Thinking today of all those who lost someone unnecessarily, especially my cousin who couldn’t be with her dad when he was dying, my friend who had to sit in a car park with three of her siblings as her mother was dying with her sister holding a phone up so they could see her.

Johnson and his team at No 10 should be pariahs for the rest of their lives for what they did.

Edited

I am so sorry.

I didn't personally lose anyone, but a beautiful, brilliant , funny young colleague of mine died. He was only in his 30s.

PandoraSocks · 20/11/2025 17:03

Also, how many cases of long covid could have been prevented?

Good point. People's lives have been devastated. I hate Johnson with every fibre of my being quite frankly.

Notonthestairs · 20/11/2025 17:07

Yes, it’s not just the original delay (No 10 seems to have taken February half term off FFS) but not learning from that later in the year and repeating mistakes.
And it wasn’t just closing schools that will have had consequences - it’s all the surrounding support that takes place in schools like SLT. No physio appointments for disabled kids. etc. No in person assessments. It all has a significant knock on impact then and now.

And before anyone reading labels me a lockdown lover - lockdown brought nothing but misery to my household and ruined my (then) fledgling business. There was no time to piss about with sourdough or whatever.

I didn’t expect them to have all the answers. I don’t think anyone did. But to pay attention and be responsive.

Evenstar · 20/11/2025 17:07

So sorry to hear that @PandoraSocks, I also knew a young woman who died in her early thirties leaving two young boys.

That is so, so sad.

A “toxic and chaotic” culture inside Boris Johnson’s Downing Street – which it said the then PM. actively embraced – in which loudest voices held sway and women were sidelined.

But he was a lovely clever buffoon with funny hair Hmm

That bastard took this country to the brink and never intended to take it back. Incompetent? No. He was negligent and happily so. His so called stint in hospital was the worst stunt I've ever seen. Cummings did the eyesight thing to detract.

The amount of people I know who had a similar tragic experience was off the scale.

No wonder so many young children and adults struggle now.

Spot on from James O’Brien

Sorry for all those who lost loved ones and friends and colleagues. It was horrendous.

i still had to wear a face mask when visiting my mum in her final days in the hospice in May 2022.

I still wonder if we had a grip on it earlier if my final conversation with her would have been with her seeing my face.

Sorry to those who lost businesses too.

not I agree with everything you posted.

BIossomtoes · 20/11/2025 17:47

O’Brien is always spot on.

Notonthestairs · 20/11/2025 17:59

It was appalling journalism in the sense that it distorted or ignored hard truths. Like the UK being financially much worse off outside of the EU.

But not appalling when you remember who those journalists work for and what they want from the UK. Then you realise those journalist/editors fulfilled their roles very well.

I see Popbitch quotes the lovely Matthew Goodwin as saying that Reform would likely fuck up their first term, but that whatever came after would be interesting.
God help us.

£25,000 gone missing

I post the story for this gem:

HMRC cited her on a list of "deliberate tax defaulters" who had purposely not paid tax bills over £25,000.

I wonder how much that totals up to ?

Bonus points for the comedy duck face.

I really wouldn't want to have to wait for the "interesting" bit, as if that would be better than what came before.

That is so, so sad.

We lost two colleagues in that first wave. Both women in their thirties with young children.

I agree. Looking at the destruction Teump has wrought in less than a year, I really don't want Reform to have 5 years of fucking things up time.

ilovesooty · 20/11/2025 18:40

I see we've already got "What would 2 tier Keir have done" and "Keir's beer". How fucking predictable.

Piggywaspushed · 20/11/2025 18:44

And Covid deaths weren't real...

Piggywaspushed · 20/11/2025 18:44

And Covid deaths weren't real...

Yes, that too.

PandoraSocks · 20/11/2025 18:48

Also the Johnson apologists plus the "inquiry was a waste of time and money".

🤬

bombastix · 20/11/2025 19:00

I also heartily disliked the government’s COVID response and lockdown. Scaring the hell out of half the country, ruining education, mental health of many people greatly affected. Johnson was just incompetent and the damage was appalling.

All that performance of clapping, pots and pans being banged, crawling around supermarkets, police arresting people for basic human interaction. Yuk. Nothing this government will do will ever touch that for sheer repressive power

placemats · 20/11/2025 19:06

Lockdown should have happened sooner. Super spreader events were allowed to happen in a matter of two weeks which caused thousands of deaths. Unforgivable.

placemats · 20/11/2025 19:07

Piggywaspushed · 20/11/2025 18:44

Disgusting.

DuncinToffee · 20/11/2025 19:10

Not surprised the apologists have come out in force, "it was only cake and everyone partied but dancing nurses were a disgrace."

O’Brien is always spot on.

Agree & the appalling journalism is flourishing Reform & the racists are handed the microphone & oxygen with the poison they spew & replicated sometimes word for word on MN.
I often wonder if the last government had received even some of the vitriol/outrage press that largely hated them ignoring of anything good that had been achieved would they have lasted fourteen years.
I am truly sorry those of you that suffered during covid it was an awful awful time💐
