A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I can only speak from my own children's experience of state school but they are all flying and I don't see anything that looks like dumbing down. At least not yet.

My youngest only just finished primary and there was a lot of testing throughout. I don't think there was any doubt, among the teachers or the kids, of who was doing well and who was struggling.

Well that's a relief. I was referring to Phillipsons idea of reducing gcse exam time and introducing testing in year 8. I was surprised that it wasn't already going on, or is it?

Re Mamdani - controversial on this thread perhaps, but I’m of the opinion in general that if it pisses Trump off it’s good in my eyes!

Thank you for the new thread. Another day, another set of disaster-laden predictions / necessities in relation to balancing the books.

I'm sick of waiting for this bloody budget. Just rip the plaster off already.

Just so you know, I have been invited by Duncin to contribute to your thread via PM. I'm sure she can confirm that for you if necessary. I politely declined.

I have also been complimented via PM by numerous posters on the Labour supporters thread for my behaviour on here, and for showing courtesy to the posters on the other thread.

You and others are welcome to join us to chat whenever you like, but last night you were extremely rude and offensive when there was absolutely no need. Even one of your own recognised that you were out of order.

She was fucking rude to / about me last night. I think it would be better if she stayed away, to be honest.

Going back to the dumbing down of education; I've often wondered how it is that so many children have such an apalling education. As a child, who went through the state system, we had weekly tests as part of our routine schoolwork at primary. Does this not happen anymore? and if it does, is anything done with the children who are struggling? Or is that too much to ask these days, you know, asking teachers to do their jobs and erm teach?

Uhm. It’s not the teachers fault. Most teachers are bloody brilliant. It’s the lack of resources, lack of funding, too many kids per class, too varied abilities, special needs being in same class and not getting what they need whilst others don’t either, etc etc etc. then of course there’s the fckwit / feckless parents in many cases. But we’re not allowed to blame them.

Im not a teacher but these issues are prevalent, in many schools it seems.

We also don’t need to be testing kids in primary schools via SATS. What a waste of time.

An effigy of Sir Keir Starmer will be burnt at a bonfire event on Saturday after the public chose him ahead of Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and Andrew Tate.
The 11-metre figure of the Prime Minister will follow in the footsteps of Saddam Hussain and Harvey Weinstein, who also had effigies of them set alight in Edenbridge, Kent.

The effigy of Sir Keir depicts him with a badge saying “Starmer the farmer harmer” and with his left foot on a gas heater in reference to the Government’s tractor tax and cuts to winter fuel payments.

The organisers of the annual Edenbridge bonfire said the Prime Minister would be burnt after a public vote saw him chosen ahead of the former Duke of York, Ticketmaster and Angela Rayner, the ousted deputy prime minister.

Bit weird. Unnecessary no? Don’t like the guy but this is a bit tribal!

I suspect we have a variety of views on Trump on this thread! No point falling out over it.

Och we've enough home grown worries just now. Starmer has pissed off abroad after being AWOL for the last week. Gutless wonder 🙄

Sorry @upseedaisee youre probably saying the gvt should let them get on with it and stop it with twattish ideas. I agree xx

Hi, @Chimaera101!

DancingFerret · 05/11/2025 14:00

This is a long read and more about the state of the monarchy than anything else, but when you scroll down there is a very good potted history of the Labour Party, which also sets out in simple terms what KS and his conspirators are attempting to do to this country and, by extension, us. Sobering (and frightening) stuff.

The 'Destabilisation Strategy' ~ A Weak Monarchy And An Anti-Monarchist Government

The superb ‘Slow Horses’ aired its season finale this week where the destabilisation theory ended up becoming a reality, but that’s television isn’t it or is it?

Well our secondary has testing at every term in every year. I'm not a teacher so I don't know if that reflects the norm. The children here who struggle with reading are identified get additional help from the start.

I'm not sure about the GCSE exam times? Ds2 did his this summer and there weren't any changes from previous years at that point. I don't know what's coming down the pipeline with regards to that.

Okeydokey. There's obviously a difference of experiences here. I don't have children at school anymore, so I admit I'm speaking anecdotally, but this area seems to have some pretty poor results. Maybe I need to keep out of the education convo. 😁

That's good news; I hope your recovery is going well.

(Best to get that lunch in before the Budget because eating in general could become unaffordable after the Budget.)

Oh without doubt, the schools are in a bad way! I was only saying it’s not down to individual teachers. It’s the system ( or lack of these days) that is messing it up.

Thats why we sent ours private. No decent school for miles. And miles.

C-section plasters get ripped off after 6 hours. Which seems unnecessarily brutal! 😩
