Poll of 11,000 teachers' voting intentions, if there were an election tomorrow:

LAB 25%
GRN 20%
LD 13%
CONS 5%
RFM 2%

A poster on MN who 'works in the sector' has repeatedly claimed teachers are abandoning Lab, heavily implying a rise in support for parties on the right. The first bit may have a grain of truth ; the second appears to be codswallop.

Perhaps we should ask the Times to run an article ' Teachers turning to Green'? or 'Teachers stick with Labour' .I'm sure they'd run it.

The thing is when the media incessantly punt the view that another party is doing well, with invented numbers and no analysis, eventually it does breed a feeling in society that the government are somehow illegitimate. And that slowly corrodes away at the weak glue that stops us throwing bricks at each other as a form of debate.

BIWI · 10/01/2026 16:52

It’s also a reason why I (even as an ex-market researcher) really don’t think that opinion polls about voting intentions should be published. Too likely to ‘lead the witness'

But then you have the Daily Farage running a screaming headline about how they can't print "the truth".

Let's face it. Our generation is 100% fucked. Our childrens generation probably about 75% fucked and their childrens 50%. fucked.

You'd need at least 2 generations to experience social stability - especially in terms of technology and information - before the ship will start to right itself.

Crikey, Jane. That is gloomy.

I have spent the afternoon finishing my tax return. Brain is fried.

BIossomtoes · 10/01/2026 18:04

Thank God I don’t have to do that any more. It’s one of life’s great stressors.

It is. But done now! I think I need a 🍸

The sun is out and it showsjust how filthy our windows and car are Grin

Will leave that for another day, FA cup football to watch ⚽

Well done to Macclesfield. That's a historic win and yes it was frosty in Cheshire today.

PandoraSocks · 11/01/2026 09:41

Morning. I have just been reading the latest thread about Renee Good. Some of the posts are disgusting, from regular Mumsnetters that I recognise. I will never see them in the same way again. But also lots of regulars pushing back hard.

@LlttledrummergirI you have tried to stem the tide of lies, well done.

I made a NYR resolution to spend less time on MN. It is proving challenging with everything that's going on. Need to make more effort!

I think someone on here recommended The Great Escaper. We watched it last night. Caine and Jackson were just so good. Jackson especially. She looked so frail though. What a great woman she was. But how the fuck did Dan Hodges turn out the way he did?

Have a lovely Sunday all. We will need a new thread soon.

BIossomtoes · 11/01/2026 09:48

It’s a brilliant film, isn’t it? I loved it.

I wonder how much the “poll” has affected MN? I suspect it may have emboldened some longstanding posters and attracted a number of new ones.

DuncinToffee · 11/01/2026 09:49

We watched it a whie back, it's a lovely story

Those 3 threads are horrible, it's a small but loud group of posters.

Starmer-(un)dressed to kill

(not really being serious, but apparently people have been using Grok to put Starmer in a bikini).

DuncinToffee · 11/01/2026 10:04

Unlike what they do to women then

OP posts:
PandoraSocks · 11/01/2026 10:13

Anyone who uses that tool or thinks it is funny is despicable. Musk put himself in a bikini which makes it OK according to some on X as it shows it is all "just a laugh". People are really thick if they can't understand the difference between putting yourself in a bikini and doing it (or worse) to others without their consent.

placemats · 11/01/2026 10:52

Suggestions for new title. Midwinter "Alban Arthan". Light returning.

cardibach · 11/01/2026 10:54

I loved The Great Escaper. Michael Caine’s character, and the way he moved, reminded me so much of my late dad.
Weather permitting I’m off to a Hen Galan (Old NY) event later with a Mari Lwyd. I’m not up for standing in the rain though. I’m aware it’s a few days early - I’m guessing it’s because it’s the weekend.
Mari Lwyd, for anyone who is unfamiliar with the tradition (basically a rap battle with a horse’s skull to preserve your beer). Wales in winter…

The midwinter majesty of the Mari Lwyd

The Mari Lwyd

Jude Rogers uncovers the origins of one of Wales' most eerie midwinter traditions, the Mari Lwyd.

Thank you @PandoraSocks. I would really prefer to stay well away, but feel very strongly that the rubbish needs to be challenged.
I try and do something nice in between posts though.

I will probably just hang around on the nicer threads (like this one) once the noise settles again though. Hopefully i will still see you on here Smile

I have a costume party this afternoon at the dc sports club so that will refill my cup. Being with 100 very happy, excited and competitive dc for games and trophies will refill my cup.

BIossomtoes · 11/01/2026 11:53

I’ve just watched Mandleson do his Uriah Heep tribute act on Kuenssberg, it was utterly sickening. Ffs what’s the matter with these arrogant tossers that they won’t apologise?

Evenstar · 11/01/2026 14:00

@BIossomtoes I agree, but wonder if he has taken legal advice and decided an apology could be seen as an admission of guilt, probably for worse things than have yet come to light.

Also I may be late realising this but Louis Mosley who was on the panel as the U.K. head of Palantir is the grandson of Oswald Mosley, disturbing in the light of its shadowy activities and support for J D Vance in the USA

placemats · 11/01/2026 14:42

Uriah Heap is an interesting character in the novel David Copperfield and Mandleson has certainly the same characteristics @BIossomtoes It's quite obvious to all what exactly is his personality.

Thanks for the correct spelling - I got my uxorious Dickens character mixed up with my 70s rock band!

DuncinToffee · 11/01/2026 15:31

I thought they were both 'Heep'?
