A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

Bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Is it just me or is there now a Labour uniform? All the men in this photo look like they've all been the the same mens outfitters and fitted with the same suit!🤣🤣

Perhaps Lammy took them all with him when he went suit shopping before DPMQs Grin

I say this because the Labour Party owes great gratitude to the Public Schools of England and private schools in general for most of their best Politicans.

Right, I thought I smelled a rat in the Rachel Millward reporting.

I know I should be doing something more sensible with my time, but I had a look.

from her own social media -

she has hosted refugees herself

She believes that they should not be put in what she is calling a "camp"

she believes they should be able to work and be housed within the community

I don't like for people to be misrepresented. Obviously, I do not share her view but it doesn't sit well with me when someone gets misrepresented.

Thank You: My writing goes astray when I am trying to look after the children at the same time as posting and not using my glasses. For the record and for Mumsnet to think about how about setting up a posting layout similar to Word from Office 365 ! . A layout that allowed editing after posting would be highly useful.

Yes I hate the editing (or lack of) facility on MN.

Starmer is in "bunker mode".

In a sign of how anxious some in No 10 have become over Starmer’s position, senior figures said they had been told that Streeting had 50 frontbenchers willing to stand down if the budget landed badly and the prime minister did not go.

No 10 has gone into full bunker mode, turning on their most loyal cabinet members for absolutely no reason. A circular firing squad won’t help the government out of the hole we’re in,” one source said.

Circular firing squad reminds me of a post ages ago on here. It always stuck with me as a way the Cabinet could see each other out.

That’s a very important correction. Thank you.

I’m still not sure I buy the reasoning against the use of the base though. But I couldn’t find a full copy of the letter so she/Wealdon may have been more explanatory about it.

by Michael Rosen
for Keir Starmer and his ‘Island of Strangers’
I lay in bed
hardly able to breathe
but there were people to sedate me,
pump air into me
calm me down when I thrashed around
hold my hand and reassure me
play me songs my family sent in
turn me over to help my lungs
shave me, wash me, feed me
check my medication
perform the tracheostomy
people on this ‘island of strangers’
from China, Jamaica, Brazil, Ireland
India, USA, Nigeria and Greece.
I sat on the edge of my bed
and four people came with
a frame and supported me
or took me to a gym
where they taught me how
to walk between parallel bars
or kick a balloon
sat me in a wheel chair
taught me how to use the exercise bike
how to walk with a stick
how to walk without a stick
people on this ‘island of strangers’
from China, Jamaica, Brazil, Ireland
India, USA, Nigeria and Greece.
If ever you’re in need as I was
may you have an island of strangers
like I had.

So wait. All of this budget. Is it just Reeves and Starmer hoping they don’t get overthrown by their own party. Only because I am really at a loss. Not only will the budget end badly, it will make them unelectable when it leads to civil unrest and the bond markets kicking off.

They can’t get welfare reform through, in fact, they want to increase it. They have destroyed productivity and the proof of that is there now. The jobs market is terrible since the last budget. Unemployment figures are going up. Yet they want more taxes on jobs and increased welfare.

They are both finished and it feels like they are trying to appease the party. RR is far from untouchable now that unemployment data is out.

That is going to cost loads. And, realistically, it was in the news (even if increasing the pension age to become equal with men was unwelcome).

EmeraldRoulette · 11/11/2025 20:56

@DenizenOfAisleOfShame if you google you'll find it quite easily. I have issues doing anything with MN so I can't post a link, sorry

It's a pretty bog standard procedure letter, saying that the home office didn't tell them anything in advance and don't appear to have planned anything in advance.

She also mentions planning regulations, but obviously is unaware that most of these situations have come about in the same way. I was walking distance of one of them in London and I am now based in Essex so obviously familiar with all the stuff that's going on here, but luckily not walking distance of anything. There's not been consultation with councils or residents in the situations that I know of. So what she is objecting to is what people up and down the country have been experiencing for more than 10 years.

"planning" was the last challenge made in the Epping case today. They are out marching in the streets again, although I suspect most people knew they would not win the case on a technicality. Basically all planning regulations go out the window when the government want what they want.

I do genuinely wonder if RM is one of these people who thinks we are all racist if we raise concerns and does not give credence to any of those concerns and thinks that published figures are lies or something. I don't know.

maybe like that guy on YouTube who is posting videos admitting that's basically what he thought until it happened in his area.

but I think she has been misrepresented. Lord knows we see that happen all the time with everybody!

Credit to somebody who can actually have the conversation and say "yes I will have one in my home". I met a solicitor who did that. Fair play. I know she had a woman stay with her though.

"Quite clearly, accommodating 600 men on one site, with no right to work, brings significant risks." What specific risks do we think that Cllr Rachel Millward, Deputy Leader of the Green Party, had in mind when she wrote this about asylum seekers?

Yes I think we’re out of the picture, the electorate that is. This is two politicians not wanting to be ousted.

@Rexinasaurus I don't think we read the same letter

I've probably spent way too much time involved in council consultations 😂

if you look at her interviews on her own social media, she's actually advocating for the next step along in terms of what I fear.

This is a cracking letter! I might be missing something as am tired, but she makes some fair points.

Earlier abstract position noted. It may be hypocritical but the reality of the barracks is this.
