What teabags do you buy?

What teabags do you buy? And are they what you'd consider THE best teabags that money can buy?

Like I buy own brand instant coffee, but I do think Nescafe gold blend smooth is THE best instant coffee.

Im talking black classic English style tea, nothing fancy or flavoured.

Yorkshire Gold

M&S Luxury Gold tea bags, lovely flavour.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 18/12/2025 07:35

Yorkshire tea in this house. We also fly Yorkshire airlines 😂

Barry's Gold blend.

So.

I tried almost every tea we’ve got here. All the supermarket brands, PG Tips, Tetley, Twinings, Yorkshire.

My ranking was:

  1. Yorkshire Gold
  2. Yorkshire Red
  3. Taylors of Harrogate English or Irish Breakfast
  4. Twinings Everyday or Strong Breakfast (LATER DISQUALIFIED: I can’t seem to buy a box now that doesn’t shed tons of ground tea).
  5. Barry’s Gold
  6. Tetley
  7. PG Tips

I fancy both Assam and Ceylon equally, so I’m an English Breakfast fan. My DH prefers pure Assam, and there are several good Assams.

And #1036 - Scottish Blend. It claims to be specifically for “Scottish water,” but Scottish water makes good tea out of any tea bag. This tea is truly brown sadness water.

Anyone else who likes Taylor’s of Harrogate, there’s a great “match three” on Amazon for a good price.

For everyone on the Yorkshire Gold train, it’s often on offer at Tesco.

Westfacing · 18/12/2025 07:44

I'm a recent convert to Yorkshire Tea - from PG Tips.

Do you get first flush then? or settle for second?

Sainsbury's do an Assam loose tea in the Taste The Difference range. It is close to the "strong" or "gold" varieties of other brands, but slightly less deep in flavour. Fine for every day if you would like to avoid tea bags. For teabags, another vote for Yorkshire Gold.

YYYDlilah · 18/12/2025 09:12

PG Tips is terrible. If I have to drink teabag tea, I'd have Ty-Phoo.
Yorkshire Gold is too strong for me.

I prefer instant coffee although a good cup of ground coffee is excellent.
The Alcafe Gold from Aldi is good. I prefer it to Douwe Egbert gold.

Leaf tea is far better than teabags.

Joolsin · 18/12/2025 09:20

Twinings Earl Grey

berlinbaby2025 · 18/12/2025 09:25

I’ve tried them all and nothing comes close to Twinings Extra Strong Breakfast tea - expensive but as someone said it’s always on offer somewhere.

sanityisamyth · 18/12/2025 09:41

I don’t. Moved in to a new place nearly 2 months ago. It was supposed to be furnished but it doesn’t have a kettle. Luckily I don’t drink hot drinks!

Squirrel60 · 18/12/2025 16:16

PG Tips is my all-time favourite. I'm OK with Tetley, not a fan of Typhoo.

AlwaysADramaHadEnough · 18/12/2025 16:17

We don't like strong tea. So generally a red label tesco , sainsbury, aldi whatever

PurpleLeather · 18/12/2025 16:34

Clipper organic earl grey 😘

PurpleLeather · 18/12/2025 16:43

Does no one else worry about the plastic in the teabags & the bleaching? The reason I buy Clipper Organic is no bleached bags and plastic free, plus clean tasting organic tea?

tuvamoodyson · 18/12/2025 17:06

CalzoneOnLegs · 17/12/2025 19:01

Co-op Earl Grey, I’ve been told their Indian Prince tea is wonderful also

Nana bought Indian Prince loose tea from the co-op! I didn’t know you could still get it. We drink Tetley tea, my husband drinks the decaff one.

Nightlight8 · 18/12/2025 17:09

I bought Thompsons in Sainsbury's recently and they are good! They were on offer so thought I'd try them.

muddyford · 18/12/2025 17:15

Sainsbury's Red Label.

burblish · 18/12/2025 17:25

Clipper organic - I don't get the hype with Yorkshire tea at all.

snugasabug75 · 18/12/2025 17:35

Still no other Glengetti drinkers😩

HeadyLamarr · 18/12/2025 17:38

Regular Yorkshire Tea is all you need.

Crunchymum · 18/12/2025 17:39

Normal Yorkshire Tea but I'm going to have to try YT Gold now due to this thread 😅

CottageLoaf · 18/12/2025 17:44

Twinnings English Breakfast or Yorkshire T for Hard Water (which do taste better in this hard water area).

Puddledmuddled · 18/12/2025 17:47

Clipper tea - the orange box

mamaduckbone · 18/12/2025 17:57

Yorkshire, and yes, they are the best. Even the decaf tastes great.
