Every now and again I remember that Terry Wogan, Victoria Wood, Sean Lock and Russell Ash are no longer with us and it makes me feel a bit sad

Pebbles16 · 13/11/2025 20:13

2016 in general - the killing year, but George Michael in particular because it was Christmas day at the end of the shitty year (Alan Rickman, David Bowie, Prince, Caroline Aherne, Victoria Wood, Carrie Fisher, Terry Wogan etc). Stayed up sobbing for a long time - we had seen his final tour a few years before but never expected it to be "his final tour".

Imabitbusyatthemoment · 13/11/2025 20:14

Heath Ledger

Vitriolinsanity · 13/11/2025 20:14

George Michael. He defined my 80’s and 90’s with his music.

Also not a celebrity
but QE 2 - still not fully adjusted to Charles being King

Chandler

Michael Hutchence. I was a huge INXS fan & loved MH. I remember hearing about it as clear as day. I was watching TOTP2 early evening on a Saturday when hus picture flashed up & they said he'd died. I was in total shock. I'd met my dad for lunch that day & he'd actually heard the news & knew i was a fan but forgot to tell me. I'm quite glad he forgot as I'd have been in pieces

IvySquirrel · 13/11/2025 20:16

Victoria Wood. Still missed.

That was such a bad year.

Threads like these give me a shock as I’d forgotten everyone we’ve lost.

I always think of the people who never got to see how popular their films and music became.

George Michael and Victoria Wood

I heard a clip of Victoria Wood on the radio yesterday and I still had difficulty getting my head round the fact she is no longer with us. And hasn't been for such a long time.

So many of the names on this thread are so poignant. But I agree with OP.that Gary Speed's death was so unexpected and so sad. The circumstances must have been totally devastating for his poor wife.

SwedishEdith · 13/11/2025 20:17

Leonard Cohen. It was just after Trump was elected in 2016 and seemed so wrong that someone that prophetic could go just when we needed him most.

skippy67 · 13/11/2025 20:17

Terry Hall. I was heartbroken when he died.

George Michael and I will miss his music and showmanship forever.

I was going to say the same
It was such a shock, and it was announced on Christmas night when everything is quiet and calm

SilenceInside · 13/11/2025 20:19

Kurt Cobain and River Phoenix. Then later Heath Ledger is another that is terribly sad still.
