I remember my friend saying "Cheggers went pop" when he died. I shouldn't have laughed..

None. Some were a surprise, but ‘never got over’? I can’t imagine spending my whole
life not being able to get over a celebrity’s death.

I think I took “never got over” to mean someone you still think about and think about their death, rather than literally unable to function as a result of their death.

I don’t grieve the deaths of people I never met. To do so seems at best to be disrespectful to their actual loved ones. And at worst to be cynical attention-seeking or empty insincere virtue-signalling.

That said, it’s always saddening to see people whose talents or work you admire taken before their time. Ayrton Senna & George Michael being obvious examples.
