Very late to the thread, Welsh tax from Trecco Bay for me, splendid few days - you know you've had a good time when you come away with no voice.
@Evenstar sorry to hear your news, hugs and Flowers to you.

@BIWI hope DH is home and recovering comfortably.
I've been away from MN mostly while we've been away, not sure I want to venture too far tbh. Off to catch up

My uncle used to have a caravan at Trecco. It was legendary during miners’ fortnight!

Of course the Netherlands are home to the Strandbeest

(I may have posted this before suggesting the real reason the small boats are down - the asylum seekers are simply being walked onto our shores by FOREIGN MECHANICAL MONSTERS

You know you could get GBNews to actually report that if you could keep a straight face red enough for long.

We have a while before we need to think about thread titles. Maybe the rapture will have us all speak backwards

I’ll be ok. I’m pretty good at the backwards round on Richard Osman’s House of Games.

SerendipityJane · 30/11/2025 16:35

UK leads world in anti drone tech (ahead of the US by years).

How often do you hear Americans breathless over anything the UK does ?

(remember this is about 5 years behind whatever they have in the pipeline)

LlttledrummergirI · 30/11/2025 16:54

Late tax, shamelessly stolen from ds2 when he stayed near Pen Y Fan. This is from one of the walks he did.

Eerga.

When we were in Primary school we had a secret code for writing: easiest was backwards and the hardest was a back and forth of the alphabet. Primary 4 in Northern Irish, so now translates to Key stage 2 year 3.

Of course so far we are talking about Latinate languages.

I can still remember my ancient Greek alphabet to a certain point (very useful if you "do" science).

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/11/2025 17:32

Your Party seems to have decided on collective leadership rather than a single leader. This will in no way backfire resulting in endless hilarity.

I can't see anyone in the Labour party quaking in Their Boots.

cardibach · 30/11/2025 17:35

I love that Sultana’s first speech was attacking others at the top. Nuts. But also annoying because many of Corbyn's policies whilst Labour leader would be unremarkable in most of Northern Europe. It’s the complete inability to organise which is the issue.

PandoraSocks · 30/11/2025 18:00

Speaking as a lefty, the left really are hopeless at times. It is so frustrating. As you say @RafaistheKingofClay , it will be hilarious carnage. They'll have committees to decide what brand of loo paper to use at Your Party HQ.

If Your Party exists at the next GE, I will be very surprised.

I see what you did there.

SerendipityJane · 30/11/2025 18:03

Hardly surprising for a philosophy that elevates the individual.

They only lasted 24hrs without a row when there were 2 of them. An entire committee has endless opportunity for splitting. Especially since I don’t think either Sultana or Corbyn are eligible to be on the committee.

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats I hope that someone will be speaking to the person who read the intercessions, that should be unacceptable in any church.

Sadly in recent months I have become aware of misogynistic, homophobic and Islamaphobic views in my own church, due to DH’s illness I am scaling down my volunteering considerably and will be able to spend less time with these people. Unfortunately they include the leadership team and I would have thought of moving church, but it is very much the wrong time for me to do that.

One person has expressed approval of Donald Trump in particular his immigration policy ☹️ on more than one occasion, I am afraid that TR and his fans might not be as unwelcome as one would hope in some churches.

I can't imagine those intersessions in a Catholic Church or High Anglican.

However, despite the local Methodist Church being based on support for all those who need it, there's some very suspect people there - I hear them talking in the garden next to me.

Evenstar · 30/11/2025 18:23

@placemats that’s dreadful, I hate how bigoted people now feel free to speak openly about their prejudices.

SerendipityJane · 30/11/2025 18:25

Interested and amused to see a friend who - hitherto - has avoided any politics in SM postings has just posted a link to the Russian Interference parliamentary petition.

Curiouser and curiouser..

At least we know what kind of people they really are now. Small comfort, though.

Absolutely wouldn’t get through in ours. I’d imagine our priest would be having strong words with anyone who tried it. They’d probably find themselves the subject of next week’s homily.

Hilarious video by a South African knobhead desperately willing a pleasant London street to be a war zone. Nearest he gets to danger is a woman telling him to stop talking nonsense.

There is a PCC meeting tomorrow. I'm sending an appropriately worded email for them to discuss under AOB. Should be interesting since the intecessor under discussion is a PCC member. 😲
We are in an interregnum at present. Our previous vicar wasn't a Brit so nobody would have dared come out with this shit previously.
