Confirmed by police about half an hour ago that the 35 year old arrested has been released without charge.

This is why here was a delay in reporting - not a conspiracy cover-up just a delay to get the facts straight. Only one assailant and many of the reportedly critically injured have been released from hospital thankfully. So not a mass scale terror event but awful for the injured and the witnesses nonetheless. It must've been terrifying.

Sirzy · 02/11/2025 18:20

This does highlight the reason that names aren’t released before charges are pressed. This is going to be difficult enough for him to deal with without having braying crowds after his blood!

TheSpottedZebra · 02/11/2025 18:21

Sirzy · 02/11/2025 18:18

That was my first thought too. If that is the case how awful for that Man to not only have witnessed everything as it happened but then to be accused of being involved seemingly on the colour of his skin.

It's awful isn't it. Poor man.
In custody overnight just for neing a black guy on a train.

saraclara · 02/11/2025 18:22

Puppylucky · 02/11/2025 18:11

It seems more likely that the second guy was swept up in the arrest as the other black man at the scene. This is what we have come to.

Exactly what I was about to say.

TheSpottedZebra · 02/11/2025 18:22

(being)

SiobahnRoy · 02/11/2025 18:22

This is why the ridiculous speculation and sharing of rumours presented as facts is so dangerous.

Hotflushesandchilblains · 02/11/2025 18:22

Pepperedpickles · 02/11/2025 18:13

I suspect this too. We need to look at why so many - particularly black men - are being failed by the mental health system. Are they less likely to seek help in the first place? Lack of family support? Mental health services just shit in general (my dh had bipolar and severe depression so can understand a little of this). What is going on?

BAME communities have a much lower take up of MH services, for reasons which seem to be complex - its not just access or internalized racism, for example, but there are cultural considerations in addition and yes, help seeking behaviour is significantly different in BAME communities. As for MH services being shit, they are on their knees - there are not enough staff, they have been starved of funds and staff are overworked to the point of burn out. As funding has been cut, the 'recovery model' has been pushed, which means more people being refused services who in the past would have had lifelong support.

However, it also irks me somewhat that people immediately jump to it being MH issues that cause this. People with MH issues are much more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators. Sometimes people are just bad.

I hope the many posters who came on here spouting their vile racist views will have the decency to apologise?

Nope, thought not.

Too busy name-changing, I suspect.

Thank god the 35yr olds name wasn't released to the media, as it turned out after all he had nothing to do with it

But surely he must have done, he’s black?

(Heavy sarcasm intended, btw, for those unable to detect it for themselves.)

MarbleHunt · 02/11/2025 18:26

Puppylucky · 02/11/2025 18:11

It seems more likely that the second guy was swept up in the arrest as the other black man at the scene. This is what we have come to.

Or that he way trying to stop the perpetrator so was seen to be involved in fighting/ got covered in blood and people then assumed both of them were involved. I assume most people were in a state of panic.

It was quite unseemly the police announcing the ethnicity of those arrested in their press conference today, after pressure from the public to start doing so, as if that could tell us anything about the motives.

Bladderpool · 02/11/2025 18:26

irogolem · 02/11/2025 18:19

How have you come to that conclusion?

More importantly how have you not?

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 02/11/2025 18:26

WeCouldBeNiceToEachOther · 02/11/2025 18:06

Seems more and more likely that it was just a horrendous case of someone being failed by the mental health system.

Oh no, that can't be right. So many posters KNEW that it wasn't a MH issue and was DEFINITELY down to ideology and/or migration.

Still I'm sure they'll be along to admit their errors any minte now...

There are rather a lot of people on here criticising others for jumping to conclusions only to do exactly that themselves. We don’t know for sure that he’s a mentally ill man who has been let down by the system. We don’t know for definite that he isn’t a terrorist. We don’t know that he is. It could be a little of both. He could be mentally ill and still capable of knowing what he was doing. There could be other possible reasons too e.g a brawl that started and spread. Who knows? We’ll just have to wait and see but people are more interested in scolding and feeling superior to each other than the victims. Regardless of the reason they’ve all suffered a truly horrendous ordeal even if they weren’t wounded. The focus should really be on them for now. It’s too early to know much more for definite.

Did it not occur to you that the other explanation might be that the man has mental health issues?

Oh, come off it. Is the only reason for feeling suicidal the belief that you'll get a good deal in heaven?

HRTQueen · 02/11/2025 18:28

Well the police have some questions to answer now

Another inquiry and another paper published

Yes. And I don’t mean to “leap” to mental health but just trying to understand what may be happening here. It’s a horrible situation and just reminds me of the poor girl on the train in the USA recently and also the Nottingham stabbings in 2023.

Simonjt · 02/11/2025 18:28

Imagine witnessing that and then being arrested for it, the poor sod will have been terrified that he was going to be charged for it as well.

you can’t let it go can you? You like a lot of posters got it wrong just admit it. This is how we learn.

I'm confused, I thought they arrested 2 men?

Yes and then released one without charge and no further action.

Some of the baying mob on the other threads would probably have burnt his house down by now if they'd named him.
