A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

The endless articles on what Labour are thinking of doing are so stressful…if they do a range of things that all hit us, it will be a miserable Christmas indeed!

I feel there should be some sort of right of appeal, if a tax change steals more than x percent of your ‘surplus’ income. At the moment, there’s no limit if you get hit by stacking measures and can no longer afford your commitments.

@NoWordForFluffy Happy birthday! Hope you have lots of cake and wine (definitely wine.😙)

Well our secondary has testing at every term in every year. I'm not a teacher so I don't know if that reflects the norm. The children here who struggle with reading are identified get additional help from the start.

I'm not sure about the GCSE exam times? Ds2 did his this summer and there weren't any changes from previous years at that point. I don't know what's coming down the pipeline with regards to that.

Edited

My kids' school seems to have a fair amount of testing. Their homework consists of revision all through the year.

They also ensure those children below the necessary standard for maths / English have extra lessons until they've caught up.

Okeydokey. There's obviously a difference of experiences here. I don't have children at school anymore, so I admit I'm speaking anecdotally, but this area seems to have some pretty poor results. Maybe I need to keep out of the education convo. 😁

I expect I may have created my own bubble. We moved to an area to be in the radius of good schools and my kids are academically bright. I think the switch to Gove's curriculum has really suited them. I know, I'm an anomaly apparently.

Bit weird. Unnecessary no? Don’t like the guy but this is a bit tribal!

Not really when you consider the burning of an effigy every Nov 5th is a 300 year old tradition. Originally, it was the Catholic Guy Fawkes who was ritually burned every year, all Edenbridge seem to have done is bring the effigy up to date. I like it!😂

That’s why I’ve gone cold turkey..

I don't recall which delusional thread I was reading recently, but somebody said that loads of people think that Starmer is great and doing a good job.

The thread filled (or I lost it) before I could query this by asking why football fans have a popular, non-complimentary, chant about him. It also makes no sense with the effigy, if he's actually liked / popular.

I wonder if that Labour fan was just very wrong indeed?! 🤷‍♀️

When it’s an anonymous effigy these days but a person, who everyone’s going after? Seems a bit uncivilised. I suppose it’s pagan. God knows what they’ll do in Lewes.

Rivalled · 05/11/2025 14:20

Well he and reeves have the worst approvals since records began so…that’s about as objective as you can get with this, that they’re doing a bad job.

We’ve been well catered for so far. I feel I’ve been lucky. I am concerned about Labour’s changes if it means dumbing down, although I haven’t followed it closely. Also the first two were more academic so I’m really pleased they’re through or nearly done.

Upstartled · 05/11/2025 14:20

I think the remaining 13% who still actually like him, just really, really like him and ignore the opinion of others.

They’re on benefits / union members/ civil service. I’m surprised it’s not a higher percentage

Yes, I can only cross my fingers and hope Labour don't screw things up for my youngest.

Really still? That takes some filtering.

Re Mamdani - controversial on this thread perhaps, but I’m of the opinion in general that if it pisses Trump off it’s good in my eyes!

<awaits ceremonial tarring and feathering>

Isn't it fantastic? The smelly old wrinkled orange can get in the bin - obviously the green bin though that's an extra tax on council tax.

I need some help folks. Carpets. Do I go for a twist pile wool in light beige or a berber loop pile in light beige/mix.

Just so you know, I have been invited by Duncin to contribute to your thread via PM. I'm sure she can confirm that for you if necessary. I politely declined.

I have also been complimented via PM by numerous posters on the Labour supporters thread for my behaviour on here, and for showing courtesy to the posters on the other thread.

You and others are welcome to join us to chat whenever you like, but last night you were extremely rude and offensive when there was absolutely no need. Even one of your own recognised that you were out of order.

News to me. Thanks for the update.

If you go mid-way down the polling shows only 13% of people are happy with Starmer.

Youre Going To Be Popular Kristin Chenoweth GIF by NBC

IIRC 25% of those eligible to vote actually voted for Labour (about 35% of those who voted). So he's lost half of those who actually did vote for him. Soooooooooo popular! 😬🤣

NOOOOOO not Berber. Spent a fortune on the sitting room, hall stairs and landing. It grabbed and held onto every molecule of dirt.

Whereas the twist with kids and dogs came up smiling. I do use a carpet cleaner twice a year. It's been down eight years. Still good.

No, it's worse than that. This is asking everyone if they are satisfied with him as a PM. It includes people who are satisfied with him but would prefer to vote for another party, say a libdemmer who might be quite happy with Starmer but would prefer a PM who would swoop into pmqs on a parachute.
