Weirdly, Karen Carpenter. I cried for days on end, and I still don't know why.

Yes such a loss.

Also Elizabeth Sladen and Angharad Rees.

@Ownedbykitties - I should have said Queen Elizabeth II too. She was the Queen for all of my life, so it was a real sense of dislocation when she died.

sinead O’Connor.

I am not surprised so many said George Michael. Followed him from the start.

I heard a clip of Victoria Wood on the radio yesterday and I still had difficulty getting my head round the fact she is no longer with us. And hasn't been for such a long time.

So many of the names on this thread are so poignant. But I agree with OP.that Gary Speed's death was so unexpected and so sad. The circumstances must have been totally devastating for his poor wife.

It was devastating for his wife and I won't make light of that. I know his family very well however. She sold the house and the first Gary's mother knew of it was reading it on the front of a Sunday tabloid when she went to the corner shop.

When the Queen died, my mum was more choked up than she’d admit.
I think it reminded her of when her mum died.

The Queen was everyone’s grandmother, in a way. She’s all we ever knew, really.
