads/milk.

Greyeyesgreenlight · 21/12/2025 15:36

No smoked salmon and a less nice salmon side (for Christmas Eve) than I'd chosen.
Pains aux chocolat instead of cinnamon swirls, which is fine.
No gruyere fondue bake 😢
Short date on potato salad, beetroot salad, lardons and coleslaw (all refunded now).

I have to pick up the turkey and ham early on the 23rd, so I'll get new salads then and see if they have the nice salmon that I originally wanted.

sloth75 · 21/12/2025 15:59

Mine is due tomorrow so I'll report back! Last year Asda substituted my cabbage with ONE Brussel sprout and cheese with fresh orange juice 🤣

Munchyseeds2 · 21/12/2025 16:25

Just a short dated pork pie on ours.
Will be sending it back (they might just give it to us)
Won't be going out again....we are not going to starve!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 21/12/2025 16:29

Full fat milk that we buy every week. Out of stock.

Livpool · 21/12/2025 17:29

I has ZERO substitutions or missing items in my Asda order yesterday. I was in shock

AddictedToBooks · 21/12/2025 17:42

My entire Asda grocery order (£90) didn't arrive today! It was apparently a "ghost order" where I've paid and the bank has approved the transaction and on my end, the order looks normal - took 4 attempts at calling the helpdesk but finally I got a refund and they cancelled the order so that I could actually make another one.
Here's hoping it arrives tomorrow - on the plus side, I got my Iceland order of Christmas desserts, so if it all goes wrong, we can just eat pavlova
