Pied a Terre shoes. I spent a fortune (repeatedly) in their Covent Garden shop when I was a new grad working in London. Their shoes were just amazing. They sold the brand to Nine West in 1996 and that was the end of that. 😥

Haha, I had a Saturday job in the one on South Molten Street! I do agree, their shoes were brilliant, there's nowhere that actually competes with them nowadays. I do think that part of PaT's problem was that they overstretched themselves both in terms of stores and range - they had twenty stores, possibly more, three shoes ranges and the clothes - Karen Millen was their original clothing designer. Once she left to establish her own brand, their clothing took a major nose dive. Am sure part of the reason they sold was due to debt/lack of cash. Anita or maybe it was Nigel, went on to advise Jigsaw with their footwear for a time, but that was some time ago.

Occasionally I do spot a shoe that is identical to something PaT did. Such a loss.

I grew up in a village with a high street full of independent, family-owned shops like a bakery, a card and gift shop, a sports shop and a toy shop. They’ve vanished now. I feel lucky to have grown up in that kind of village

All of these.

I still remember getting shoes from the Berties just off Long Acre in my teens and feeling so special because there wasn't one in my hometown, so no-one else would have them. London seemed so exciting then!
