Confirmed by police about half an hour ago that the 35 year old arrested has been released without charge.

It’s sad your sympathy has limits based on race.

Why would you think that?
Where have I said anything that would suggest such a thing?

margegunderson · 02/11/2025 18:54

The attitudes on that thread last night were appalling. It was an online lynch mob baying for names instantly and whining that Starmer was censoring the truth. I can’t remember feeling as depressed about the way we’re going. What has happened to us?

Passthebiscuit12 · 02/11/2025 18:54

Glitch8 · 02/11/2025 18:52

Come on, he was not arrested for being black. He was likely arrested because he was matching the description. The police however should have realised their mistake much sooner. I'm very glad his name had not been released

This makes little sense though “ he matched the description “ but surely once they tasered the guy with the knife that would have been easily distinguished before 11 am this morning !

HereAreYourOptions · 02/11/2025 18:55

The irony of some people having a go at others for jumping to conclusions then wildly jumping to conclusions themselves will no doubt be lost on most of them.

Cleikumstovies · 02/11/2025 18:55

Well it was not an islamofascist. Whew, that'll stick to Reform

Mental health issues, free for all to attack those with any mh issues - no supporters for them - shame.

Uricon2 · 02/11/2025 18:56

When they've finished ranting on about 'illegals', it boils down to one thing, that some people view those with a skin that isn't milky white with suspicion and disrespect, even if the grandparents of those people fought on our side in the Wars, even if they and their parents were born here and are as British as anyone can be.

TheFairyCaravan · 02/11/2025 18:56

The comments about British born people not really bring British usually makes me avoid threads like this because it applies to me. 😔

I’m so sorry @Snorlaxo . These comments are totally out of order. They apply to my nieces and nephews and their children, as well as their dad, and their children. They were all born in the same hospital as me. They are as British as me, as are you. Please don’t be upset 💐

ChocolateBoxCottage · 02/11/2025 18:57

Why has it taken almost 24 hours to establish he wasn't involved? Let's hope he hasn't been held all this time.

I hope he gets support as he must have been right there, seen horrendous things and then blamed for it doesn't bare thinking about what he has been through. Maybe he was even a innocent friend.

To be fair I'd not be someone to look and take mental notes I'd be legging it. I am so unobservant. But there must be cctv on the train.

shesaysshestiredoflifeshemustbetiredofsomething · 02/11/2025 18:57

I don't see that the police did anything wrong here - they arrested someone matching the description of the attacker, didn't release his name, and let him go when they had ascertained that he had nothing to do with it.

There is a difference between haven’t theories from reading things and staying it as fact. Earlier in another thread when someone said it was 100 percent terrorism because it was 2 men I highlighted the fact that so far every eye witness has only stated 1 ! So that there could be other circumstances - couldn’t bring the operative word rather than saying it’s 100 percent this !

“Make me feel for anyone not white”

Not
“make me feel for anyone personally affected by this”

BerryTwister · 02/11/2025 18:58

Andregroup · 02/11/2025 18:29

Exactly. Possibly wearing similar clothing. Had the attacker been a white man in his 30s with say a bald head and a brown jacket, and a similar looking man had been nearby too, then I'm sure he'd have been arrested too. The good thing about arresting people is that the arrest is checked for validity and an innocent person released. I'd hardly have expected them to have arrested a white woman in her 70s given the description they were given.

I agree.
If this man fitted the description of the attacker, then surely everyone can agree he should have been arrested? Or are you all saying that no black men should have been arrested because it’s racist to do so? If the attacker had been described as a white teenage girl then yes, it would have been outrageous to arrest a black 35 year old man. But I doubt that’s what happened.

Not at all. We don't know what the motive was at the moment, though it's fair to say there isn't strong evidence suggest it was a terror attack.

I don't really see people jumping to the conclusion that it wasn't terror. I did see two whole threads fill up with islamophobic nonsense within a few hours, based on nothing more than a(n islamophobic) presumption.

HRTQueen · 02/11/2025 18:58

BIossomtoes · 02/11/2025 18:39

Why would it be “looked into”? There’s nothing to investigate.

You can not work out why just one other person was arrested not charged and released out of all the other people on the train

who happens to be of Caribbean descent

of course this shall be looked into why was he arrested

Hotflushesandchilblains · 02/11/2025 18:59

I know in my training many years ago that black people were diagnosed with schizophrenia at a much higher rate. At that time it was proposed that it was cultural or cannabis related but also displacement from country of origin (Windrush generation), poverty and poor social conditions.

Cannabis use can open up an underlying vulnerability which may not otherwise develop into a disorder - especially as it is getting stronger and is often sprayed or cut with other psychoactive substances. It is hard to know if those people where this is a factor would have developed schizophrenia anyway.

However, when I worked in the USA, one thing we were always advised is that you cannot take paranoia in black men to be necessarily indicative of MH. Given the way they are often viewed, it is often based on experience and may be justified. I would say our wards were pretty evenly mixed, to be honest.

I do find it interesting that they released he was British born with Caribbean descent but not the other who was just British born.

No one has attacked people with mental health issues.

You've copied and pasted that directly from Twitter and decided to share your racist musings with us.

MN has clearly been infiltrated by the far right and bot farm accounts and it's so obvious when you all just copy what's already been shared word for word on social media.

Yes the eye witness said that the knife man has got of the train with the knife they knew who has the knife. How the other suspect came about who knows.

Hereforthecommentz · 02/11/2025 19:01

You don't know anything. He could have looked like the suspect. He could have been acting suspiciously. You really know absolutely nothing at this point and are race baiting. They are saying it's not terror related but of course they would, they don't want riots. The old mental health card is constantly peddled out when these tragedies occur. I am waiting for more information as should anyone before making assumptions.
