A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

We are bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

at mum's watching live I think? Not sure. I don't have live TV at home. And this would've been running very late if I was watching it live.

i've never seen anything like it after a budget? but I don't watch this stuff these days

Rachel's jacket is the same colour as a lovely evening top I just bought. That's unfortunate. I don't want to think of the budget every time I wear that.

Thanks just picked up on that 2% rise
That will affect all savers relying on the money for income. More so pensioners as they have no other way of increasing their earnings

Wonder why that one was never leaked

OBR documents indicate, the rate of income tax on savings interest will rise in April 2027.If you bust your personal savings allowance, basic rate taxpayers will pay 22% on interest, higher rate taxpayers 42% and additional rate taxpayers 47%.This is a rise of 2% across the board.

Sarah Coles, head of personal finance, Hargreaves Lansdown: “This is a really shocking tax rise for savers. If the Budget speech includes a cut to the cash ISA allowance it will mean there’s a risk more people will be saving outside a tax-efficient environment and be exposed to this new tax rate.
The personal savings allowance will still protect the first £1,000 of savings interest for basic rate taxpayers and £500 of interest for higher rate taxpayer, but after that people will face a hike in their tax bill.
It’s going to be more important than ever to take advantage of cash ISAs, where all your savings are protected from tax. The change to the cash ISA allowance will not happen overnight so there is still an opportunity to take advantage of your allowance this year.”

Does this affect money in bonds etc ?

You can use money market funds inside an ISA which are cash equivalent up to your £20k limit.

Sick Burn GIF by MOODMAN

I just read it. She's killing it!

MantleStatue · 26/11/2025 14:04

Was that the one about the dog laughing?

have to say- Kemi seemed eloquent, coherent and resolute.

She really is finding her feet.

Upstartled · 26/11/2025 14:07

Beth Rigby has said that an MP speaking to her privately described this as a budget for self preservation and not for the country. That is what we are paying billions and billions for, so they can bribe their own backbenchers.

NoWordForFluffy · 26/11/2025 14:08

Catatemyhomework · 26/11/2025 12:48

Well that's us screwed then

It's not until 2029. Hopefully things will be better for you by then.

Yes Times Radio saying exactly this. Saving Reeves and Starmer’s skins.

Brilliant. Finally I hear what I think pretty much everywhere.

Love Kemi. She’s better than pretty much anyone else in that place.

It wasn't clear because the camera didn't show it but there's a guide dog there for a LibDem MP, so maybe that?

£13bn for more unwanted mayors!

I just read it. She's killing it!

Yep just found bbc updates to read. I can’t listen in. Loved this first comment I picked up before Badenoch took the stand.

“”Rachel Reeves has finished, and sits down to a large pat on the back from Prime Minister Keir Starmer while the rest of the Labour benches wave white papers and cheer.” 🤣🤣

delusional !!

given

The OBR says the government's tax take will reach an all-time high of 38% of GDP in 2030-31 - while growth forecasts have been downgraded after this year

Budget 2025 live: Rachel Reeves unveils tax rises and end of two-child benefit cap

Tory leader Kemi Badenoch calls the chancellor's Budget a "total humiliation" and says Reeves is hiking taxes to pay for welfare.

EmeraldRoulette · 26/11/2025 14:11

@SpaceRaccoon I think it's a follow on from making local authorities bigger, which I'm not happy about either.

redange · 26/11/2025 14:13

Kemi giving the speech of her life. Well done Kemi. I have previously said when the Labour Government are replaced most likely by Reform we will need the best people to get us out of the mess. We need to work for the good of the country not against each other due to 'factionalism' within two parties. Thus, Kevin Hollinrake post was very 'stupid' and only offered advantage to our real enemies.

Rivalled · 26/11/2025 14:13

Or, is it a bung to Burnham not to parachute himself into a seat?

Says Reeves is on course to be the UK's worst chancellor in history.

Is drowned out by laughter at the remembrance of Kwasi Kwarteng

The Andy Burnham that has so much in common with Norfolk.

AlexandraBee · 26/11/2025 14:16

Anyone that couldn’t watch it, I’d make time to watch Kemis full speech on iPlayer later. FFW Reeves obv. KB speech best I’ve heard in HoC for a while.

Agreed. You need to watch or listen for the mocking tones.

"Sorry to interrupt your cheerios" 🤣🤣🤣

Fantastic from Kemi. This budget will be an electoral disaster for Labour 👍
