A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

We are bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

MPs will need to vote, so there is a possibility of rebellion

There is also the very real possibility that these changes will bring legal challenge, somewhat ironically on ECHR grounds.

Good points.

SouthernAccents · 17/11/2025 10:58

Bloody hell - just reading the Guardian.

They are not happy, not happy at all.

TheNuthatch · 17/11/2025 11:04

EasternStandard · 17/11/2025 10:44

Rayner will surely be mobilising MPs on this. Powell maybe. Some quotes from others already coming up.

Its a gamble if they rebel it’s game over.

Edited

Powell will be making hay with this.

Times Radio
‘betrayal of Labour values’ Labour MP

‘A real level of disgust’ in MPs too. Looking dicey

Thanks for all the updates on the thread this morning.
I'm on site today, so you are my eyes and ears. Sounds like Starmer has more trouble brewing with his MPs. Smile

And they will be even less happy when they lose the next GE.

True though. This isn't what Labour MPs signed up for. They may as well cross the floor with these proposals.

Yep.

It feels like the voting public and Labour really misunderstood each other. It’s frustrating for the citizenry and a Pyrrhic victory for the Labour party.

EasternStandard · 17/11/2025 11:21

I think people were led up the garden path and became very pro Labour for no real reason.

I mean this Labour with Starmer and co specifically.

I was thinking this too.

Essentially, those who voted for Labour in July 2024 - voted for their back benches (and the unions).

The manifesto was meaningless nonsense - wholly unenforceable, even if they wanted to.

Thanks though. If I'm ever not around and don't answer, please feel free to start the next one. I struggle to keep up these days xx

I wish we just had a referendum system for things like changes to the ECHR. Pretty clear how the great British public would vote at this point. Then these Labour backbenchers would not have to contort themselves much either.

Araminta1003 · 17/11/2025 11:38

I bet most people would vote for”yes true asylum seekers in danger can take refuge temporarily”, no none of them should claim benefits long term and should go back when their countries are safe, to rebuild there etc

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 17/11/2025 11:40

Before we move threads…how dare some of you fancy the Milibands, when there’s the dreamy JRM still on the scene.

OP posts:
DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 17/11/2025 11:46

On a more serious note, I read Tice’s intervention about Reform budget ambitions for LAs as a rather desperate move. Reform is now bumping into reality. Council budgets only get improved by long-term planning and dull commitment to financial oversight.

Angry populism is hard to reconcile with real world fact.

Just looked up David Milliband wondering what he’s doing now - he’s president and CEO of the international rescue committee - a global humanitarian aid organizing - on a salary of $1.25 million a year! Not sure how I feel about an aid organization paying a CEO that much

I think Trump / Musk were right to expose the mass corruption in NGOs

A salary of over a million is a full on scandal IMO

I also won’t forget Rory Stewart complaining when DOGE skewered his wife’s freebies

I am so skeptical of all the big charities. Red Cross, NCPCC, RSPCA etc.
It charity second and their own employees / brand first,

DancingFerret · 17/11/2025 14:37

@hamstersarse In case you missed it, we're on to the next thread now (see link above).🙂

redange · 17/11/2025 14:47

I am on another thread about PIP and Surprise Surprise people's 'Envy' to those eligible for PIP in particular Motability . The usual mob who don't understand how PIP or Motabilty works or how a persons needs are assessed (granted Face to Face assessments need to fully return) The reason they have not fully returned is down to the Lazy Civil Servants who cant be bothered when a Phone Call will do rather than arrange an appointment this perhaps meaning 'some' peoples disabilities are not confirmed ..

However, the stupid suggestion on that thread that if a family income goes over what is assessed to be high enough that PIP should not be given or 'means' tested represents the ignorance of many Labour Supporters . Then they is the unbelievable hypocrisy when they openly support the 'Refugees are Welcome Here' brigade !

What really angers me is these are the ones who vote Labour and will defend the rights of illegal immigrants to the cows come home, yet will be relentless on attacks on Disabled People, because they have a better car than them.

I am also sick of Media Presenters who are supposed to be on 'our side' i.e (right learning) Nick Ferrari Julia Hartley Brewer being two who continue to pedal 'false' information. This, showing their ignorance about how disabilities presents themselves and effects on whole family units. The aim though is to seek a 'tabloid' headline for their show !

The incorrect information also leads to a narrative targeting Disabled People, as the useless 'eaters' and drains to Society . This is wholly in accurate and takes no account of the reality that there are a high number of 'High Net Worth' families with Disabled members, these families are basically keeping this country currently solvent. in particular this is relevant to those on the Autistic Spectrum usually have extremely high tax paying members within their immediate family.

Therefore I have nothing but disdain to those stupid people who believe that the Motability Car Scheme and PIP or Disability benefits are a predominate reason for the Countries Economic Woes !

I just had to vent off...

redange · 17/11/2025 14:51

Then there is the Unbelievable Hypocrisy...

DancingFerret · 17/11/2025 16:29

Well when I read the benefactors to the Guardian I gave up on them completely. Gates foundation for one.
