What makes someone a loser in life? Be honest!

Just wondering what makes someone a loser in life? Is it working a low skilled job all your life? Living at home still at 40?

what are your thoughts?

No ambition or general spark about them. Doesn't matter what they are motivated to do, but if they just plod along letting life happen to them then that's loser behaviour in my book.

PixieandMe · 11/11/2025 13:25

I don't see anything wrong with working in a low-skilled job all your life. I would say that anyone who has a negative opinion on that is a loser. Same as living at home age 40. So what?

People who brag and boast or do anything to hurt others people are losers.

FunnysInLaJardin · 11/11/2025 13:25

Nothing. I can honestly say I have never thought of anyone as a loser!

Everyone has different motivations for their path through life, none of which are inherently wrong

Ted27 · 11/11/2025 13:25

Why does there even have to be 'losers'

We all have different abilities and skills - there could be many good reasons for both the scenarios you state.
There is certainly nothing wrong with low skilled jobs. Society relies on them to function and many of them require skills that you may not even think about

Frenchfrychic · 11/11/2025 13:26

Getting the popcorn out.

whatever someone says op, someone will be in that position and take offence.

Some definitely are. People who stay at home and sponge off family. People who are unwilling to do anything to improve their situation or help themselves but complain relentlessly about how unfair things are. People who choose to make choices that hurt other people rather than an alternative option that is no less beneficial to themselves.

BarilynBordeaux · 11/11/2025 13:27

Someone without kindness in them. People who are always determined to see the worst in everything and everyone.

People who just hide away and have no motivation.

I think those who live their lives on a glass half empty basis lose the joy that could be in their lives.

Agree. We have one of these and I was about to write the same thing. Makes poor choices, sits around sponging and criticising everybody else

They do also live at home and have “unskilled” job but those things alone are not an “issue”

TheaBrandt1 · 11/11/2025 13:29

A life of low level crime and living off the state despite being able bodied and able to work. Plus then making your neighbours lives a misery through your anti social behaviour. Those two things combined to me make someone a loser.

AlpineadventuresandCowbells · 11/11/2025 13:31

For me it's around DC if you have them .you can be a company director and your DC hate you and don't see you.
That's more a looser to me ..

Or people who have access to money stability and have so many things going for them but they can't see the beauty in the every day or enjoy beautiful places

And are stressed and miserable and always negative
Again that's a pretty big looser in my book

socks1107 · 11/11/2025 13:32

no one who works, in any capacity is a loser. They work, they are doing a job and they are a functioning member of society.
those who are able to work and choose not too but cannot support themselves are losers. They lack motivation and a work ethic

Pricelessadvice · 11/11/2025 13:33

People’s lives are often heavily influenced by what they’ve been through. So what if someone still lives at home at 40. There might be a good reason why, that other people have been very lucky not to have had to deal with.
Same with working a low skilled or low paid job all your life. So what? Someone has got to do it. Anybody going out and working for a living isn’t a loser in my opinion.

But someone judging somebody else when they know nothing about them is.

Benny91 · 11/11/2025 13:34

TheBirches · 11/11/2025 13:26

Someone who lacks motivation to do something.

I don’t think it’s anything materialistic … imo it’s if they are unkind or lack empathy.

Because it can only hurt others and themselves.

Bringemout · 11/11/2025 13:36

People who inflict damage on others intentionally or through sheer laziness. I think thats loser behaviour.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 11/11/2025 13:37

Lack of ambition, no drive to do anything. A loser isn't getting anything from life. I've only known one real loser - my friend was married to him, but she left because he was dragging her down. He'd promised her the world, but he wasn't actually interested in the world.

Blarn · 11/11/2025 13:37

Living at home, low paid job - if they happy with those choices then fine. Even if they aren't particularly happy but are supported an ill parent for example, also fine. Anyone who blames everyone else for things in their life bur has never made any attempt to do anything about the things they are complaining about I never look favourably on. Loser isn't a term I use though.

And as a PP said, anyone who just lives off crime.

StuffyHuffyPuffy · 11/11/2025 13:37

I don't think about the criteria for it. But a loser will often show themselves.

Eg: Entitled and arrogant people are well the types of people I find a bit sad.

OhBling · 11/11/2025 13:38

I don't give a monkey's about the job someone does, that's not what a loser is.

A loser is someone who is unable and unwilling to make anything of their lives and who blames everyone else for it. It's the person who can't hold down a job but claims bosses/colleagues are always "out to get them". It's the person who complains and moans becuase they don't have the right relationship, but who make no effort to be a good friend, partner, sibling or child. It's the person who is endlessly unwell, but has never eaten a vegetable in their lives.

Often losers are the product of their own upgbringing so I also feel sorry for them as they weren't given the tools to make any of those things happen.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 11/11/2025 13:39

People who start goady threads

100thbillionthnamechange101 · 11/11/2025 13:39

I genuinely believe the biggest losers are the ones who go around intentionally hurting others and making people's lives difficult. How miserable they must feel inside constantly trying to steal other people's happiness

I don't think it matters how big your home is, how nice your things are or really what you have achieved in terms of work ect, I think who you are a a person is the biggest marker on how much of a loser someone is

notatinydancer · 11/11/2025 13:39

Drug addicts , people who chose not to work. Criminals.
