Even our [cough] esteemed Council leaders are horrified.

Chainsaws are loud. This isn't a remote area. Maybe the houses have excellent insulation against heat and noise.

The Reverend Eatock-Taylor needs to go back to vicar school. ‘Woke literati’ my tinselly arse.

Here is a bit from his sermon

God forbid.

This church has alternative episcopal oversight and doesn't accept women clergy authority

The last bit is odd though because he seems to be making the opposite point. I guess it’s just really difficult to spin Jesus as right wing, anti-immigrant Reform…

placemats · 13/12/2025 13:56

Look I'm going to call it. The Rev Henry Eatock-Taylor is a news presenter's nightmare. We all remember the Jeremy Hunt fiasco as well as Farage 'personality cult'. Also:

DuncinToffee · 13/12/2025 12:36

No mentioning of immigration status or religion?

Nah. They'll be the usual sort who have been vandalising Christmas trees, benches, playgrounds and pretty much everything they can get at in East Durham for decades.

RafaistheKingofClay · 13/12/2025 15:34

I’ve just started watching on Twitter live. Bloody hell. Swear someone has just said ‘celebrate Christmas as Jesus did.’ I’ve got some news about that…

It’s all giving very American televangelism vibes so far.

RafaistheKingofClay · 13/12/2025 15:47

There are a lot of people not joining in with the singing. I’m going to stick my neck out and suggest that not all of these people are here to sing carols.

And ‘I’m going to stand up and protect the innocent children of this country’ is a dog whistle even the deafest dog could hear I suspect.

DuncinToffee · 13/12/2025 15:53

White Christmas is likely to be the popular one

I just watched a little bit. You are right about the singing.

Very young evangelist prattling on. Mentioned the commercialisation of Christmas. Camera immediately panned to a woman wearing a light up Christmas hat.🤣

Then the camera focused on the stunted racist, who was trying hard to look moved. Weird expression on his face as if he was desperate for something...

Very faint shadow of the people living near the gas chambers could smell the bodies being burned

How can they complain about commercialisation, I thought Christmas was cancelled 🤔

Now we are getting to the heart of it - go and find a church , since the Church of England doesn’t want you go and find a church that wants you.

That’s not very unifying now is it? That isn’t the first dig they have taken at the CofE this afternoon. There is a list of churches they have directed people to but as far as I’m aware the pack put together to counter the messages UTK have been giving was one by the Baptist, Methodist and United Reform churches. And they had the support of CTE which rules about 52 churches.

If this is the way they are going, I think they are going to have a hard time trying to unite the kingdom against the CofE.

It's also curious they believe the English population are so affected by christianity in England. Almost as if they are working to an agenda put together by a committee who (a) don't quite get it and (b) no one dare contradict.

Now who fits those criteria ?

Saucery · 13/12/2025 17:34

I think that as there is at least one Carol Concert in just about every city, town and village in England, their claim that ChRiSTmAs iS cAnCELlED!! ain’t fooling anyone. Flag-bestrewn eyesore that my area now is, most people are just quietly getting on with their personal versions of Christmas, none of which involve putting their musical talents behind Tommy Ten Names. The first pub in the village near me to put flags up has now replaced them with their usual jaunty-angled Christmas trees. 🎄

Howtoaccept · 13/12/2025 17:52

I’m a Catholic and I doubt they’d want to attend my church when they saw the range of people attending and skin colour (including me.)

They might feel safer to voice their horrid views in the church where I grew up, a lot whiter and rural. Until they find out the ethnicity of the reader, hear the sermons and find out about the outreach days for refugees from the nearest city and that a lot volunteering there.

RafaistheKingofClay · 13/12/2025 18:00

Tommy’s Xmas spirit seems to have dried up. He’s back to calling people rtrds on Twitter.

I’m intrigued by this whole idea about getting our country back by importing some sort of American politics/nationalism. This Christian nationalism is just the latest version. Farage has been on this bandwagon for a while. There’s something fundamentally unBritish about it and I wonder whether it has a ceiling because it pushes away more people than it attracts.

The ceiling for SYL’s brand of politics is lower than for reform but it is still there. Suspect Farage knows this and he’ll want to try and row back and get reform doing something like that UKIP manifesto that was fairly popular. I’m not sure the rest of his MPs and the reform leadership are aware.

Saucery · 13/12/2025 18:02

Similar, @Howtoaccept . I’m not sure about the modern evangelical churches that have sprung up and I’m quite possibly doing them a disservice, but Catholic and (High) Anglican…..have these racist flumps ever been to a service? They are going to be sorely disappointed if they do.

SerendipityJane · 13/12/2025 18:23

I’m intrigued by this whole idea about getting our country back by importing some sort of American politics/nationalism.

Americans have built their entire persona on the total bollocks they fled British oppression to be free. When the reality is most American settlers really fled the relative religious tolerance of Britain and were no great loss to the country,

MaybeNotBob · 13/12/2025 18:35

Which is why you can almost understand why they can be fooled into this mental "Christian Nationalism" thing.

Hopefully we're not quite so gullible over here, but then we did vote for Brexit...
