David Bowie.

Whole world went to shit when he died and it’s never been the same since.

There’s a song, Strange Days Are Here To Stay, on Green Day’s latest album with the lyric “ever since Bowie died it hasn’t been the same”.

Bon Scott

I agree with so many on here. Particularly George Michael, Princess Di, Michael Jackson, Peaches Geldof, Amy Winehouse, Robin Williams, Steve Irwin, Whitney Houston (and her daughter Bobbi,) Michael Moseley, Naya Rivera, Queen Elizabeth II, and Liam Payne (Liam stung bad as the younger members in my extended family knew him, as they went to school with him.)

The younger someone dies the worse it is IMO.

I sometimes think about Jade Goody and what a strange phenomenon she was. Hugely famous from Big Brother in 2002, massively public life and then death in 2009. A seven year whirlwind of fame. Here and then gone.

Helen McCrory

She was incredible in Peaky Blinders as Polly.

Such a brilliant twist on more conventional ‘matriarch’ characters. Sexy as hell, conniving, devious, heroic. Was so sad when she died suddenly.

Kassalah · 13/11/2025 20:45

Jill Dando - such a shock. And Caroline Flack.

I agree. It seemed all very sudden didn't it? Jade's was a sad death too.

For me its Sinèad O'Connor. Can't explain why but felt suprisingly bereft at her sudden passing.

I agree about Sinèad. I felt like she was teetering on the brink for such a long time but somehow managed to not die, but then it did finally happen. I think this context made it particularly poignant.

The death of Chadwick Boseman really upset me. He was so talented and died far too young.

BluntTaupePoster · 13/11/2025 20:47

Sinéad O'Connor

Kirsty McColl also died trying to save her son. Tim Brooke Taylor when there wasn't a jab for Covid. I cried about him for a few days.

MaidOfSteel · 13/11/2025 20:48

George Michael. He brought so much joy to the world. I could listen to his voice forever. Such a kind & generous man.
Natasha Richardson. So sad for her young children.

Prince/ Robin Williams/ Helen McCrory as well as their talent they all seemed vibrant characters with such charisma.

JaneyDC · 13/11/2025 20:49

Steve Irwin.

Every now and again I remember that Terry Wogan, Victoria Wood, Sean Lock and Russell Ash are no longer with us and it makes me feel a bit sad

Yes, I know what you mean!

I used to go and see Status Quo a lot, and it still pulls me up sharp that Rick Parfitt is no longer with us (d.2016)
Likewise, Sean Locke, Rick Mayall and Kirsty McColl.

crunchypeanutbutterontoast · 13/11/2025 20:51

George Michael here too. Can’t believe it’s nearly 9 years since he died.

I was going to say both of these. Any time I feel down I go and watch Sean read The Tiger Who Came For A Pint and never fail to laugh.

David Bowie.

Now. This I really don’t get. How on earth has David Bowie’s demise affected the world?

Sunshineismyfavourite · 13/11/2025 20:53

Mel Appleby from Mel & Kim. Not a huge celebrity but one of my favourite pop stars in my late teens and I was a similar age to her when she died. I was so shocked - in your early 20s you just don't think about dying. I think about her sometimes and especially when I hear one of their songs on the radio. So sad.
