A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

We are bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I had supper with the gay lawyers last night very clued up and we were discussing what’s going on. So the next leader of Labour cd be Rayner or Milliband this will be even worse we all agreed. Even more the fact they will lose their seats to Reform which causes a bigger problem Burnham can’t be parachuted into a safe seat as that is bad form. Starmer could do a snap election if he seems he’s going down in flames hence Farage saying 2026/27 election either way hold onto your hats.

I love getting the goss from your well connected friends. Its going to be a bumpy ride, no doubt about that. I can't contemplate Ed or Ange as PM. Shudder.

Good morning!

New joiner here. My background - a long time Labour voter. Now, hugely disenfranchised with the current government, who I thought were going to deliver great things for the UK. We have suffered financially at home, and dread what is coming with the budget.

I work in finance and am keen to add to your thread where I can.

PS. Very impressive thread longevity and content!

Welcome! I have also voted mostly Labour including on the most recent election, admittedly tactically to keep the SNP out.
Regretting that rather 😆

Morning!

Welcome, @SouthernAccents. 👋

@Parsley4321, if Starmer clings on, I can't imagine him agreeing to parachute Burnham in anywhere, as he won't want him to become an MP! I'm not sure that Burnham is as popular with the public as he imagines he is in his own head, tbh.

9 days til the budget...how much can they fuck the markets up between now and then?!

In other news...0° here this morning. 🥶 Some cars were frozen.

Shame, I respect them both.

Me too. I'd breathe a sigh of relief if either of them took over from Starmer.

Ed was, still is, and always will be, the wrong Milliband!

This implies there's a right Milliband 😀

Indeed. What plays well in Manchester likely won't translate.

It's freezing here but it has been for days - well jel of people who were posting that they hadn't put the heating on yet because it was 16 degrees.

Frozen cars here too this morning. Winter is coming, in more ways than one. 9 days to go.

I do think that David is far superior to Ed. And was shafted by his brother. 🙄 Do we know if they get on?! 😬

SpaceRaccoon · 17/11/2025 08:31

Would I be lowering the tone if I mentioned that David Milliband is hot?

We've had it unseasonably warm for a bit. It definitely turned last week though, and even more this week.

No. He's easy on the eye alright. 😁

Ha at this David v Ed was a sliding doors moment for sure.

@SouthernAccents

Welcome. I’d say I veer more to the left, but think there needs to be an ebb and flow between left/right.
What I don’t want is the alternative current top of the polls, or UK to move towards segregation/division in our communities.
I also think a European comparison is so important. We constantly think we are the worst, but I don’t think we are.
The world has felt financial pressure since Covid.

Edited

Thank you for your welcome.

Sorry, but I otherwise disagree with some of what you say.

-1c here today and my weather app says there's a chance of snow from Wednesday through to Sunday 🥶

Yes, not long to go until the budget now. At least then we'll have a fighting chance of knowing what's what.

There was an article in the Telegraph this morning with retailers pulling their hair out with this late budget and advertisers losing revenue as those retailers lose confidence that the general public will come to the Christmas party and push them into the black. The treasury's response may have well been an eye roll and a fake yawn. They don't get it or they don't care.

I'd be interested to know how they get on now too. Especially with how EM'S leadership went

😂 hmm 🧐. I’m not sure about ‘hot’. But it’s all relative. It must have been difficult for little Ed, growing up with a better looking and more intelligent brother. Constant comparisons, always coming last. The psychological impact of that imprinting from a young age, is real. And now we all suffer the consequence. Similar in a way, to Bridget and Rachel.

Ed says they get on brilliantly still. David refuses (in a diplomatic way) to comment..

"It's the wrong Milliband Gromit, and he's gone wrong!"

percypiggy200 · 17/11/2025 09:08

Just looked up David Milliband wondering what he’s doing now - he’s president and CEO of the international rescue committee - a global humanitarian aid organizing - on a salary of $1.25 million a year! Not sure how I feel about an aid organization paying a CEO that much

redange · 17/11/2025 09:12

I was not a fan of both Milibands agreed David was better, i do not think David would be great in the Private Sector away from NGO's or charities ! Nick Clegg however, was only ever playing at Politics he was always destined to be a big player in Globalist Companies.

Nick Cleggs career is indeed stratospheric. David isn't doing badly though.

redange · 17/11/2025 09:17

It also says a lot that about politics and the Government in general that a competent man like Nick Clegg would at present be a god send to this Government.

Retailer here it’s bloody tough if I break even I’ll be lucky x
