About 4cm snow so far. Sky is an eerie glow.0.1C ....

Don’t know who sets them. But Musk could certainly insist that they are adjusted so that it doesn’t respond to requests to put women and children in bikinis, enlarge their bust or buttocks or put them in to sexual positions.

But you know, libertarians like the freedom to sexualise whoever they like.

I haven't seen any so didn't know that was done. I was targeted on bsky relentlessly by a maga type and left because I got fed up reporting it. His, assuming, timeline was full of horrible images.

Basically this is my safe place.

placemats · 08/01/2026 21:48

Nothing here yet re the storm. But we've had our snow days. Keep safe if you're in the zone.

PickAChew · 09/01/2026 00:01

Away from the storm up here. Sleety rain falling on ground that's been frosted over all day. It looks very shiny in places.

DuncinToffee · 09/01/2026 09:01

Wet and windy morning.

Leon has made changes to his grok abuse image generator by making it availabe to paying users only

“Pay me $8 a month and you can use my tech to create child sexual abuse imagery” might not be the PR win Elon Musk imagines it to be, y’know.

That's cheap - in both senses of the word

Wind chill of minus 4 and overcast with heavy rain and wind - really horrible weather but thankfully not the horrendous winds in Cornwall and the Scilly Isles

LlttledrummergirI · 09/01/2026 09:26

We had some rain last night, nothing unusual though.
Slightly disappointed, we had torches, candles and fully charged phones at the ready, and plans to hunker down.

Just a dreary start to the morning.

BIWI · 09/01/2026 10:24

I think I’d rather have snow than this dreary wet and windy stuff in Sar Lunnun.

LittleBowSheep · 09/01/2026 10:44

More snow last night but missed the high winds thankfully. Hope all is well with those of you who live in the affected areas. It did look pretty nasty.

Same, it’s cold, wet and dismal here. It’s making me feel a bit the same.

BestIsWest · 09/01/2026 10:45

Wind and heavy rain here. It was snowing heavily at one point but too wet to stock.

SerendipityJane · 09/01/2026 10:47

With tiresome predictability our online order has been cancelled.

About 10-15cm snow overnight. Which how now turned slushy and you cn hear the gutters dripping.

cardibach · 09/01/2026 11:22

No snow near Cardiff. Not much rain or wind either. It’s a feels like of -3 and grey I’ve been to the home and walked a dog and am now in the warm having a coffee. Dog tax attached - the style icon that is Dart.

Hope you and your loved ones are all safe and your property is in tact too.

No snow here, and the train I plan to catch this evening seems to be OK.

countrygirl99 · 09/01/2026 11:53

We've had a lot of rain and there's some surface water flooding. DH had a GP appointment this morning and had to try 3 routes before he got there.

cardibach · 09/01/2026 12:05

How odd @SerendipityJane !

We had wind chill of -10° this morning 🥶

Oooh that's cold

It's warmed up here now only minus 2!

It still won't save any pubs. It's not just economics, it's how people live.

See also: reviving the High Street.

You may as well try and subsidise telegrams.

I still think it's the right move though. Increasing business rates when pubs were already struggling is the opposite of helpful. They need to raise money somehow but it felt like pubs were unnecessary side casualties.

Any update on the Christmas tree @PandoraSocks ?

Any update on the Christmas tree @PandoraSocks ?

I think it made it safely to recycling! It really wasn't that windy in the end.

I always feel guilty about the demise of Christmas tree and end up apologising to it as I put it out.

DuncinToffee · 09/01/2026 13:50

😅We switched to fake when Homebase were selling them off just before closing down and it's now back in the loft

Just to add, it didn't mention Christmas tree on the box Wink

BIWI · 09/01/2026 13:50

I don’t feel bad - our council is very good about collecting the trees and then using them for compost in gardens/parks in the area.

To be very frank, I was glad to get rid of ours this year. And all the decorations. No idea why, as I love Christmas usually, but I was just irritated by all the clutter it created.

Bah humbug!

PandoraSocks · 09/01/2026 13:55

I think I still have unresolved trauma from reading The Little Christmas Tree by Hans Christian Anderson.

Eta: it was actually called The Fir Tree.
