Confirmed by police about half an hour ago that the 35 year old arrested has been released without charge.

Horrendous. Absolutely horrendous. Arrested for the colour of his skin

Nope, he was arrested "on suspicion" because he matched the initial description of the perpetrator. He would then have been de-arrested once it became clear that he was not involved in the crime.

I for one would rather the police did that than have them be too afraid of a backlash to initially arrest a black man and then release him without charge. The same goes for a white man.

AS we all now know from the child rape scandals around the UK, pussy-footing around like that for PC reasons is not beneficial to overall public safety.

Absolutely this.
What the fuck is the matter with people that they can’t understand this, in the middle of all the chaos urgent decisions have to be made.

Seems more and more likely that it was just a horrendous case of someone being failed by the mental health system.

Valdo Calocane case in Nottingham comes to mind. But he refused his meds due to needle phobia. We need more secure units, not care in the community imo.

2021x · 03/11/2025 02:33

Brit in NZ, and I can confirm that the world is a bit of a shit show at the moment. Everyone is blaming everyone else for the rising cost of (insert here) or the fact that they can't get an appointment, or because of rise of violence. Its the same here and the same in Australia.

We are all reeling from the job/housing/health insecurity that started with the pandemic and has increased through the resurgence of wars/invasions etc hence the rise of the right.

From what I can see from the reports, this was a horrific attack by a desperate man. You can be desparate in any race, and it makes sense that if there was another tall black man then he could have been confused. If the person was a woman, or a short black man they probably wouldn't have been arrested. It is worthy to note that these violent crime does have a pattern, and that is they are committed overwhelming by men. So for all people who want are linking race to violent crime should be linking sex to it instead, imagine the uproar if we said that all men had to be curfewed by 7pm because a few of them couldn't be trusted.

This, is as much surmising as any other post regarding the details of this attack by anyone else on any of these threads. You have no idea what the scene looked like on the arrival of POs. You cannot possibly declare with such certainty that it was the colour of his skin that determined his arrest.

So many posts assuming MH issues, failed by the system etc. Can I ask who so many posters are looking to blame the system rather than the decisions the alleged perp took?

And we should not take the not terrorism thing as gospel either. The Southport murderer was immediately reported as radicalised, then this was exsponged and it wasn't until he got to trial that it was clear he was radicalised. Since then we've learned that he and his brother were created as such by their parents who then fled back home having spent years here under asylum, allegedly claiming benefits.

Stop making things up and wait to find out.

Radicalised into what ?

I recall he was obsessed with extreme violence. That's what was said in his trial.

We know that men commit 90%+ of murders. And we talk a lot about that (although we should do more—I think murderers should be locked away for life, at minimum).

But when we say (in America) that 55% of murders are committed by black people, despite being only 13% of the population, suddenly you don’t want to talk about it anymore.

Why is that?

OnlyOnAFriday · 03/11/2025 06:07

I just read that the person incorrectly arrested was also tasered. While shouting to the police that it wasn’t him.

Yes, it came to my mind too. I don’t know what the answer is because the mental health system has just been completely failed.

It’s okay for the police in these circumstances to do whatever they can to secure the location.

I am sure the person involved will understand it was an extreme emergency. Many lives have been saved, due to the speed of response.

If I was caught up in something like this I would understand if I had the same profile as the perpetrator who was busy trying to kill people!!

He will be fine, that is why tasers are so effective (rather than using firearms)

Nestingbirds · 03/11/2025 06:25

Unlike some of victims I might add!

Agree.Easternstandard is one of the more measured and rational posters on these subjects, and definitely does not deserve to be labelled as a racist. Although tbh, that label has pretty much lost its meaning these days.

No, I won’t apologise for calling out the blatant and disgusting racism we saw on Friday night and all throughout yesterday. If you find that to be an upsetting allegation, I would look closer at what was said.

You haven’t quoted any of the racism that you’ve accused EasternStandard of writing. You should apologise for that.

You provided no evidence of EasternStandard being racist. You seem to have a personal vendetta against her. How is that in any way acceptable?

I cannot quote posts from a previous thread. There were plenty. How is it acceptable for posters to be blatantly racist and then not apologise when it becomes clear they got it wrong?

Copy and paste.

How would you want people to react if I accused you of racism on another thread but then refused to give any examples?

EasternStandard wasn’t racist on any other thread that I saw. And of course you can quote posts from previous threads - you go onto them and copy and past or produce a screen shot and then add as an attachment to your post in this thread.

You could WeCouldBeNice, you could if they really were that bad, you would remember every word.

If you want a TAAT about the hate filled racists plaguing Mumsnet why don't you start another one?

More fun to overrun every single chat about absolutely every fucking subject with shouts of racism?

Don't you understand that the victims are 1,000,000 more times important than this timewasting agenda of yours, yet not one word can you spend for them.
