Best wishes to you and your husbands BIWI and Evenstar. Will be keeping fingers crossed for positive news.

Thought Lewis Goodall gave Torsten Bell a reasonable work out on the Newsagents. Pleased about the 2 child cap. Ring fence on capital investment is critical. I think Reeves has created enough headroom that hopefully will be useful before the next election.

I remain as ever furious that Brexit has cost the UK so dearly.

No implosion of the world then?
Home from To Kill A Mockingbird and it was excellent. We both cried. Enjoy tomorrow @cardibach. The drive back home along the M4 was horrible though.

Re Aaron Sorkin, I see The West Wing is starting on Netflix so I may start another rewatch. A dose of sanity.

Good luck to your DH @BIWI

Went to see that adaptation with my Dad. Loved it!

RafaistheKingofClay · 26/11/2025 21:56

The VAT on school fees doesn’t seem to have caused the world to end either.

Anyway, more focused on home issues. DH off to hospital this evening for a procedure on his brain tomorrow. Seems rather more important right now - call me selfish!

Best of luck to your husband! 💐

PandoraSocks · 26/11/2025 17:23

Hello, we are all still here, then? I am in Scotland (on a little holiday, in a motability car😱) so was preparing to apply for asylum if the rest of the UK had gone up in smoke.

Have a nice break!

RafaistheKingofClay · 27/11/2025 00:23

I stepped outside. I’m coming back in.

LlttledrummergirI · 27/11/2025 08:37

The gotchas are back with a vengeance at the moment. No reasoned debate but plenty of unhelpful hyperbole. I'd stay here.

TheOnlyMrsW · 27/11/2025 08:40

Best of luck to your DH's @BIWI & @Evenstar, relieved to report that Porthcawl is still here and 14 degrees warmer than home yesterday morning.......

BIossomtoes · 27/11/2025 08:44

It’s fucking bonkers out there this morning.

Lalgarh · 27/11/2025 08:51

David Blunkett likes it, if that's any consolation

dontcallmelen · 27/11/2025 08:51

@BIWI hope all goes well very best wishes for you & Dh
@Evenstar I hope the waiting will be over very soon & news will be positive 💐💕

Evenstar · 27/11/2025 08:52

Not just on here 🙄

You just got to laugh.

Shame Labour opted for a timid budget.

The immigration figures will be out at 9.30 and will show a further fall.

Lying Jimmy Hill GIF

It's better out there with the bingo card that the 3 word usernames used to generate their incoherent rants.

And mentally replying with this.

Efacsen · 27/11/2025 09:10

Lots and lots of 'concern' about lifting children out of poverty = 'feckless parents' squandering their 'handouts' and having loads of additional children esp immigrant parents who have larger families. Ugh

It's worse than yesterday

PandoraSocks · 27/11/2025 09:11

Well I have had a bit of time to digest and I will be a bit worse off. Don't know how the Motability changes will affect us when we next renew the lease.

@TheOnlyMrsW we drove from S Wales yesterday. It was lovely and Sunny. Not so on the journey! Enjoy Porthcawl.

@Notonthestairs @BIWI sending you both 💐

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats @BIossomtoes and others, I too wish RR had been bolder.

I have hidden a few threads. What is being said about the lifting of the two child benefit cap is particularly disgusting. On a parenting site as well.

Who are these people who write such hate? It is one thing being opposed to lifting the cap, another to dehumanise benefit claimants.

DuncinToffee · 27/11/2025 09:12

What's the biggest outrage?

Lifting children out of poverty or mansion tax

Yes. The covert and overt racism is vile. Where has this narrative come from that benefit claimants and Muslims are Labour's main voter base?

The same press that celebrated the Truss budget and are loving Farage

Sorry, meant to @Evenstar instead of @Notonthestairs , though you are still welcome to💐 not!

Evenstar · 27/11/2025 09:22

Speaking of Liz Truss 😂

IIRC the original research by the Joseph Rowntree foundation when the cap was first applied showed that religious parents tend to have larger families and would be disproportionately affected - tho' didn't particularly highlight Muslim parents

But doesnt Nige want us to have more children, falling birth rate and all that, but is it only the 'right sort' that need to breed more?
