Are you the police? Or are you saying things you know nothing about?

Are you new to online forums?

MyThreeWords · 15/12/2025 10:48

Sadly the first thing I did when I heard they had both been stabbed was google to see whether they had a mentally ill son.

I'm not sure of the stats re fathers, but one in ten women murdered by a man in the UK are killed by their own son.

I would imagine that in addition to addiction, the son is suffering from a psychotic disorder. Dreadfully, horribly sad for all involved.

The thread police are out in force today, must be on double time or something!

Very sad. It’s no coincidence that many children of wealthy Liberals become troubled and are often drug addicts.

Seriously? That’s your takeaway? Please don’t.

We're all individuals and therefore we all think and feel differently.

Well yes, most of us knowing we were wrong when leaping to a conclusion the first time would probably hesitate to do it again. Not so much you

MannersAreAll · 15/12/2025 11:22

The first news reports said two people found dead, both brutally stabbed. A person committing suicide by brutally stabbing themself seems highly unlikely.

The first news report I saw simply said they'd both been found dead and police were investigating. It didn't mention stabbing or anything like that.

I'll be honest, my first two thoughts were burglary or murder-suicide.

When the later one added that they'd both been stabbed it ruled out murder-suicide, but that absolutely wasn't in the first report I saw.

Murder suicide is the most likely scenario (alongside carbon monoxide poisoning) when a couple die like this. Just because it doesn’t seem to be the case here, doesn’t mean it’s an unreasonable thing for people to have speculated, particularly when the police/ bbc etc aren’t reporting about the son yet.

So as stated you didn't read the thread..

I don’t know what most people would do as I’m not a mind reader of billions of people. No idea why you want to police this thread.

Must have missed that rule change 🙄

Or even the 1st post.

Joined the thread hours after seeing the news on tv

Was simply commenting that the first news reports where I am didn't include any detail about stabbing

Well, you should surely read the thread or at least the 1st post before commenting?

Otherwise what's the point of a forum like MN?

If you haven't even read the 1st post or 1st few posts WTF do you think you're commenting on?

MannersAreAll · 15/12/2025 11:38

I didn't even comment on the first post.

I commented in reply to someone posting that the first news reports included the stabbing detail.

That isn't the case everywhere. Hence my comment.

Zero need for your level of rudeness or aggression.

Otherwise what's the point of a forum like MN?

To have discussions.

Sometimes about how differently things are reported when something happens... for example

YouAreIn · 15/12/2025 11:41

Jeez, how come half the threads these days end up in stupid derailment and petty arguing? Why are people arguing over nothing? We have now been made aware that their son did it, why are people still bickering like 6 year olds?

MannersAreAll · 15/12/2025 11:42

I’m in LA, so different news carriers.

Definitely explains it.

Here the BBC website still doesn't have any mention of stabbing, just that they were found dead. Sky have said they were found stabbed to death.

Tcateh · 15/12/2025 11:42

Holluschickie · 15/12/2025 06:37

I have no words really, for the plight of their daughter.
This reminds me of Nick Cave. So often creative geniuses are often concealing deep sorrow.

How does this remind you of Nick Cave?

Tcateh · 15/12/2025 11:42

Nick Cave lost 2 sons to drugs and mental illness. Not the same, of course. But he has written a lot about the difficulties of parenting them.

Why don’t people read the thread before posting?!

Because MN is a microcosm of the real world - as above so below. Yes, there are some fairly dim people out there too.

What a shit cherry to put on the top of the turd tart that has been 2025. Spinal Tap is a sublimely perfect film - one of the few that simply doesn't put a foot wrong in any department.

RIP

Stop being hysterical (and passive aggressive). There’s no unspoken law saying people have to read an entire thread before posting (or have to feel or think a certain way).

Not2identifying · 15/12/2025 11:57

Horrifying news. I read about it first thing this morning (from the UK) and the DM reported the deaths (by stabbing) and then explained that they had a son who has experienced bouts of homelessness and drug addiction since he was 15. They didn't, at that time, spell it out but I did understand the implication.

I feel so sorry for Rob, Michele and their other children.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 15/12/2025 08:32

So why did you ask this question here, rather than going off and looking at official sources?

EleanorReally · Today 07:08
why is there no person or interest ?

That is still what the official news is saying, no one arrested and no persons of interest. It may well have been the son or not. False news and rumours are still a big problem. Nice to know what people are saying, but await the mainstream media for confirmation.

Right- so what are you going on about about your 1st thoughts on a thread titled Rob Reiner and his wife MURDERED at 03.53 am MN time giving a source then 18 minutes later giving another source saying it was the son?

You stroll in 7 hours later saying that information wasn't available to you before you joined the thread but it was IN THE THREAD in the 1st few posts hours before you posted.

It's not 'thread policing' to expect people to be functionally literate and read posts before commenting.

There is literally no point in a 'discussion' where people haven't bothered to read the posts. Because then it's not a 'discussion', it's just people forming opinions based on no or inaccurate information.
