Anyone else thinking she’s brave posting that on X - surely the temptation is there to use the Grok facilities?

did anyone see the heavily made over reform councillor photos - wiped about 10 years of some of them?

Whatever happens, it will be "Starmers Fault". I am sure certain posters are already honing their pasting scissors to tell us so.

The Christmas card looked like something out of a movie you see on dedicated tv channels.

Speaking of interesting reading, I had cause to refresh my ailing memory, and can't believe this had fallen behind the wine ....

Surely the answer is to prosecute those in the UK who use this vile tool?

Surely the answer is to regulate so that vile tools like this are not legal? All Elon has done is make people pay to use it now.

Ofcom will not ban X. They are weaker than a milky cup of tea.

placemats · 09/01/2026 22:25

Instagram is toxic as well. As is Facebook.

Reddit is good for me. I do have strict details regarding social media.

pointythings · 09/01/2026 22:34

Just to relieve the endless gloom: DS started his NHS job on Monday and has done his first week. And has loved it. Friendly team, very supportive of the newbie, immediately included in social gatherings, learning lots and actually enjoying the commute on the bus. This in the midst of all the ice and storms. I'm so proud.

LlttledrummergirI · 09/01/2026 22:39

That's fabulous pointythings, I'm so pleased for him. Having a good team makes work bearable I my experience.

itsgettingweird · 10/01/2026 06:09

Very well done to your son @pointythings.
In similar news my DS1 starts a new role on Monday. He's been a self employed musician for several years but has finally got a salaried role for 6 months in a German opera house. It should be the real start to his career.
Pity there are so few roles in the UK - but as a country we are really shit in terms of supporting classical music and opera.

How lovely to read good news.

PandoraSocks · 10/01/2026 10:32

Morning all! That is great news @pointythings .

Gorgeous day here but so icy underfoot. My poor Sainsbury's delivery man was struggling not to slip.

Yes it is. I've done all my washing, some clothes are on the line, but a rogue hanky managed to escape my not so meticulous search.

Planning our trip to Italy and Sicily today.

DuncinToffee · 10/01/2026 12:16

The sun is out and it showsjust how filthy our windows and car are Grin

Will leave that for another day, FA cup football to watch ⚽

Great news @pointythings and @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats !
You are right about the arts. It’s something we really excell at but we’ve allowed the idea that they are elitist and not for everyone to take hold and that makes them an easy target for funding cuts. It’s nonsense of course. We need to do better.

Whereabouts in Sicily are you going to? We had a few days in Catania in September. I wish we’d been there a bit longer, so we could have explored more places. We did a trip up to Etna, which was brilliant.

placemats · 10/01/2026 13:44

@BIWI Syracuse and Catania. We are definitely going to see Etna.

Eta we hope to fly back from Palermo. Take the night train from Rome to Scilly, they put the train on the ferry.

BIWI · 10/01/2026 14:03

Make sure you have decent trainers for Etna. I only had Teva walking sandals, which were OK, but a lot of the terrain (as well as being very uneven, as you’re walking on lava fields) is loose and gravelly, and can be hard to keep your footing.

BIWI · 10/01/2026 14:07

Also @placemats, as you can see from this thread:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/holidays/5408143-catania-tell-me-im-wrong?reply=147062351

… I wasn’t really that impressed with Catania! I’ll confess I hadn’t done much research/reading before we went, so I was expecting something a bit different. Your trip sounds much better than ours though!

Page 2 | Catania - tell me I’m wrong:( | Mumsnet

Here for a few days. First day today. Old town/centre is fine. The rest is shit. Dirty, rundown graffiti, litter.

Our base will now be Taromina @BIWI and thanks for the intel.
