Confirmed by police about half an hour ago that the 35 year old arrested has been released without charge.

Why has it taken almost 24 hours to establish he wasn't involved? Let's hope he hasn't been held all this time.

I hope he gets support as he must have been right there, seen horrendous things and then blamed for it doesn't bare thinking about what he has been through. Maybe he was even a innocent friend.

To be fair I'd not be someone to look and take mental notes I'd be legging it. I am so unobservant. But there must be cctv on the train.

He might have been released an hour later. We don’t know. I’m a brown haired medium build white woman in my 50s. If a crime was committed by a brown haired medium build white women in her 50s and I was there, I wouldn’t have a problem with being arrested. It would be inconvenient but I would understand the rationale behind it.

I think you miss my point
I am thanking Fuck I and my son are white as we are less likely to be arrested or detained for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Plus I have been reading some vile posts by people on here today that make me feel for anyone not white in this country at the moment.

Edited

And you’ve missed her point

Bloody Hell

But they had tasered the attacker.

We don't know the exact circumstances.

The fact that the police are routinely and horribly racist makes their job more difficult where there is a good reason to detain or search a non-white person. If they thought there was any chance at all he was involved in the attack, it would have been insane not to arrest him. Just imagine he jumped on a train a few hours later and did the same thing.

Horrendous. Absolutely horrendous. Arrested for the colour of his skin

I mean if the description was a black man in his 30s they aren't exactly going to arrest a Scandinavian are they..

thank goodness he wasn't named.

An awful and horrific job, the police were doing their job questioning those who seemed to be involved.

Pigeonstreeet · 02/11/2025 19:04

The victims and families of those stabbed. My sympathy is with them. That’s it.

Why would he have been released an hour later when the new conference was at 11 am today.

Dollymylove · 02/11/2025 19:04

Hoppinggreen · 02/11/2025 18:16

Exactly
I wonder why this man was arrested rather than any other innocent bystander?????
This country- thank Fuck I am white with a white son or I would be terrified

He matched the description given to the police. If the description was 2 white men then white men would be arrested. In all.the confusion of several people being seriously injured, the police didn't have time to stand scratching their heads, they followed the intelligence.
The man was very quickly exonerated from any involvement and no names would actually be published until charges were brought

BerryTwister · 02/11/2025 19:05

WeCouldBeNiceToEachOther · 02/11/2025 18:59

But they had tasered the attacker.

Presumably they had tasered someone they thought was the attacker, but didn’t know for sure if he was the only one. What if they tasered the wrong person, and the true perpetrator got away?

[Oh! My comment refers to the deleted post above. I must have posted as the deletion happened]

Tempted to report this but better for people to see your awful views.

Randomesttnought · 02/11/2025 19:05

It’s no surprise this is happening tbh. I reckon we have many more of these to come due to lockdown and lack of MH service during Covid.

dapsnotplimsolls · 02/11/2025 19:05

Well, this makes a lot more sense. Farage must be fuming.

CoralPombear · 02/11/2025 19:05

shesaysshestiredoflifeshemustbetiredofsomething · 02/11/2025 18:57

I don't see that the police did anything wrong here - they arrested someone matching the description of the attacker, didn't release his name, and let him go when they had ascertained that he had nothing to do with it.

100%. He was suspected of a crime and this has now been investigated and he has been proven not to be involved so has been released. No questions to answer. I’d rather them err on the side of caution than let potentially very dangerous people go free in case they are offended by being arrested. The safety of the public is more important.

Would I be thrilled if it happened to me or my family member, probably not. But given the seriousness of the event, I’m pretty sure I’d understand.

The emergency services responded heroically in a very short space of time. I for one won’t be pulling them apart online because I wasn’t there to judge.

dynamiccactus · 02/11/2025 19:06

TheFairyCaravan · 02/11/2025 18:52

It wasn’t a terror attack.

Do you not think that maybe, just fucking maybe, the police and authorities might have a bit more information than you?

Why do we make a distinction about "terror" attacks? If somebody goes on a murderous spree, that's terror, regardless of any cause they may feel they have.

EleanorReally · 02/11/2025 19:07

such a terrify ordeal for those involved, particularly near to halloween as some thought it was initially halloween

Eta: and are now doing it on this very thread.

I haven’t seen any other threads or if I did I didn’t feel urge to comment. Sorry about that.

Personally I’d rather be wrongly arrested (and released) than stabbed on a train.

Haven’t you heard? Seems we’re still sick of experts. Kev down the pub is clearly far more on top of the situation than, you know, actual professionals.

Why do we make a distinction about "terror" attacks? If somebody goes on a murderous spree, that's terror, regardless of any cause they may feel they have.

Because terrorism is a very specific crime that needs to be policed in a very specific way.

Stop it
The British transport police, police, ambulance, train company seem to have managed this awful situation impeccably. It is NOT racist to arrest someone who fits the description of the attacker.
Enough now.

I agree with this.

whilst it would be scary & awful to be arrested for something you haven't done. Arresting someone who fits the description is good policing, not bad

if the description was white, short, apple shaped middle aged woman & I was arrested, it would be upsetting, but understandable. It's no different when he fit the description.
