Confirmed by police about half an hour ago that the 35 year old arrested has been released without charge.

Agree

And hope to hear soon that he is recovering well and no longer in a life-threatening condition

Critical but stable was the last report - I don’t know whether that is still life-threatening.

Agree with everyone about the George Cross.

Thank you for that - it does sound like an improvement doesn't it

I’d like to see the guard awarded a George Cross - the highest award available for civilian bravery. His courage is amazing, what an incredible man.

Absolutely. My kids could have been on that train. Friends of mine were in the train behind and had extremely distraught and scared children stuck in a carriage for hours googling what was going on.

This isn’t some abstract story.! Every time these stories happen they deeply affect and change the community they happen in. All this navel gazing is for afterwards. Right now the focus should be on investigating and charging the person responsible and supporting the victims and families of the victims of this absolute tragedy.

No. The large number of victims and the indiscriminate and public nature of the attack “has the hallmarks” of a terror attack.

Like this white man Jake Hill who stabbed 5 people in Cornwall?

Agree, someone I was at university with was killed on 7/7, of course my first thought was people being stabbed randomly on a moving train was a terrorist attack.

There is nothing racist at all about that!

I thought the same having been on a train on 7/7, and very close to the Fishmonger stabbing attacks. Obviously terrorism comes to mind when you hear two men.

GoFundMe etc with an unknown / unnamed beneficiary are, rightly, seen as incredibly sketchy.

I also hope there will be one set up in due course. But it’s best done by someone closer to an individual.

Still very much life-threatening, sadly. But at least he’s still stable.

Man named as Anthony Williams, 32, of Langford Road, Peterborough, is charged with ten counts of attempted murder, one count of ABH (Actual Bodily Harm), and one count of possession of bladed article in connection to the incident at Huntingdon.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 03/11/2025 11:11

Just reading the national press and it says this man is also suspected of slashing someone’s face earlier in the day. I assume he left the scene and couldn’t be found. There’s also CCTV footage of him circulating: sipping a liquid out of small bottles in Peterborough where he pulls out a large knife and threatens people in a shop/restaurant.

I don’t know about mental health but it does sound as though he was already known to the police as being someone who carried a dangerous weapon and used it. Why on earth was he just wandering about? There seems to be an inability to actively deal with violent crime. I know when Labour came in they let a lot of people out of jail early to make room for some new criminals. Maybe we need to get more innovative about how we deal with violent criminals and get them off the street.

No.

Of course you won’t. That would take a degree of self-reflection and acknowledgement that maybe you’ve said your piece, we’ve all heard it, and now it’s time for a little more respect for those suffering right now.

I’d donate to it should someone who knows him and would actually be able to give him the money set one up.

Do you not think it would be suspicious for someone who doesn’t even know the name of someone to collect huge sums of money and say they’re going to give it to them?

or are you just trying to pick a fight “WeCouldBeNiceToEachOther”?

It’s OP’s thread, how rude to tell her to shut up.

Leave the thread if you have nothing to add.

Yes. Like that. It would be perfectly reasonable for people to hear about a man stabbing people indiscriminately in a nightclub and to think it could be terror related.

Whats your point? Mass stabbings are often but not always terror related, and white people can also commit terror offences.

Many of the posters in the thread from yesterday were pushing the idea that the attack was most likely to be football violence from travelling Newcastle United fans.

That was never a likely scenario, but today this thread is full of anger and derision at people who (reasonably) suspected terrorism yesterday, but no mention of the far wilder speculation against football fans.

One poster speculated about football fans and was quite widely derided for doing so.
